Very nice mashing job. Suggestion: Carve away some of the side trim and replace it with Plastruct, kinked and pulled away from the body in places. The trim wouldn't sit flush with the sheet metal everywhere it is smashed in.

Photo bucket: Class action suit?
Maindrian Pace replied to BigTallDad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On nearly all other boards, if you open most any older threads, including very informative build/instructional/antique picture etc threads that we seemingly all know of, you see a rash of that sickening speedometer extortion image. Photobucket has managed to scar the internet from one end to the other, and who could forgive them for that? My account still works as I am a paying member, but I don't use it anymore and I've already downloaded my photos from it. -
Very nice job, I don't know that I've ever seen another of these built. Monogram also made one in 1:24 scale. Theirs was a bit nicer and fit together more easily.

How did I miss this? Fantastic in every way. I restored a glue bomb in the '80s, it came out looking very similar to this.

eBay Scammer Afoot!
Maindrian Pace replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Used to see it all the time on ebay with real cars. Auctions like a pristine '69 Boss 429 Mustang for $8500 BIN, with the usual BS story; owner overseas on business, car in a different state, must use their shipper and prepay shipping, etc. I always reported them, they always got taken down in minutes, sometimes even seconds, and haven't seen that kind of scammage there for a long time. Anything for a buck. -
Bill, I have this kit, but admittedly I didn't look at the engine very closely. You're right, it's kind of a mish-mosh between Poly (A series) and B series, but slanting closer to the B. Why they didn't include the iconic 2nd carb is beyond me, probably the same reason they curved the side trim. The post was mainly to point out that the top engine option in '58 was the new B series, though the Poly soldiered on until 1967, IIRC.
-
The engine actually is correct for the car. The new 350 cubic inch Golden Commando was introduced in 1958, and was the top engine option in all Plymouths that year. This was the first incarnation of the B series engine, so they had the familiar shaped 383-440 valve covers, and the front mounted angled distributor. The poly series Dual Fury engine was standard on the '58 Fury.

Looks great with the trad wheels and tires. Those Foose body mods really flow. -

Very nice! -
I've been paying PB since 2013, when I used up my free bandwidth right here, on a particularly popular thread. I opted for their basic Plus 20 package, (22.5GB) which has been very solid and reliable. They charge me annually, 25 or 30 bucks a year. That $400/yr charge is for their top-end Plus 500 service - 502.5GB, which most of us here will never use a fraction of. So far, they haven't bugged me or held any of my pictures hostage.

Great project. I really need to build a model of my '93 Cobra, another back burner build.

You keep on knockin' but you can't come in!

The only US Fairmont wagons made were by Atlas in HO (1:87) scale. They offered several factory colors, and an unpainted version. I bought these two, should have bought them all because they are hard to find now. They also made a 4dr sedan. Both were also made in N scale, those are pretty nice, but very small.

How much alike are the .....
Maindrian Pace replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the 1:1 world, the spindles can be swapped, but little else. In the model world, parts can be swapped as the suspension looks about the same in scale. So if you are looking to make the suspension more correct, and the AMT kit offers a better looking setup, swap away. -
Scratch Building an Aussie Ford Falcon **New update,15/1/18**
Maindrian Pace replied to ShawnS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great to see work starting back up on this Falcon. The mock-up is very promising. -
That's really one of the nicest weathered models I've ever seen, on this board or anywhere else.
