  1. But hey! It's free shipping. So...............
  2. I recently cracked open the AMT (MPC) 72 GTO and the seats look pretty close. Headrests are separate add ons.
  3. I was hoping the video would be a demonstration rather than a speech, but he's pretty clear. Every example I've seen of hydrographics shows a whole body covered in swirls, which was always lost on me unless you get a really compelling pattern or mix of colors. But while watching, I thought maybe it's best used as an accent. Maybe using it as texture under part of a two tone paint or a pattern coat under tint where the dip is not the end of the process. Handling would be less of an issue too if you're isolating the printed area.
  4. Quite nice. C'est magnifique.
  5. Sadly, those who are not computer literate will be left behind because our society is not considerate or patient of those who are not "connected." Tony, your friend isn't connected because he's intimidated by the technology and doesn't feel he needs it because he's gotten by without it. I've known many like him. But like my acquaintances, he may be a good case for someone to take the time to slowly introduce him to the benefits. Someone who will take the time to show him computers with patience and clarity. Like all of us, once he discovers the new world, his preconceived biases may change and he can discover the benefits on his own. The force feeding of technology is what some older folks resist, and sometimes I don't blame them.
  6. Then would you say... (ahem)... no runs, no drips, no errors?
  7. You've clearly put a lot of thought into the bikes and you seem to know a lot about your interest area. Nice work. If you get good with an airbrush you could really do something with the tribal flame pattern. That would look pretty good on a bike.
  8. I don't like to build original issue kits because I too desire to keep them true to their original design. I'll build the reissues so I don't feel the need to preserve the integrity of an original and sometimes that integrity looks kind of rough. Which is why I respect your model so much... to look so good, yet honor the way it was made. Well done.
  9. I agree with Dave. Clean presentation of the tire is part of what you pay for. Most shops even clean the blue off new white walls.
  10. Wow, every detail looks fantastic. You really thought through every piece. The door hinges look great, very precise. I'm impressed.
  11. Killer stuff Karl. A nice choice for this race, crisp and clean. Glad you pulled it out of the archives.
  12. My childhood dentist was nearing retirement and his practice was from the '40's. He did outstanding work but he was NOT painless. It's SO much different today. It's more nuisance than trauma so getting psyched out is just wasting energy. It'll be fine.
  13. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=74397 Looks like it's a Modelhaus conversion though.
  14. I had marginal success doing this. The fender seems to have been stronger than the horizontal body. Fender didn't widen but body caved. Yet I've seen this done effectively by others. I ended up adding a split to give the fender room to expand out, then fill the horizontal cut and the vertical split.
  15. Sorry you couldn't find a way to the Mpls. NNL North. These things on the primer table would have been a great conversation piece. As good as it looks in paint, too bad it hides some of your hard work.
  16. Are you sure you don't mean "into big trains?" He played with them sometimes ("The General").
  17. My GF and I both enjoy flower gardens and now after a discussion about dioramas, she's really getting into a fairy garden. I thought that was fine for her, I wasn't that interested until she got all stoked about G-scale things and now I can't help but get drawn into it. Gardening AND modeling. But she'd hang me if I put a "rust & crud" car in it.
  18. Me too Dominik. It's the only model I've purchased that my girlfriend got excited about. Hope I can do it this well for her.
  19. Wonderful. Nicest civilian build of this model I've seen.
  20. Gonna say '54 Panel.
  21. I think you've proven yourself as a valid resource Bill. Chime in and/or "pick your battles" as you see fit. I think this forum is lucky to have an even-mannered contributer with such technical shop knowledge as well as well-rounded modeling knowledge. Make your case and let the chips fall as they may. Your contribution may not be accepted by whom it's directed at, but there are a few thousand readers who'll get it.
  22. Thanks Greg, I love stuff like that. 2012: Guy Fieri, Celebrity Chef. Really? With a long history of auto industry and racing legends as pace drivers, it really gets diluted when the hot cars leading the greatest spectacle in auto racing are handed over to reality TV celebs and/or fashion models.
  23. Whoa. Now that's quality. Lovely balance of old and new, great detail.
  24. How much 'glass could a 'glass dent dent, if a 'glass dent could dent 'glass? Seriously though, those dents are really good. Pretty believable. Is that just from gouging and sanding or are they puttied too?
