What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool. My wife would still have been search all the pockets in her purse for her phone! Once she found it in the absolute bottom of the main section, she’d find out her battery went dead! ? -

Changing Times, Changing Tastes
Tom Geiger replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree that people collect what they remember. It may be a car they pined over as a kid but couldn’t afford until now, or a car that was significant in their life. That’s the collectibility of bread and butter mainstreamers, including the family station wagons. Pop culture comes into play so the Pacer got a boost from the Wayne’s World movie. There is a cult collecting following. The Pacer was a novel and innovative concept when new, and I’d venture that if it was a Chevy or Ford, it would be a lot more popular now! -
Ha! Now that you bought one, guess what will come in Monday’s mail?

This is what happens when non modelers look at something from their perspective. I was one of the people interviewed for that Wall Street Journal on the hobby. I spoke with the author via phone for a total of two hours. He was quite engaged as I talked about our network of friends tied together through the Internet and that we’d get together at national and regional shows a few times a year. He even called me back to go over some facts. I had high hopes! What happened? A fluff piece that had a lead in that made us look like developmentally stunted adults playing with toys and “how much are they worth?”

I have a number of this kit, as when I see them cheap at shows I grab them for the flathead six. I also have both a 4 door sedan and sedan delivery resin kit.

This week my wife and I thought it would be good to get our table set up on the deck so we could dine out there for a change of pace... So I power washed the deck as first step. Now I need to run the sander over some spots, then put a fresh coat of paint on it.. of course it’s rained every day since! ?

Any hope of back-editing on the horizon?

Cool! I like that you took care of those interior tabs showing on the underside. They are visible on the one car I built!

That one is funny since they are upstairs tenants. When I first got married we lived in a downstairs apartment and the couple who lived upstairs from us walked especially loud. We named them “The Leg Irons”. And it got worse.. they got a dog and every evening they’d play ball.. first we’d hear the ball bounce the length of the apartment.... followed by dog toe nails scrambling on the slippery hardwood floor! Fun!

What Did You Have for Dinner?

Buffalo Chicken Legs! Fresh off the grill. Grocery has been pretty much out of fresh wings lately, so we make our sacrifices! Actually just like wings but more meat and half the price per pound! -

Hobby Lobby re-opening
Tom Geiger replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I heard that they're going to open up stores here in Eastern Pennsylvania mid June. I was in Walmart the other day and their craft supply section was absolutely decimated! I saw that Michaels had pickup service. -

Agreed! I have one of his books, won it as part of a show award. While I’m no longer at the cutting edge of modeling personally, I admire the work of those who are! I love seeing what shows up at GSL. My own appreciation for this has increased over the years. As a fairly new modeler I met Angie Hiscano at a show. He had one of his cars with the totally brass hammered body, and next to it was the kit plastic body for comparison. I didn’t understand why he did this work, when he had a perfectly usable plastic body! Now I get it! ? -

There are still people in this hobby who don’t even own a cell phone. Or have any Internet access or even newspapers! The week of NNL East’s original date, I got a half dozen calls asking if the show was still on! We had it all over the web, on our website and it was in the news that New Jersey was on lockdown. Makes me wonder if these folks have a TV or even electricity!?! -
Cool project! you had been threatening to do this one! I have one of those fiberglass bodies, mine was molded orange. A guy in my club gave it to me maybe 25 years ago, he had ordered it and once he saw it, he knew he wasn’t going to do anything with it. I’ve kept it in my collection as a curiosity. You may have seen it when you were here and we sorted Valiants in my basement! I totally understand not opening that hood! You could shatter that whole body! And very thick, even the plastic kit body is very thick and hard to work with. But it is cool that you found a use for it. I will be watching!
