  1. I use these small 3 ounce bathroom paper cups as paint stands. Parts on toothpicks. These cups were originally used to spray a bit of paint for brushing, and once done, they become paint stands until they wear out.
  2. I have an original convertible...
  3. Back in business! Supply order arrived from hobbylinc.com in Georgia. I ordered via eBay and chose them before they had the Alclad spray plus the other paint I needed! Colors are Tamiya TS-79 Semi gloss clear and TS-7 Racing White which is a warm white. Last is my favorite color I cannot build without.. Testors Dullcote!
  4. Cool. Last article I read said the car disappeared after its show run and was probably restored back to stock. Glad they found it.
  5. There is at least one aftermarket company that was offering this Nomad.. I believe it was SEL. Very doable and doing the conversion yourself may very well be easier than building that original Revell kit!?
  6. As a kid I fell in love with this box art. Still my favorite box of all time! Of course the kit was another story! I tried to build it as a 10 year old and failed. At 11 I reasoned that I was older and up to the task, um no! As an adult and new modeler some 30 years ago I tried again and got further than ever before but it’s still in a box unfinished. I eventually want a 57 Nomad for my shelf, and I’ll either start with a resin body conversion off the modern tool Revell 56 Nomad tool or do that conversion myself. At one point Danbury Mint was going to do the Hollingsworth Nomad, and got as far as developing the prototype, working with the guy who built the 1:1 replica of the car. The original car disappeared and is thought to exist today in another form. That’s when that issue with the Chinese supplier caused the end of the Danbury car program. Rick Hanmore told me they gave the prototype replica to the car owner. It’s a shame, that diecast would have sold well and I would have surely bought one to scratch my Nomad itch!
  7. As a lifelong car guy and model builder I had never looked all that closely at Model A’s and a few years ago I would’ve told you they were all the same. Then maybe two years ago I got into the old Monogram 1/24 Model A series and that’s when I learned more about the different models and year differences. I suspect others will do the same. Thats part of the fun of this, I get to learn new stuff all the time!
  8. Ha! I logged out to see what the log in looked like to give Ron the correct advice and had trouble getting back in! I wasn’t sure what my password was either!
  9. The year of 9-11 we worried that NNL East would suffer, but six months after the catastrophic event, we had the biggest attendance ever and the vendors all did very well. In asking around, people did say that they knew they weren’t going to be going on a big vacation that year so they spent a bit more on their hobby to have something to do at home.
  10. Gee, it kinda goes like this... Both Steve Guthmiller and I suggest that your board is too mainstream and that you need a niche appeal to gain members. I give examples of some very active niche sites.. Dave Darby's Scale Survivors - 3,636 members Terry Jessee's Resin Car Kits & Parts Review - 2,993 members Your board - maybe five members, all names you pirated from this board... and instead of investigating the ideas, you go flying off the handle ranting about Facebook and calling me names.... Which tells me about the maturity level of moderation we'll be subject to on a board you moderate! My work here is done!
  11. A lot of them opened in ex TRU sites. Probably the correct square footage and configuration for their model. The two I'm most familiar with opened in old supermarkets. I've been in a number of their locations and they are eerily the same exact floor plans down to items being on the same hooks. Parallel universe times!
  12. Went to his webpage and wound up buying his VW Beetle bus.. thus board will be the death of me! ?
  13. I did my weekly supermarket run yesterday and they had packs of napkins, a first since the start of this mess. We have been using paper towels. That’s fine with me but the Mrs. complains daily! While I was there a girl pulled a pallet of paper towels out and started to put on shelves and was surrounded by people taking them right off the pallet. She joked that maybe she shouldn’t stock the shelves because people would pick pallet clean in a few minutes. True! Meat supply was decent. Not a lot of beef, but enough of everything else. No fresh chicken wings again but tons of big packs of legs. That’s becoming the theme of the pandemic for me.. Buffalo Chicken Legs! Deli department was shut down for cutting to order but pre-cut packs of cold cuts were out in a cooler case. No open donuts or rolls either, everything in sealed packs. That’s all a good thing. It’s amazing the simple things that make our days now!
  14. Agreed. The camera on my phone is much better than my original digital Sony Mavica! I take a lot of bench top progress photos to document my progress and to find imperfections in my work. I also share them on boards and keep in my Fotki albums. For final photos I will take pix outdoors on an overcast day. That lighting works well. For the average modeler just looking to share some photos without great gear and training, I always suggest that they take a load of pictures and in that lot they will find a few good ones. Just delete the rest since digital film is free!
  15. Ah! That 1960s combo of sunlight and nicotine! ?
  16. When in doubt, reboot! Go to main page for this board. Click on the three vertical stripes in the upper right corner The top word should be “Sign Out” do so. Now delete every browser window showing. Turn off your phone. Wait a few minutes and turn on the phone again. That should’ve rebooted everything. Bring up board main page. Click on those same 3 vertical stripes. It should say “Existing Users Log in”. Do so and see how things go
  17. Back in the early 1900s there was a movement in the USA by the communist party to collect all the wealth in America and give every man an equal portion. i believe it was John Rockefeller who said that by that very evening there would again be the rich and poor. Some folks will spend the stimulus check to the last dollar frivolously and be on the food hand out line the next day!
