What Was the First Band You Saw in Concert?
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I’m not sure what was the very first. The summer after I graduated high school was the first time I had a drivers license to go to concerts. Summer of 1976. That year there was a concert series at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ. I saw The Eagles, Yes and Kiss there. Then someone got stabbed at a concert there and the city canceled the rest of the schedule! Today the stadium site is condos! -
It sucks when stuff breaks during this pandemic. The head of my HOA sent out a panic email to our development email chain asking if anyone knew a plumber who could install a new water heater quickly. He’s a decent guy in a jam so I dropped him a reply that if he was really stuck, I knew how to do the job. He responded with gratitude that he had a plumber on his way there.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
NIce work on the Mustang! I haven’t touched mine. I’ve been preoccupied with my 50 Chevy pickup charity builds which I should able to finish tomorrow. Then we will see. Fair warning, I may be changing horses. A combination of being distracted by new shiny objects and trying to build with supplies on hand! -
Or think so

I think I will pass on that one! Today there was a birthday procession in my neighborhood. I was out on my front yard and noticed SUVs lining up down the street. I thought someone was having an illegal gathering! Then they all started moving up the hill, I noticed they all had balloons on them and Happy Birthday 12 was on the windows. So they made some 12 year old on our street sorta happy! And on a positive note I am making some ribs on the barbie!

Revell Trabant 601S 30th anniversary of the Berlin Wall
Tom Geiger replied to GeeBee's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I lived in Germany from 1968-72 as a US Army brat. We went to Berlin and I remember being in awe of. Checkpoint Charlie and the escape museum. There was traffic through it, as East Germans did work in West Berlin and commuted daily. I remember watching the Trabbies sputtering through on their way back home. A lot of my friends were able to go tour East Berlin but we couldn’t because of my father’s security clearance. -
A few questions about the next build
Tom Geiger replied to landman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
And next you will need to build one of the trucks to tow ! I’m slowly finishing up my two charity builds. For me next up will be a Jeepster from my unfinished project shelf. -
We have not seen our three granddaughters in almost two months now. We are used to seeing them every week or two at the most. Even then the nine month old twins change or have progressed every time we saw them! Now they both have sprouted a tooth and feed themselves cereal puffs. Little Brielle now can pull herself up to standing. And we’ve only seen pictures. We were Skyping with them today and my two and a half year old granddaughter couldn’t understand why we weren’t there and was crying! Heart breaking! And tonight my wife told me not to change the TV channel because she was going to watch “Saturday Night Live”. I had to tell her it was Friday! Yea, we’ve had enough of this!

Sirius satellite radio! I got a free trial when I bought my Hyundai and renewed it for the first two years. I’m no longer commuting so I couldn’t justify the expense. When I got the renewal notice I canceled. These folks suck, they only allow you to cancel live with a phone operator so they can hound you to renew. So you wind up arguing with a woman you cannot understand, who keeps lowering the price. I finally got through that I was indeed canceling, or so I thought. I get my credit card bill and guess what’s there? Renewal at full price! Again I spent at least a half hour on the phone with an equally heavily accented woman who wouldn’t take no for an answer. I finally told her she could either cancel me with a complete refund or I would simply call my credit card company and deny the payment. Now I need to watch my card website to make sure they actually did do!

Something I noticed today MPC 72 GTO
Tom Geiger replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A lot of kits from that era were missing things like mirrors, master cylinders and other bits. That's just the way the industry was back in 1972, as the consumers were mainly young boys. If you want to put mirrors on the car, check in other GM cars of that era and you may find the correct ones. GM shared things like this between different makes. I had a pair of headrests for a 1:1 1969 GTO and the guy who bought them from me got them for his Buick, same parts! -
I think it’s more the “value engineering” that goes on today.. constant reviews of the product to be able to make it quicker and cheaper. Materials are swapped for cheaper quality parts to make a buck. And it really doesn’t benefit a manufacturer if their product lasts 60 years!
