I'm sorry, it was PET, not PLA. Was just watching the new one today and caught my mistake. Sorry for the error.

Fujimi Enthusiast 1/24 Dino 246GTS Spyder
Deathgoblin replied to Justin Porter's topic in Model Cars
Very nice job! I love the color. -
What about the type of plastic? I've been watching a series of YouTube videos by PaulRestorer where he rebuilds old die-cast cars, and he uses PLA plastic for the clear parts in a vacuform machine. PLA is pretty tough stuff. I dropped a model of the USS Kyushu (Star Trek) that was PLA and it bounced.

Interior looks amazing!

I got to drive this one a few times when he had it. It had a surprising amount of power and rode like a cloud. These are really fun kits. They've got really good detail for a snapper but are pretty easy to build. I've got another one of the Impala SS in my stash.

I just finished this one. Revell Snap-together 1992 Caprice taxi/fire chief car. My dad had one just like it. He passed away right before Christmas 2021. I converted it to a civilian version. The wire hubcaps are made from the wheels off the Lindberg 1953 Ford Convertible. I thinned them down front to back and added strips around them to make the rim. The pinstripes down the sides are thin strips of masking tape painted white. I didn't know what his license plates were, so I made up a set for the correct state, and they read USAF GTE. He was a technical sergeant in the Air Force and worked 25+ years as a systems engineer for GTE.

Cutting/shaping model "glass"
Deathgoblin replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Masking the areas to be kept helps a lot. I've used a Zona saw or the back of an Xacto blade to do cuts on clear parts. You're right that clear parts are more breakable: the best advice I can offer is to work slowly. -
First post on this board. Just finished it today and I think it came out pretty decent. Before anyone mentions: the decals were missing when I started working on it, so I got a set of Slixx decals, but the smaller sponsor decals weren't included in the set. I cribbed some from some other NASCAR sets I had on hand. The GTE decal on the deck lid was misprinted with clear letters instead of white. I painted them in by hand.

Love the Bug. Did anyone make a Reliant Robin? I'd love to build a model of "Dick Turpin" from Good Omens. That and Crowley's Bentley 3.5 Liter.

I dig it! Following this one.

Revell Basic Acrylic Primer
Deathgoblin replied to rickybobby6969's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Haven't tried this yet. Their acrylic paints are awesome, though. Much better than the Testors Acryl line ever was. -
Just finished this one today. Paint is Duplicolor Medium Charcoal metallic The wheels were missing, so I used some spares from the parts box and bored the posts out a little so they fit on the spindles.

Awesome job on both!

Washi tape for seats . . .
Deathgoblin replied to Glassparman's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
That was me! The wood panels came out well. I worked it down like foil and it came out great. I'm interested in picking up some different patterns for interiors. -
"Aqua Marine" Interior Colours ?
Deathgoblin replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You might look into Citadel Miniatures paints. They have a wide range of colors. -
Went to Robbie's Hobbies today and picked up a couple of kits. Got a Revell Snap-Tite 1992 Chevy Caprice Taxi/Fire Chief car and a Revellogram Pro-Builder 1941 Ford Deluxe convertible. Both were sealed and shrink-wrapped, the box was a little crunched on one end of the Ford, but no damage to the kit.

3D printed wire wheels for Revell XKE
Deathgoblin replied to jacko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
How about these? I used a set on my XKE a couple of years ago: https://www.3dmodelparts.com/1-24-1-25-wire-wheels-15-inch-60-spoke/ -
Got this one done a couple of days ago. It was a salvaged gluebomb, originally an ugly grey-green color with a two tone blue interior. There's a couple of little things missing like the wipers for the headlights and the lenses for the driving lights in the bumper. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. It was missing a wheel, so I ordered some new ones.

I must recommend when working with the Bondo spot putty: for the love of all that's holy, wear a mask! I was working with this stuff and started developing a really BAD cough. I keep an inhaler, but that wasn't helping. It only went away when I stopped using it. It says on the packaging that it can cause silicosis. It works great, but wear a mask.
