  1. Very cool! One of my favorite old kits
  2. His show is entertaining and his builds are very strange. I’d love to see them in person, just to see how they actually look!
  3. Guys, manufacturers are cautious with sending out parts because there is a lot of scamming. I’ve been in conversations with manufacturers who tell tales that it’s common for people to say their kit was missing the tires and rims, but not requesting the rest of the chrome tree the rims are on... what are the chances? When Revell came out with the 66 Chevelle wagon with the custom hood, suddenly there was a run of folks who all claimed the flat hood was missing on their 66 ElCamino kits. Every scammer thinks they’re pretty swift but the scam is pretty apparent on the receiving end. And for the most part, every request means they have to trash an entire kit. Where your request is legit to you, to ask for two bodies at the same time may seem odd to them. And for the box size, part placement into boxes etc, warping is more because parts are removed from molds too fast, boxing isn’t done that instantaneous. And like the other companies, Moebius doesn’t own their manufacturing, so there are limits to their actual control. Their kits could very well come from the same contractors used by the others.
  4. Or N’orleans brothel
  5. Super work! I especially like how you’ve handled the front end. I’ve been meaning to do one with the tilt nose returned to fixed grill and separate hood. And those head lights just make it a completely unique car!
  6. Aha! At first I thought someone removed my posts and was puzzled why! Not hard to mess with my rather fragile grip on reality!
  7. Set an eBay search agent up for this kit. It is a reissue so there are several older issues out there. With a search agent, they'll send you an email whenever one is available. Eventually you'll find one at a bargain price.
  8. Hmmm.. I went into my 57 Ford parts box to find a tail light bezel someone needed. I came across this unfinished project. Back when I was restoring a few old customs, a dealer friend offered this up. The box had enough to build two cars but just this one body. At the time, I thought the concept was cool but the work poorly executed. The paint is poor and trim painted crooked with Testors brush paint silver. And since then a few tires had stuck to the hood. It’s not an old custom, the interior used is pretty modern, so I left it in the parts box. Then this morning I got looking at it with fresh eyes. The basic conversion work was done fairly clean. The roof is nicely blended into the car and the wagon interior fits well. If stripped, it may make for a reasonable project. Thoughts? Does this one deserve to be completed? My two old custom restorations
  9. That wagon has been on eBay a while. Pretty much trolling for suckers. It’s not Modelhaus nor Hettick. Paul always starts his out low and his fans drive the prices! And as said the wagon isn’t a particularly rare kit. It was only a promo when new, and I believe first issue was in the Oldies series. And as you see, the chassis is just a promo plate. As said these were once cheap, and still can be found reasonable if you look. I started this one in the cheap days, used three kits to get it right! And for the question about selling Modelhaus kits.. when Don announced the business closing and because he’s a class act, he gave us all a last call. That resulted in a speculative rush that I understand resulted in huge orders. Enough so that the Holthauses worked a year or more later than they wanted. That bothered me.
  10. Do we have two identical threads going? I had responded to this question earlier and just added a comment.. not on this thread
  11. I believe that the trucks are coming back because it’s a hot market right now. And these will help fuel that! Editing to add this Tim Boyd comment from another thread: “Also, various industry sources tell me this has been a blockbuster year for model car and (especially) model truck kit sales....” As far as Mack, I don’t understand how AMT and others can sell the model, which is a close image of the truck, without licensing. I can imagine if you went to sell an unbadged Ford Mustang, Ford would be all over it. The image is as proprietary as the name
  12. I’m curious as to the “why” people build what they do. What makes you passionate about cars, trucks, Fantasy / sci fi, aircraft or military models? Is it something that’s always been deep inside you? Or caused by life events, such as a stint in the service? With me it’s always been cars, from the first I could remember. Maybe my first ride home from the hospital in a 54 Studebaker? Or my father’s interest in cars rubbed off on me from the very beginning. I have never been a pilot or in the military. I did mention earlier I was an army brat and grew up in bases around the world. Still, military equipment never clicked with me. I can identify much of it but feel no passion or need to model it. What makes you click?
  13. Very nice build on one of my favorite kits! I’ve built three so far. I like the color scheme and overall look of your model. One remark, see the hood side trim in the photo above. You have reversed the trim. The Ford logo goes to the front. But you did complete the arc up front in yours so it looks custom and right! Also, something everyone has done, even on mine.. see the body color between the Ford emblem and the bars. The kit has this area as part of the chrome part. Everyone leaves it, I will fix this on my next one. With side glass, I cut the vent window away and used just that, avoiding the closed windows. You can do that next time.
  14. Thanks for the report Jim! My results were about the same with an original Mattel Vac-u-form unit. I found that it took me a few tries to get an acceptable clear glass part. With expensive sheets! Aside from an occasional clear window, I think the era of making parts in a heat forming machine has passed. Parts like hoods and convertible boots are too thin and have very soft edges. Today we are more likely to go resin cast, and soon enough it will all be 3D printing.
  15. David, do you have a spray booth? I just bought a Pace unit and am amazed that I have no paint smell in the model room. I made this same mistake with my 50 Ford pickup / Jitney bus. I wanted a deep yellow I couldn’t find in Tamiya or Duplicolor so I bought the Rustileum. It took many coats with several days between to keep it from crinkling. In the end the paint looks too thick to me. But I can justify in my mind that it’s supposed to be a paint job done in an island shed!
  16. Very cool ? Thank you for not rusting the nose! ?
  17. Amen! Here are my granddaughters on the occasion of the eldest’s third birthday last weekend. The twins are 16 months old and running around! Chaos but fun!
  18. I’ve had my pix, both my own account and the NNL East account, on Fotki forever. It’s a good value and it’s been smooth since the server move out of USA. If you go with then, sign up for one year and often they’ll have sales, that’s when I re-up for multiple years. I do put my pix directly on the board here.
  19. For Popeyes birthday ?
