  1. My gosh Paul, what a stellar year. Beautiful cars and a great range of subject matter.
  2. Hard to believe it's been six years already, but there seemed to be some success with the CBP posted here. You could either resurrect that one or continue as you are with a new post and fresh builders. Just thought you might like the reference.
  3. A little web surfing seems to confirm that. I'll have to check my old files to see if that had once been a Johan catalog. What's confusing me is I was pretty much out of modeling from the early-mid 70s when I was really into Johan products and about '89 when I was getting re-introduced to mainstream modeling and X-El was barely on my radar and I didn't really understand what the company was.
  4. I know it says '89, but I got my catalog around '73, '74 and looked very much the same. Even at that time, half the listings were unavailable.
  5. I bought two of them off the shelf back in the day and still have them. One is unbuilt because I want it to be perfect and I can't decide on what treatment. The other donated the running gear, engine and seats to a 70 Toronado restoration because the chassis were identical.
  6. I give you creds for bangin' out the Super Bee Jonathan. I really didn't think you'd make it but you've got a pretty respectable starter and I like to see the converted cars. I don't see a slouch in the bunch so it's great to see the quality of builds and the modelers who persevered through the challenges. More later.
  7. To you master visionaries, it sometimes breaks my heart to see brilliant and superbly executed startups get put out into the weeds. Makes me want to come over to your house with a box of trading stock, a bottle of vodka and pester you like a kid in a candy store for your cast-offs.
  8. It's not the quantity, it's the quality. Beautiful work and as always, interesting subjects.
  9. Must be the long winters there in Russia, but this is a fantastic collection. You should be proud. Thanks for sharing.
  10. Wow, what a bold change. High tech to low tech. Hot to cold. Flat to mountains. Urban to, well, less urban. Grain fed to grass fed. Palm trees to pine trees. Too bad the kids are grown, good place to raise them.
  11. Pretty darned crisp for 1/72. I wish I had your experience.
  12. I fell in love with these the first time I saw one on a poster. I think it looks great.
  13. Well that sucks. It'll be nice when all this cancer heart foolishness is behind you and you can get on with business. Till then, just keep pluggin' away and keep us posted. We all want to know you're getting better.
  14. Hate's a strong word, but I'm afraid I detest you. The engine doesn't even look that bad.
  15. Bruce, the level of detail you've invested into your truck really shows your passion. I admire that. I don't think there's anything I'd build that could sustain my interest to that extent. It all looks worth it. Jesse, sure sorry to hear you're out. I've become a fan of your work over the last couple years. I hope when everything comes together you'll finish it up and show us.
  16. Wow. Almost ten years ago. Two guys even like it . Get well soon Harry.
  17. Unbelievable. All the paint and textures are perfect. One of the year's best. Of course, the photos are excellent too.
  18. Gluing together halves that could be molded as wholes. Worse on older kits, but carburator halves, master cylinder halves, exhaust manifold halves, I don't even like gluing seat halves together. Thank God we evolved past tire halves. But every now and then a new head scratcher shows up.
  19. That's perfect Darren, Thanks. The brush I'm using is like a trimmed down version of your top brush. Maybe I'm not so far off. Anyone else? (P.S. Darren, if you're in the Las Cruces, SENM area, I've got a lot of billboard designs hanging around there.)
  20. The dry brushing technique is simple enough and there are many threads showing results of dry brushing and descriptions of dry brushing. But what I'd like to see is a picture of the brushes you use for what effects. I'm striving for the effects shown here. I'm not completely satisfied with my past efforts and I'm not sure I'm using the right kind of brushes for the right application with the right mediums. Pics anyone?
