  1. Looks awesome! Great job!
  2. This is the 1/1400 scale AMT Galaxy class Enterprise NCC-1701 D and a 3D printed model of the New Orleans class USS Kyushu. They're pretty close to the same scale, Kyushu is a little larger based on the bridge modules. The D is base coated in light ghost grey, everything else is hand painted except for the markings, which are the kit decals. The Kyushu was a really rough print in PLA and took a lot of sanding and filling. The bridge details and life boats were made from styrene and the aztec pattern was masked and sprayed. The deflector grid was drawn on with a mechanical pencil. PLA is tough stuff. I dropped the Kyushu right after it was done. Normally that's the death of a Star Trek kit, the nacelle pylons will snap. She landed flat on her ventral side and the nacelles just went BOING! and that was it.
  3. I'm down for the '39 Ford and the Chrysler 300. I've got the Galaxy class Enterprise, but I did the aztec pattern by hand. I'll have to post a pic with my New Orleans class.
  4. Lots and lots and lots of phone calls from insurance agents and insureds. I do agent/customer support for an insurance company. Don't think I'm ever gonna be able to retire, but at least I get to work from home and build for now.
  5. Saw a '67-68 Dodge Dart sitting on a trailer in Chilicothe today with for sale stuff written on it. They wanted $3500 as it sat. Looked like it was plenty salvageable.
  6. Hideous? The colors, not the car. I'd love to have the kit. Boy does it need paint.
  7. Good tip!! I use soda bottle caps for paint mixing. Found way back when that the old Evian water bottle caps will snap onto the lid of a soda bottle and can store paint for a long time. I saved a bunch before they switched caps.
  8. I've been using a knock-off brand of chrome pens by a company called Flysea, getting them on Amazon for about $12 for a set of 3. They seem to dry quicker and be a little less touch sensitive than Molotow, plus MUCH cheaper. The sides of the bumpers on my 1959 Cadillac I posted recently were done with them. I still tend to do the chrome parts early on in the build and let them dry as long as possible just because.
  9. I'm not even completely sure where all mine came from. I've bought some, got some included with some kits. I've got a big drawer full and I haven't even been back into building cars all that long. I've got the front section that's just tires, and the back section is everything else.
  10. The tires were missing from this kit. I snagged a set from the AMT '49 Mercury that fit. I had other tires that'll fit the Merc.
  11. Surprisingly, the windshield was a pretty easy fit. It wasn't quite exact. I lopped off the pins on the inside of the roof and slid the glass forward until I was just at the edge of the top of it, then clamped into place and glued it. I may try to make a replacement for the Impala later from the caddy's original piece.
  12. I've made lenses from clear epoxy and Bondic both. Getting the Bondic cured is the hardest part. Best suggestion is to get a little UV lamp for finger nails.
  13. Pretty much all of my cans of Testors paints have done this. I've stopped buying them completely.
  14. This was a very nice kit to assemble. The windshield was broken when I got it, so I grabbed out the one from the 60 Impala kit. The paint is Duplicolor GM light blue over a base coat of Tamiya Coral Blue, and made it more of an aqua tone.
  15. I built this one some time ago and never posted it, so I dusted it off and got some shots. Everything opens: doors, hood and front cover, seats slide up and fold. The suspension is cast metal and screws onto the chassis. It was a fun kit, and I'd like to get the rest of the series someday.
  16. Looks fantastic! Everything's perfect, including the crew.
  17. There's such a thing as too many? I've been fortunate enough to be working from home since 2020 and I take incoming calls, so I get 8-9 hours a day of build time.
  18. One of the Mako Shark Corvettes (Mako Shark II?) I've got one in about the same condition.
  19. I've been using the Revell Aqua Colors for a while now. I get very good results and I've been slowly switching all of my Model Master Acryl to the Revell as I can. They have good coverage and seem to be very smooth paints.
  20. USS Defiant, 1/1000 scale. The banners and lettering are decals, but everything else is paint. Panel lines are done with a mechanical pencil. I'll have to get a picture of her next to the TOS and refit Enterprises to get the scale.
  21. This was a fun one. Most of the detail is in the tiny bit of interior barely visible through the window, but it does have a grill and a doner kebab sitting on the counter. The kit came with a cardboard knife to put on the grill, but I made a styrene one instead.
