X-ITE! Fun With Ed Roth's Surfite...WIP 4-14-13
Lunajammer replied to Ira's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Not sure where this is going yet, but the suspense is killing me. -
1-in-64 chance of getting it right, I like those odds. Hmm, something cops would avoid... nuclear waste? TNT? Biohazard? Chief of Police? Ohhhhhh wait. Would said vehicle be, perhaps, all black?

Barbara Stanwyck. That's what that is right there. Great work Richard.

65 Riviera Mid-school Cruiser Flaked Paint 6-6
Lunajammer replied to Albie D's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Sorry I saw this a little late and I'm sure you've already chosen your rear end treatment, but I love this taillight assembly the way you show it. Asymmetric styling is risky but courageous and not often attempted, yet there was an era that it was popular and this car fits right in. -
As a kid, when given the choice to buy any of the Hawk streamliners, I chose this one because it looked more real, what did I know about salt flat racing. I liked playing with it for a while, then didn't like it. Now, as an adult, I've wondered what I could do with it for fun again.

No problem Curt. I didn't know that, but now that you mention it, it makes sense. I'm pretty open about not being a gear head so I just learn as I go. I can't shoot for 100% accuracy because I've already made a different, grievous error on the engine that I covered by trying to make it look like it's supposed to be that way (creating doubt is a great get-out-of-jail-free tool). And I don't mean the floating pulleys Harry. I won't divulge the answer until the end when everyone could care less.

There was a time we had a club member who, to my best guess, had Aspergers. Mentally challenged, but mostly self reliant adult and vigorous about building models. They were disasters. But he found people to whom he could show his models and who would be friends with him. Any constructive advice we gave him would be lost but he loved being part of something. I suspect such a person might suffer on this forum. Not because so many are rude but because we're not always careful to consider who is posting the pics.

That is correct. If a viewer likes your photo, they can order merchandise from the photo hosting site with your photo on it; mugs, t-shirts, magnets, etc. My GF is a dog breeder and takes wonderful photos. Her photos of her dogs from her photo hosting site started showing up on merchandise being sold by a vendor at dog shows and she had no recourse to stop it. Yes, she still owned the rights to her photos but her photo site also has been given permission, per her membership, to do whatever they want with them, including selling them commercially.

Beautiful model Phil. This car has been on my interest radar for some time. Lots of neat styling cues and you did a great job.

Fascinating project and excellent results. I read your WIP thread. Pretty cool. -
If you're talking about small thin burn spots I've had success touching them up with a brush. Dab very lightly in thin coats, almost like dry brushing. When you've built it up to your satisfaction, knock down the ripples with your polishing tools. It may not be perfect but only a trained eye looking for it will see it. Not sure about candies or transparent paints though.

Very, very nice. A refreshing take on the Challenger. I love it.

Good Build Tips for a 10 year old...
Lunajammer replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Go easy on the glue. Be patient and keep a steady hand. Don't get bogged down the by steps that may not interest her. Build it any way she wants that keeps it fun. -

I love following this Kenn. It's more involved than I can give it this time but if you don't mind I'd like to bookmark this page. I'd love to come back and try a wheel wiring like this for a future project. Keep it up, it's fascinating.

Model Prices Swap Meet VS Ebay?
Lunajammer replied to DailyGrindCustoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For that reason this will probably be a short conversation. Swap meets are almost always the best deal; no shipping, you negotiate down instead of up and you get to hold in your hand what you buy. But as Robert says, selection is in ebays favor. -
Worst Ouch, Building a Model?
Lunajammer replied to Skip's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, that's as sure as losing the lottery. Okay, the closest I came happened during my year modeling professionally, a barrel bur on a motor tool ripped across my knuckles. Stung like a mother (in-law) but didn't require treatment. -

Never been blooded. -
I finished the engine on the Corvette/Camaro, Cormaro, whatever... The photos flatter it but the silvers were not as diverse as I'd hoped so in real life it's kind of flat. But I'm getting better at fuel lines. I should, it took two very patient evenings.

Jordan, I really like what I'm seeing on all your recent posts. I think this will be a fascinating entry and you're really knockin' it out.
