We could have another thread on how we ruined clothing! I was sitting at my daughter's house on Christmas day. I looked down at the leg of my good jeans and saw a small dark spot. I touched it and it was hard. I immediately knew it was a drop of CA !

Old draftsman's tip for keeping pencils and exactos from rolling. Just add a small "wing" of masking tape to it in a place where you normally don't touch it. A lot of us worked on tilted drafting boards, so mechanical pencils and such were always rolling!

The Falcon stocker tires were way too large for the Valiant. Here's an early shot making it look like a lunar rover or something. And a further clue on the tires.... note that they came with webbing in them...

I hate to say "I don't know!" I started that Valiant over ten years ago and the tires have been on the Falcon rims since then. I wish I knew as I have an idea for a Falcon modified stocker. If I figure it out I will let you know! I just pulled the Valiant out of my case and took two quick photos of the tires.. They are Goodyear tires, the rears are larger, with a width of 5/8" of an inch, the fronts are 1/16" more narrow. They are marked Blue Streak, and For Racing Use Only on the side wall. These tires are much smaller than the huge slicks that come with the Falcon. They look right on the Valiant, but may look small on the Falcon as it's much larger. I believe the Falcon is over sized, as it should be about the same size as the Valiant in real life. I'm hoping someone here can ID these tires!

What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's two I saw in New Jersey over the weekend. I always liked the smaller Jeep Cherokee pickup. When was the last time you saw one? Although they had it sitting up on the platform, it had "not for sale" on the window. Below is a worn Dodge Aspen. Both sitting on the same defunct used car lot. -
Cool! I have parts from a few of these in a box. I used it as a template to build my '64 Valiant stocker. Did you cut treads into those kit tires? The ones in my kits are bald as slicks which turned me off to the kit. I used different tires on my Valiant.

I have a good size nick in my left thumb nail. I was cutting door shims Friday and the jig saw jumped. Ouch!

Ford f 1 1950 revell
Tom Geiger replied to alexandr1977's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Alexander, your model is very nice. This 1950 Ford is one of my favorite kits so I really like your work. One small thing if I may help. That small bit of plastic is part of the mold, but not on the real truck. It should be cut away. Otherwise perfect! You also could use a license plate in your empty frame! In the USA, our 50 states all have different state issued license plates. You can make one here: www.acme.com/licensemaker Select the sate of Montana, and the year of 1949 (or you can choose a later plate if you'd like) Save the plate to your computer. You will need to reduce the size of it to match your model. I hope this helps! Your model is great! -

Ken, not to bomb your thread, I thought this could give you ideas. This one started out with Paddy Wagon sides too. I did make my own back panels from two 1950 Ford tail gates to get the Ford script on them. I made my own steps. For passenger seats, I found this was the best configuration. If you want to be able to access the cab in yours, just leave out the center seat. The seats are nothing more than Evergreen sheet cut to size. The cushions are two layers of basswood, covered with printed paper. Hope this helps! -
For this board it's best to post them directly on the board. That way they stay put as long as the board exists. Otherwise, I use Fotki.com. Probably for the past 20 years. It's a paid service, but reasonable in cost. You can have folders and albums too, and use your photos to post on boards with no limits. If you do sign up only do so for one year. They'll have sales during the year where you can add years at a bargain. I generally reup 5 years at a time for the maximum discounts.

How many extra large plaid flannel shirts do you need? ? I spent Christmas day in a relaxed mode, with my three little grand daughters. Here's me and two of them. Best Christmas gift ever! Note plaid flannel shirt. A few weeks ago my son in law hands me a shirt. He says he got it as a present, and it's more my style than his. I laugh and tell him I have no style, I wear whatever my wife and daughters buy for me. Yes, it was a plaid flannel shirt.

I got exactly what I asked for Christmas... nothing! Been telling the family for years that I have everything I want or need. This year my older daughter got my wife and I an internet addressable picture frame that she can send new photos of the babies to us! My younger daughter got us a gift certificate for one of our regular restaurants.

Yea, he was our morning laugh in the NY Radio market. everybody! I don’t care if it rains or freezes, long as I have my plastic Jesus mounted on the dashboard of my car...

Looks well broken in!

Good for you! Those of us who want to build a specific car can start with an old built up (which gives me more satisfaction than building a fresh kit) or a resin copy. The people who buy expensive OOP kits are collecting pretty boxes. The Coronet tooling is no doubt long gone. Probably was modified to the 1970 promo and kit. And that may be for the best since it was of that era’s detail level. Round 2 has later and better detail tools like the 68 Roadrunner, which a new Coronet kit could be based on, just like they did with the 1970 Coronet body.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
We will see! I thought the end of year would be quiet. Then I got a contract on my New Jersey house, so I’ve been there fixing everything I can that was on the previous buyer’s home inspection. The new buyer’s inspection is Saturday. So we are staying with my daughter since Christmas Eve. Then I get a call about an amazing job opportunity. I did a phone interview on Christmas Eve, and a possible Skype meeting tomorrow. Amazing how life just does it’s own thing! We will be here through Saturday since we were invited to a party then. So if I wind up back home on Sunday and next week, I’ll see if I can get the Trabbie done! -
Back in the days when I got up at 5am every day, I’d be up before the family, make a pot of coffee, and go manually sniping on eBay. Got some really good buys. I figured if a seller was dumb enough to have his auctions end at 6am on Christmas morning....

Johan 63 fury... preserve or modify?
Tom Geiger replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I see an old original that is either very well done for the era or has a certain charm, I’m all about preserving it as a survivor. Your car wasn’t terribly significant and you had already soaked it anyway. The Johan bodies were very well done, but short comings were the typical limited detail on chassis and engine bay of the era as well as the one piece interior tub only fit for very short drivers. You are better off combining the best of both worlds.. classic Johan body and modern Moebius ( or Lindberg Dodge) innards. -
That dash looks extremely easy to LHD, it’s symmetrical and nothing more than relocating the instrument pod. And if the console is reversed, I don’t think anyone would notice ( or handle it with a photo reduced photo)

Tom Geiger replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice project! Where did you get the tires and rims? -
Neat Steve! Quality not quantity!
