I've never been tempted to build this kit until now. Looks beautiful. Super clean. That's a lot of real estate to polish.

'60 Chrysler Saratoga (photo is DeSoto but same look & colors) in early 1980's for $2,000, which was every penny of what I had at the time. Fresh out of storage, hadn't been run in years but otherwise in fabulous, lightly used condition. Would've been my first car but knew I didn't have the money to get in good running order. Price seemed a little steep at the time but it was within reach and it's my dream car. I often think of it but my choice not to buy at that time was correct.

I think we all have cars like that we think about. The reason you or I don't have them is because our better judgement prevailed at the time; to pricey, too much work, not the right time, etc., etc. but we sure wish we could have. If the Dart was such a sure thing, even now, you wouldn't be asking us. Let 'em go.

Because... A. Anytime someone feels bad, they've been victimized and someone else is to blame. B. Lack of coping skills. C. Loss of community. The penalties for risking the chance of making someone feel bad outweigh the benefits of making someone feel good, until the simplest gestures of kindness are met with suspicion and contempt. A bit cynical perhaps, but truth none the less.

The episode was great fun and so is your model. Excellent work, clean build and an uncommon subject.

I completely understand. However, I don't think I would've been afraid to just briefly talk about the kits, some sound building advice and stoke his interest, then move along to give him time to look some more. If you linger, getting away from you may have more value to him than continuing to mull over kits.

Yes. Not exactly your case with the ads, but I often can't 'back-button' to the previous page. However it seems to only be on my aging home Mac laptop. Not an issue at work or GF's computer.

Same here small world indeed... My brother is a marketing rep for a defense contractor in Taiwan. I visited him in Taipei once and during my visit he threw a party for some military brass. Earlier that day I bought a model of a 1/48 F-5 fighter from a general market. Kit was Asian made, I couldn't read the writing but it looked like a re-pop of the Monogram kit. It came with decals of the Taiwanese aggressor squadron. That night, at the party, by brother introduced me to a ranking Taiwanese Air Force Colonel. Turns out he was the commander of the Taiwanese aggressor squadron. I ran and got the model and asked him if that was his plane on the box top. He said yes, he'd flown that plane. I was thrilled and asked him to autograph the instruction sheet, which he did gladly. At the end of my Asian visit, he dropped by my brother's home once again, and presented me with an executive gift of a medallion sized pewter key fob featuring the logo of the aggressor squadron. He said it was a return of honor to me for honoring him with my interest and autograph request the night of the party. How cool is that? Of course, it's not lost on me that doing this in the presence of my big shot brother didn't hurt his business/political relationship any either, but they were friends and wouldn't have had to.

I've always liked these and you did a bang-up job. Nicely thought out and executed. I built the Drag Hag as a kid. On this model though, I could never make the connection the coffin had with the rest of the theme. Job stress driving him to the grave I guess, but it seemed like kind of a stretch. Like that part of the joke needs to be explained.

Great save Nick. Issues, yes. But a shame it would have gone to the crusher otherwise.

Wagon conversions are always worth the effort in my book and your splices really well done. There were '72 GTO wagons but I think there's too much Chevelle wagon and too little Pontiac behind the front clip here. But liberties are allowed. Nice work overall.

Actually Carl, when I'm faced with that question, I've found that it means I'm not ready to get into another project yet. Maybe step away for a bit, then let the renewed urge to build point you in the right direction. I think you're just not inspired at the moment.

Sad how they were stored, yet compared to what cars go for on other internet auctions, getting ones with no miles and no dings or tears would still be appealing and could be a light restoration. Granted, I wouldn't bid "sight unseen" though. And not all of them were new.

Whoa, I don't know what half of that stuff is but it looks almost alien. Pretty cool difference from your typical American mills.

Your builds look darn good. Generally they're quite clean and that's the most important thing to consider right out of the gate. You've shown restraint by not building beyond your skills and the techniques you've applied you've done very well. Spray painting is nice and even. Next time you can explore using Bare Metal Foil and maybe polishing your finish. But only if that's what you want to do to keep it fun and interesting. Nice work.

I really don't think it gets swoopier than Delahaye. But I'd put this on the list; 1938 Talbot-Lago.

But that's the kicker. From the incomplete info in the ad, sounds like you didn't even need to build anything. It's a "Kit Idea Contest." I mean, nobody here has any opinions about what kind of subjects the model companies should develop.

Wow, that was pretty exclusive, even then. It's not just what the MPC prizes were, but the volume. As a kid, that would have been something to get excited about. I was building back then, but they were R-O-U-G-H!

Another reason why model producers operated on a whole other level... By comparison Revell/Gears this year offered top winners 12 kits, apparel and misc. A lot's changed.
