I am not so sure its Licensing , as VW is owned by VAG, which also owns just naming a few, Audi and Lamborghini , Seat, Skoda, and we have seen Revell /AG do the Audi R8 , Aoshima/Fujimi with their Lamborghini kits, Fujimi/Tamiya with their Porsche kits, Bellkits are currently doing a VW Polo, and they also have Skoda kits, and those are License kits. I really have no idea how the VAG handles their licensing.

Luck is gonna be on your side a little bit with the scale difference's, trailer being 1/24th and the cars being 25th , here, is mine with 1/24th scale cars, and of them being the same, they are all consider to be small sports cars , you can see, its a tight fit Its a neat project , good luck with the rest of it

Same can be applied to the Asian kits, (murican) builders get upset when they do not do a US Spec version of whatever kit , well , of course not, and why would they ?, they are doing kits for their home market, just like RAG (lol) is doing.
