  1. Another vote for testors jet exhaust.
  2. What year of Citroen? Tucker had a headlight that turned with the wheels in 1948 and some of the higher end cars of the 30's had driving lights that also turned with the wheels (Duesenberg iirc). And the driving lights on some of the high end cars were almost as big as the regular headlights on the mass produced cheaper cars. I was typing as you posted. lol.
  3. That is good news. C1 models is on the vendors list for NNL East in a couple of weeks. I will have to pick up a can of that metalizer. In the pictures it looks pretty good (appears very chrome-like) when applied over a metallic blue basecoat. Hopefully it is just as good when viewed in person. Also I am interested to see if it can be handled much or at all without being worn away or transferring onto a persons hands.
  4. While looking for where I could buy spaz stix chrome somewhere local to me, I ran across "MGM Hobby Super Magic Powder" prime electroplating powder. While the spaz stix mirror chrome looks good, when compared side by side with the MGM powder, the spaz stix looks like shiny silver paint. The MGM powder also seems very simple to use. The problem I have run into is finding a source for the powder or even finding any current information on this product. Pretty much everything that I have been able to find is at least a year old. A lot of information is 2 plus years old. Possibly someone with internet ninja skills could find more than me but I have hit a wall, getting the same results for each different search terms that I enter. I would like to try this stuff out but that will be hard to do if I cannot find any to try. My question is, Does anyone know any current information for MGM Magic Powder? Has it been deemed dangerous and removed from the market? Did it stop being made for some reason? Any information would be welcomed. Thanks.
  5. The Cutlass Supreme and the Hurst/Olds kits are out of the same die. If you have both kits in hand at the same time the sprue with the hood on it has the gate for the scooped hood closed off in the Supreme kit and vice versa. The gate for the uptop is also closed off in the Hurst/Olds kit so the only way to build a top up version of the Hurst car is to buy a supreme kit as well. The only other differences are the custom wheels included along with the stock ones in the Supreme kit and the decals are totally different. One nice thing, with a little bit of tweaking the uptop fits well on the reissued 69 Chevelle convertible. With some more involved modifications the chassis works well also to replace the one in the Chevelle hardtop or convertible kits too.
  6. From what I have read, they are still casting and producing as orders come in. I think they are anticipating a rush of orders before they retire and that is why they gave the modeling community a two-year heads up that they were going to retire. as far as ordering from the modelhaus, order without any fear as to the quality of the parts. I have a few of their bodies and many more of the smaller bits and pieces that they produce. Everything I have ever gotten from them as being top quality.
  7. It sounds like if you want something from them, going through eBay is the way to buy it. You can buy it and if they do not deliver, you open a PayPal case. PayPal will either make them send you what you purchased or they will refund your money. That sounds fairly safe to me. Very little risk to the buyer. Just my 2 cents.
  8. IIRC Norm @ replicas and miniatures of maryland has a set of smoothed bumpers for the sedan. Not sure if the wagon rear bumper is different though.
  9. Looks really good! Are the rest of the suspension bits and pieces provided or do you need to find a donor kit? If so, which donor kit? Do you provide vacuum formed glass for it?
  10. That right there is reason enough to buy one. lol
  11. LOL. Yup, I see those now. 2 halves of a stromberg looks like. This one sure is a monster next to your Raider Vette. I think this is the closest that I have seen you build a kit out of the box since I joined the forum. How does it look in the dark?
  12. Looking great Ira, can't wait to see it lit up. Is it just me or do those amidships housings look like the two halves of a quick change rear end center section? Might be something like the AMT 57 chevy chassis that was used on the Millenium Falcon by the original prop builders.
  13. Adam, The best kit source for a correct 6 cylinder is in the 1960 Chevy custom fleetside pickup truck kit. The engine itself is correct for a 1959 car, however you will have to source or scratch build an air cleaner as the truck one is different than the passenger car version. The oil pan may also be slightly different for the passenger car engine. For the steelies the best bet would probably be in the AMT 62 Impala kit. It has been reissued multiple times and is very easy to find. someone on this board probably even has one they would trade you the wheels out of. For the questions about the side trim I think your best bet would be to go on the HAMB and search for photos on there. If you cannot find any photos then post a question asking and I would bet someone on there will be able to answer your question. The guys on there are a wealth of knowledge about pre-64 cars and trucks. I could easily tell you how many holes are down the side of a 59 El Camino as I have one in my garage that is disassembled but the four-door sedan would be different. One thing to keep in mind is that the side trim for an Impala and the side trim for a Bel Air are very different. There were three different levels of trim available on the 59 Chevys and each one mounted differently and was shaped differently. You will need to know exactly which one you need to replicate your movie car properly. Hopefully this information helps you in your build.
  14. Check out Wheels and Wings on the Danforth. They have a good selection of aftermarket stuff. Also check out Group 25 Model Car Club. We have a swap meet coming up in about a month. Check out our website for local upcoming shows as well. http://www.group25.org/
  15. Who makes that kit and what scale is it? Same type toyota 25 series truck I drive everyday too. Need to get me one of those.
  16. I also tend to agree with this assessment. Henry Ford was not one to waste money. I cannot see him having a brass script made to mount on the rad core itself when the Ford name was already stamped into the brass radiator. Having the Ford name and script on the front of the car in two places so close together does not strike me as something he would do. After all, this is a man that had shipping crates made of a certain wood and made to specific sizes so that they could be disassembled and used as floor boards in order to save money. Overall this looks like an excellent kit and I look forward to getting one. Possibly even two, one to build stone stock and one to turn into a gow job.
  17. Note that the power shovel isn't a exactly a Mitsubishi. It is a Mithubishi. I wonder if that is an accidental typo or a way to get around a licensing issue.
  18. That made me laugh out loud. I wonder how many of the younger members won't get that joke though. Cool car.
  19. those look really good. how do you make sure that they are round with a nice smooth edge?
  20. When I send an unsealed opened kit I always try and put the parts inside the box in a ziplock bag. I have found this to be cheap insurance against them tearing the box open in transit and losing small parts. just a tip for the future.
  21. For tie down ratchet straps try this website. http://www.kitformservices.com/photoetch.html Look under cab, chassis, and general. p/n PE63
  22. I have a question out of curiosity more than anything else. why would a model kit company do a limited run of 2000 of anything? I would think that it would not make financial sense to cut steel to only make 2000 of something unless they were under contract to do so. Most model companies reuse tooling over and over to amortize the tooling costs so having a limited run of a particular kit seems odd.
  23. Maybe use the tools in your album to flip the pictures upside down in your album? Then when you post them they might be the right way up? Just an idea on how to solve your issue.
  24. Parts by Parks used to make several different sizes but I have heard that he is no longer making parts.
  25. It is if you're a pirate.
