  1. I've been using a knock-off brand of chrome pens by a company called Flysea, getting them on Amazon for about $12 for a set of 3. They seem to dry quicker and be a little less touch sensitive than Molotow, plus MUCH cheaper. The sides of the bumpers on my 1959 Cadillac I posted recently were done with them. I still tend to do the chrome parts early on in the build and let them dry as long as possible just because.
  2. I'm not even completely sure where all mine came from. I've bought some, got some included with some kits. I've got a big drawer full and I haven't even been back into building cars all that long. I've got the front section that's just tires, and the back section is everything else.
  3. The tires were missing from this kit. I snagged a set from the AMT '49 Mercury that fit. I had other tires that'll fit the Merc.
  4. Surprisingly, the windshield was a pretty easy fit. It wasn't quite exact. I lopped off the pins on the inside of the roof and slid the glass forward until I was just at the edge of the top of it, then clamped into place and glued it. I may try to make a replacement for the Impala later from the caddy's original piece.
  5. I've made lenses from clear epoxy and Bondic both. Getting the Bondic cured is the hardest part. Best suggestion is to get a little UV lamp for finger nails.
  6. Pretty much all of my cans of Testors paints have done this. I've stopped buying them completely.
  7. This was a very nice kit to assemble. The windshield was broken when I got it, so I grabbed out the one from the 60 Impala kit. The paint is Duplicolor GM light blue over a base coat of Tamiya Coral Blue, and made it more of an aqua tone.
  8. I built this one some time ago and never posted it, so I dusted it off and got some shots. Everything opens: doors, hood and front cover, seats slide up and fold. The suspension is cast metal and screws onto the chassis. It was a fun kit, and I'd like to get the rest of the series someday.
  9. Looks fantastic! Everything's perfect, including the crew.
  10. There's such a thing as too many? I've been fortunate enough to be working from home since 2020 and I take incoming calls, so I get 8-9 hours a day of build time.
  11. One of the Mako Shark Corvettes (Mako Shark II?) I've got one in about the same condition.
  12. I've been using the Revell Aqua Colors for a while now. I get very good results and I've been slowly switching all of my Model Master Acryl to the Revell as I can. They have good coverage and seem to be very smooth paints.
  13. USS Defiant, 1/1000 scale. The banners and lettering are decals, but everything else is paint. Panel lines are done with a mechanical pencil. I'll have to get a picture of her next to the TOS and refit Enterprises to get the scale.
  14. This was a fun one. Most of the detail is in the tiny bit of interior barely visible through the window, but it does have a grill and a doner kebab sitting on the counter. The kit came with a cardboard knife to put on the grill, but I made a styrene one instead.
  15. Very nice job!
  16. At least the pig part.
  17. For Christmas from my family I got: Dan Gurney Lotus Indy Racer by AMT: AMT Dodge D-50: AMT 2017 50th Anniversary Camaro: And Monogram 1957 Corvette: (box is different):
  18. I painted the base color as a tan acrylic, then once dry gave it a wash of a very dark brown paying special attention to the seams. There was a little texture on the surface that seemed to pick up the wash well. I used the same technique on my 1932 Chrysler Convertible, but I did it with a more red tone. I've never posted that one, but I may put it up soon.
  19. Very nice!!
  20. Finished this one friday and I'm really proud of it. It's a LOT more complicated than the AMT kit. Engine is outstanding, frame is accurate and builds up from multiple pieces (X frame is 3-4 pieces by itself) and it has a 2-speed rear end. I'll post pics of the undercarriage later.
  21. Heller Porsche 917. Saying the parts fit is "vague" would be a compliment. There's absolutely no positive place for location on some of it, mostly the suspension. I ended up keeping the wheels and tires and threw the rest away. I bought a Fujimi kit to replace it.
