  1. Oh! My mistake. The whole body was actually molded in white, frame was molded in black. Nothing was molded in red on this copy of the kit.
  2. Actually I used white inkjet printer decal film, and printed the colors over top. I let the ink dry for about 12 hours or so, then hit them with a coat of clear. There's a few spots where the color tried to come off, but I can live with it.
  3. I may take another crack at the Heller kit. It was pretty nicely detailed overall, but I think I'll redo the frame next time. The wheels and tires on it were so nice I kept them. I'll figure out another use. Still got a gluebombed Goober Wagon that I may have some fun with. Flat Ferrari 12 and tires from the 917?
  4. Looking great so far.
  5. The worst part of it was the rear end suspension/frame. It's a little fiddly and wants to pop apart. It didn't help that the chassis pan on mine was a little warped. Still would rather build a fleet of these than the Heller. Just wish it had the engine.
  6. Looks amazing! So many times I wish I had a 3D printer....
  7. Pretty much all of my Testors paints did this. I ended up chucking them all. I mostly use Tamiya and Duplicolor anymore, or if I buy Testors it gets used up quickly.
  8. Organize? *blink blink* It's not at all. Some are in boxes, and I've got 4 tubs and two bags of bagged kits (had to unbox from the last move thanks to our neighbors bringing roaches)
  9. I like it. Saw the concept a few months ago and thought it was sharp. No arguments from me!
  10. I've drilled out a few and taken some googly eyes the right diameter to make the reflectors. Just cut the back off the goog and toss the pellet. They come in all sizes. Just chrome it and throw on a lens .
  11. There's precisely one original decal from the Union kit. The sponsor decals on the driver's side showing Bosch, Firestone and Bilstein. The one I had printed rolled up and was unusable, so I pulled out the original sheet and clear coated them. Cut it out and soaked it, then kept tapping the back of it with more water with a q-tip, then carefully peeled it off the paper.
  12. This is the Fujimi Porsche 917K kit, the red one with white stripes, normally. I had previously gotten the Heller/Union kit, vut it was unbuildable (at the time), so I scrapped it and kept the decals. I wanted to do the Martini livery, so I broke the decals out for this one and after trying to use them, found they were so old they wouldn't come off the backing. I scanned the decals and re-drew them using Paint Shop Pro and printed them on Testors decal paper. I made the wings on the back from sheet styrene. It came out pretty good overall.
  13. Unfortunately, they were limited by the effects technology at the time, but I would have loved to see her pulling the combat role like that. It seems the only reason they killer her off was because the model wasn't up to movie detail and it was easier to just design a new ship.
  14. I always thought the D was kinda graceful looking. She's absolutely monstrously sized considering the amount of crew. If I had known what was going to happen on season 3 of Picard, I'd have been tempted to do the scorch marks on her prow.

    1853 F100

Was gonna say: I pictured an 1853 F150 with wagon wheels and mostly wood. Looks great, though.
  16. Looks awesome! Great job!
  17. This is the 1/1400 scale AMT Galaxy class Enterprise NCC-1701 D and a 3D printed model of the New Orleans class USS Kyushu. They're pretty close to the same scale, Kyushu is a little larger based on the bridge modules. The D is base coated in light ghost grey, everything else is hand painted except for the markings, which are the kit decals. The Kyushu was a really rough print in PLA and took a lot of sanding and filling. The bridge details and life boats were made from styrene and the aztec pattern was masked and sprayed. The deflector grid was drawn on with a mechanical pencil. PLA is tough stuff. I dropped the Kyushu right after it was done. Normally that's the death of a Star Trek kit, the nacelle pylons will snap. She landed flat on her ventral side and the nacelles just went BOING! and that was it.
  18. I'm down for the '39 Ford and the Chrysler 300. I've got the Galaxy class Enterprise, but I did the aztec pattern by hand. I'll have to post a pic with my New Orleans class.
  19. Lots and lots and lots of phone calls from insurance agents and insureds. I do agent/customer support for an insurance company. Don't think I'm ever gonna be able to retire, but at least I get to work from home and build for now.
  20. Saw a '67-68 Dodge Dart sitting on a trailer in Chilicothe today with for sale stuff written on it. They wanted $3500 as it sat. Looked like it was plenty salvageable.
  21. Hideous? The colors, not the car. I'd love to have the kit. Boy does it need paint.
  22. Good tip!! I use soda bottle caps for paint mixing. Found way back when that the old Evian water bottle caps will snap onto the lid of a soda bottle and can store paint for a long time. I saved a bunch before they switched caps.
