And for the record, both my wife and I are not getting paid, living on savings. This will affect our retirement, trying to take it all in stride. This weekend we had TWO offers to attend parties in New Jersey. My wife’s reckless friend who cannot sit still put out an open call invite to our circle of friends. That includes two cancer patients on chemo. Her daughter living in the home is a nurse taking care of Covid patients. We did talk with our two daughters about getting together and we all agreed that we had over two months of quarantine invested and didn’t want to screw that up. So we are home today. I have a big pack of ribs and a pack of chicken legs (wings are a rare commodity) so I will fire up the grill. And I’ll make one of my famous pasta salads. I may even put an hour or two in on a model. Doing the best we can!

So this is definition of PRO BUILT?
Tom Geiger replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kinda like buying a painting instead of just supplies to paint your own? There are people who admire nicely built models who don’t possess the skills the build them. -
They are not! New York is opening up based on risk, as is Pennsylvania where I live. Most of my state went to yellow, with the counties closest to Philly and NJ still on red and locked down. It’s based on proximity and risk. Although our numbers aren’t bad here in Chester county, many people would be commuting into Philadelphia and New Jersey, bringing the virus home with them. In restricting activity and movement it keeps the virus from spreading. Northern NJ is the hot spot and the governor is trying to keep people from traveling to the shore areas, which have less infection. While hotels and rental houses are not open, people who owned second homes at the shore wanted to quarantine there. Even that is taxing the limited resources in those areas. i have a friend in New York City who told me he thinks they are the only people still in their apartment building.. so where did all these people go and just where are they spreading the virus? And as far as contact spreading, my sister in law in Central NJ just tested positive for the antibodies, which means she had the virus. Nobody else in her household was positive, and she was only in the suburbs and worked in the local school. So who knows where she got it.

The issues with scratch building

Funny thing, remember when the argument was about people who could afford to buy aftermarket stuff like a sheet of photo etch ? -
Both the 32 and Model A series were interrupted by the bankruptcy. Who knows what we would’ve seen. The good news is that some of the same people are involved in the new company so let’s see what happens.

What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was out on Friday and saw a 55 2 door sedan in a gas station and 56 hardtop getting ready to enter the road. My favorite was a patina 56 4 door sedan driving the opposite direction. -
What Did You Have for Dinner?

Amish sausage pie. Got it and a shoofly pie at the local Amish market. Just trying to do anything different these days! It was edible, but not a culinary delight -

Ever buy kits...just to "Pirate" parts?
Tom Geiger replied to Southern Fried's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Everything I’ve built recently started with parts kits.. 1950 Chevy pickup- I had a couple of $5 started kits. Built one nice truck, still have a ton of parts. Currently building a pair of early Jeepsters from the remains of 3 kits. -

Opinions on upgrading rare vintage cars
Tom Geiger replied to Mike Young's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Part of the “To build or not to build” discussion has to include the skill level of that builder. There are builders who turn kits into art and have undisputedly improved the model and increased its value. There are also adults who lack skill and will make a mess, permanently ruining that kit. -
Opinions on upgrading rare vintage cars
Tom Geiger replied to Mike Young's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I got back to modeling as an adult 30 years ago. From my teens up to that time, probably 15 years, I had bought and tucked away some 25 models for “someday”. When I did get back and saw the work people were doing, I didn’t think I was up to building those precious models yet skill wise. So I bought some then current kits to practice on. Over time I did gain skills, but somehow my priorities changed and I never got back to those saved kits! Not a single one of them! -

decal film vs decal bonder spray

Yes, the Testors sealer is pretty resilient but still print several of each image because stuff does happen! -

A question- what’s the graphic interface you are drawing your parts into? Are you working 1:1 at full size and printing at 1/25 scale, or working actual size ?
