Johan 63 fury... preserve or modify?
Tom Geiger replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I see it had that rare yellow exhaust system! -
My annual Christmas photo of my truck sitting in my wife's Christmas Village. Happy Holidays to all my friends in the hobby! It's time's like today I realize I am truly blessed with friendship!

If guys had a problem with the $600 Coronet, someone will have a heart attack over this one! I checked my email and eBay was bating me to look at this auction as "Ending Soon!" It had two minutes left so I decided to watch. The auction was at $725 showing, and I was thinking that Christmas eve wasn't a great time to end this auction. Then the fireworks happened! Look at the last three bids that all came in within a second of each other! And with seconds to go on the auction! It was exciting to watch! So indeed there are people out there with money to spend on quality items. Good for Paul, I'm pleased to see he made out so well with this car. And it's nice to know this market does exist! And I included the bidding so you can see how different people have different opinions and limits. Note that the first bidder was rather optimistic, thinking he could snag it for $50. Bidder two had a limit of $501. The next two bidders valued that model in the $600-800 range. And in the end the snipers brought out the big money. Those are all opinions of value and everyone voted with their wallet. And the fattest wallet won!

1960 Ford Ranchero
Tom Geiger replied to SnozzaP's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
No. At first it was a curbside when released in 1961, then same in 1962 as a customizing kit. The hood wasn’t opened until a release much later and that Chevy v8 from the 66 Chevy kit appeared. Round 2 added the 1960 grille in the latest release -
I watched it while babysitting at my daughter’s house. Didn’t realize it was a marathon, but I did notice it started over!

Yea, Springsteen was here and you missed it!?

I get a chuckle sometimes... I do have some expensive kits but my real passion is in my stamp collection..... United States, second stamp ever issued, 1840. Properly used on "cover", ten cents was double rate for distance, with authentication certificate... $1200-2400 all day long! And nobody is going to find the mold!

I have this same stand. Works fine for bodies. Some times I'll tape a part across the top. For small parts, I try to mount everything on either toothpicks or straight pins. I will drill a small hole where it won't be seen if needed. I'll either stick those into styrofoam or my favorite is these small bathroom cups. I can spray the parts and even leave them on there until I'm ready to use so I don't lose things! For weight, stack a few of the used cups together. I'll also tape larger parts to the top of one of the cups.

Yup, seller let the market decide. Can't fault him, good for him! For some folks, spending $600 is like you or I spending $6. All depends on where you are financially. And for those whining or calling the seller names.... jealousy! Not one of you with "morals" would turn down the money if it was offered to you! I have a lot of good kits and when I decide to sell a few on eBay I hope I'm that fortunate. And no I wouldn't have any problem selling them for big money to a willing buyer!

Neat addition! Have great holidays Rich! See ya in the spring!

decal film vs decal bonder spray
Tom Geiger replied to Shambles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have been buying the Bare Metal Foil brand clear decal sheets for the inkjet. The film is very thin and can curl up. I've learned to slide it off the backing onto the model to avoid this, and have been successful in patiently working out the curling with wet Q-Tips and tooth picks. One important thing when you are making your own decals is to make multiples of each image. A few may not print satisfactorily. Some may run as you put your clear spray over them, and you are sure to ruin a few installing them! -
Back on topic... I’d say those 100 year old members were just people who didn’t want to share their own info so just filled in anything. There are more long gone members than current ones. I had suggested years ago that board management delete profiles that hadn’t been accessed in maybe 5 years. Two reasons, first it would make the directory easier to use and a lot of those had clever user names that new people may want to use.

Kurt, I see your photo of a 1950 Ford pickup. And I noticed it's on Flickr. Why not just post the photos direct to this board? I have a great Fotki account, but I'm posting direct to the board.

Springsteen still lives in Monmouth County NJ and occasionally shows up places and sits in with the band. A few years ago we were meeting friends at Woody's Road House in Farmingdale, which is just a local bar with music on weekends. Never too crowded, we were shocked when the crowd was out the door! We knew the band playing was Patty Scalza's brother's band (Springsteen's wife) and people said Springsteen had showed up the previous Saturday and sat in with them. The resulting crowd was hoping lightning would strike twice. They were disappointed.

You can also "Copy" and "Paste" Bring up your image in your chosen photo viewer program. Your computer should automatically do this if you click on the photo in your folder. Once your photo is in the photo program, right click on the photo, and chose "copy" from the resulting menu. You may also find "copy" on the "edit" menu in your program. Move to the the reply box on this site (as Casey showed). Right click in that area and chose "paste" from the resulting menu. Your image should appear.

Back in the day I was a Springsteen fan, Born to Run era. He was a local guy who lived in the next town. You'd see him at the gas station and he'd say hello. I used to deliver pizza to his house. One year my buddy and I delivered phone books to his house. What turned me off to him was his political pontificating many years ago. We spent good money to see him at the New Jersey Meadowlands Arena, and as we all stood in the pouring rain (he was on a dry stage of course) he droned on for at least 20 minutes about how "Mr Bush is a bad man, man..." I didn't pay to hear his childlike political views, I paid to hear music. He could've played 3-4 songs in that time. I was instantly not a fan anymore.

I like it! What paint is under the Duplicolor clear? I've never had an issue with it.

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Tom Geiger replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That's great Rob! I really enjoy the accounts of your move from Florida to Idaho. -
That looks pretty good as a cleaned up survivor! I'd keep it that way and display it. I have a '65 convertible, built in it's original white plastic, I'm keeping mine original too.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm still alive! I have the Trabbie on the bench and I've been playing with tiny imperfections while the body is still in primer. Should be able to shoot some color (which is still gray!) this week.
