Detail painting with craft acrylics

Last year I used black craft paint from Dollar Tree to paint the grill on a Dodge Ram project. It was heavily diluted with water and laid down very nicely. I used gravity and some thin q-tips to clean the edges. In my experience, cheap craft paint is good for non-flat surfaces like the grill. For flatter surfaces, I prefer using Vallejo black. It lays down very smooth and is very easy to clean up. Best of all, it doesn't have to be diluted. Here are the vents on one of my white cars: -
Steve, thank you for the information. I'm assuming the full wheel covers included in the kit will be the AWD style, seen in the first photo? Or will they be the 5 spoke design seen on the second?
-
I always found the Lindberg police wheels (both steelies and full wheel covers), to be too flat - that is, not concave enough. I really hope the AMT kit comes with RWD wheels as well.
-
Thank you!
-
Do you have close up photos of the Charger Pursuit?
-
I haven't been this excited for a new kit in a long time! The possibilities are endless!
-
Excited for the Charger Pursuit, I'm glad it's finally official!
-
Hmm, I was trying to see if someone designed the actual Silverado seats. Its something that I'm trying to avoid going "close enough" on. But thanks for the link and explanation.
-
I haven't found any seats that resemble the ones on the Silverado. If you know of any, please share a link.
-
Does anybody out there make aftermarket bench seats for the AMT C-1500/Silverado kits? My only real issue with these kits, especially the re-releases, is that they don't come equipped with the seats that most trucks had. There were some variations, including solid bench seats, split bench seats, and the introduction of headrests on the 1992 models.

Great photos, thanks.

Great tip, I had never thought of that before.

It would probably do well. I think something that maybe hurts the drag kit a bit is that there's no obvious indication that it can be built stock. I had to confirm on this forum that it indeed had all the stock parts so I could buy them to build police versions. Very jealous. They never showed up at any HLs in So Cal.
-
This one? I never saw it at any of the dozens of Hobby Lobbys I've been to in Southern California over the years. Strange. I would kill for another one at a good price.
-
Are you sure those sales aren't an anomaly? The stock/pursuit version sold out fairly quickly from what I was able to see and I rarely see it for sale in the second hand/ebay market. When I do find them, they are usually listed for $60+. The drag version is still widely available and I have seen that kit sitting at every major hobby store/Hobby Lobby I've been to all these years later. I'm not debating your point about modeler's general interest (drag vs stock), but what I've seen as a customer has been the exact opposite of what you said.

I've never really had an attachment to kit boxes so I throw them away when I can as a space saving measure. I have duplicates of many kits though, so I sometimes save a box of that particular kit and throw in all the extra parts from its sister kits in there. Knowing that all of the (for example) Chevy C-1500 parts from various kits are in the C-1500 box helps keep me organized.

I ordered and received the MPC 1982 Bronco through an online vendor a few weeks ago. I went through my customary routine and opened the kit up to inspect the contents for any major issues. Unfortunately, I discovered that the body and shell were badly warped and that the hood had a major crease running through it. Basically all 3 of the major body parts had issues. I submitted a parts request to Round 2 (including photos) on September 10th and received an acknowledgement email on September 15th. The response was "Please allow 4 to 6 weeks (or possibly longer due to a smaller workforce) to process through our parts department." I wasn't quite sure if this meant I would even get the parts but I prepared for the long haul. Today (September 19th) the replacement parts, all in perfect condition, arrived on my porch! I couldn't be happier with Round 2's service. I would like to remind everyone to please open and inspect your newly produced kits after purchase as the window for a manufacturer to replace the parts will close before you know it.

Parts Box - The Box Itself

I use these from Hobby Lobby. They're about $3 each. I have 4 of them and I use them to organize various odds and ends. -

Detail painting… a question of the whats and whys

In my experience, Vallejo is the best for detail painting. Their black is wonderful and probably the paint I use the most with a brush. I'm lucky to have a LHS near me that focuses on models, but the store doesn't carry Vallejo because the owner doesn't like it, he says its "no good" ? Luckily I have a Hobby Lobby near me. -
I just ordered a can from MegaHobby, they have it in stock at a good price. Shipping was only about $5, so I paid around $40 total. We can talk about prices all we want, but this is as cheap as it'll get for this particular product: https://www.megahobby.com/products/150ml-chrome-spray-revell-germany.html
