GMC square body plow
Tom Geiger replied to Scalper's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nope! I’d skip the bottom brace! And dontcha just love the big ejector pin mark in the center of the mirror?! -

I’ve been a BMF fan since I was introduced to it some 30 years ago. The 57 Ford I did then still looks good! I believe there has been several changes over the years probably due to supplier changes. Early on I could do just about anything! I was easily covering entire bumpers. I could do no wrong! Later on it wasn’t as cooperative.. maybe thicker but still workable. I’ve never encountered it not sticking. My experience has been sticking too well! As I tried to use it as a paint mask, it wouldn’t come off in one piece. Just made a mess picking off little bits, and leaving a lot of adhesive behind. Same lately on body panels.. coming off but leaving glue behind. My experience with sheets that got too old is that the foil will not come off the backing sheet without tearing.

I believe it! Plow and truck bought different times. Adds to the story! -

53 or 56 ford f100 pickup
Tom Geiger replied to MrMiles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
AMT 53 for sure! The only shortcoming for me is that the door panels are engraved onto the inside of the body. Easy enough to scratch some since the real truck has very limited detail on them anyway. An option I’ve used.. the kit grille is the high end one. By simply cutting away the “teeth” you’ve got the low end grille. Nearly nobody does that! -
My wife was concerned that I was going to work so I told her they really needed me today because it was my turn to work the receiving dock! ?

AMT ‘57 Chevy Cameo

I like it! -
Ha! Yes, I bought it from your junk box at the final NNL! Many years ago someone tried to trade me a black Volare.. I instantly recognized it as one I gave away to another guy years before!

Thanks guys! Back is a lot better today. Still taking heavy duty Tylenol, but got to work! I feared I’d have to call out! Garbage.. back in NJ the town had a contract with one trash hauler. Then they opted out and said you could hire anyone you wanted! We had trash wars! Companies knocking at your door looking for the business! The sad part.. they all collected on different days, so you’d get woke up 6 mornings a week!

Question: best way to mask interiors for painting?

We got yelled at about this in the town newsletter. We pay for our trash by the bag! They sell the township labeled black bags at the local supermarkets for $3 each. So there is a big incentive to recycle! We also pay an annual recycling fee to the town. Same vendor picks up both the trash and recycling every Tuesday.

1/25 AMT 1962 Buick Special Wagon Retrospective
Tom Geiger replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I never really thought about it, but Mark is right. I don't see this kit mint in box, but there are tons of old built ups around cheap. And they all seem to have been built with the custom parts. I don't think I've ever seen the stock tail lights on this kit! Here's the three I own. The top two I bought as you see them. The blue one still has it's original yarn interior but I redid the body. -
Why not chrome? A few reasons. First, there aren't many chrome services left. And because of that, turnaround is long. Second, on a truck like that, the grille isn't really "chrome". More like pressed aluminum.. maybe even silver plastic. Both of which would have different levels of shine. When I did the box art truck for the Model King / AMT 79 Ford Pickup, I didn't have gloss black to use under my Alclad. I improvised and used a spray Duplicolor deep blue metallic. Happy accident is that it showed through and left me with the shine that Ford truck bumpers actually have! Back when Modelhaus was doing chrome, they had outsourced it and they had a reject rate from the plater that made it more expensive to do.. I don't believe anyone is using the Molotow pen successfully for anything more than touchup. Some guys are spraying it through an airbrush. Others are doing the same with Alclad. Most don't know Alclad comes in a spray can. That's what I use.

then there are the guys who spray the entire interior flat black and are done with it! ? -
Pulled something in my back today. I was doing some chores and moved a box... now its painful to do just about anything. I have the computer on the kitchen island and I'm standing here leaning forward. I'll have to see how I do over night..

I like the Tamiya yellow tape. I will cover items with it and cut it in place like you’d do with foil.
