OK...I made it home alive. I only have one kidney. Some people just give one away. That is a big decision to make too.

http://smcbofphx.proboards.com/board/45/resin-casting Hi Gary, Here is a link to a lot of my work. Page 6 is my earliest entries. Read them all. I think all of my photos are still intact. Even with photos you might still go HUH?! You will need patience and some reasonably good equipment. For multiple reasons you should build or purchase a vacuum chamber and pump. You will need pressure pots and I have a thread about that too, the keepers and money/time wasters. I try to stay with SMOOTH - ON products. I can drive to the store located in Tempe, AZ and buy fresh off the shelf. Making things like taillights can be a real PITA. I have been using their 325, but they sell a TASK 9 to make these parts too. I use TASK 8 for most parts. I use POLYTEK PT FLEX 70 to make tires too. How you clay up a part is important. Most of what I do is from two piece molds. Use the right clay and make it tight. Get good measuring cups, small beakers are the best. STARBUCKS has the best stirrers for mixing resin and silicone. For most everyone they stir coffee once and get tossed, for me it is a tool to keep clean and free of resin buildup. Mike Schnur can attest to my going crazy over a stirring stick. You will need alcohol to keep tools clean. I use lots of TP and paper towels. Get a good air compressor. BE SAFE! While this forum gets no real posting activity, it has a lot of visits. Today it says over 100. While some would say I am giving away casting secrets, I will say I am helping a modeler hopefully get parts that are worth the money and buildable. Companies post there own video and pictures to aid with success of its use. Greg Wann

WOW! Great job.

I love Buicks too. Hey Geno, let me know when you are ready. I make some resin marker lights that will really make your build POP! Get a Model Car Garage photo etch set too. They small and fiddly like a PE part. If you drop one good luck finding it. LOL They are easy to install too. Only remove the area of the body that makes the shape of the lens. Then carefully sand down the flange to the bodies surface. Use BMF or a chrome pen on the marker lights edge and use just a tiny bit of glue from the inside of the body. Here is a link to more photos on another forum. http://smcbofphx.proboards.com/thread/750/1970-buick-gsx-marker-lights

Nail polish is great stuff. Lots of beautiful colors and textures too. I have airbrushed nail polish with great success. There are Sally Beauty supply stores all over the valley here. They sell small bottles of nail polish thinner for air brushing purposes. I don't really understand why the big box stores don't sell the thinner. They sell remover and I found out the hard way there is a difference. Buying small bottles of thinner keeps you from having to buy gallons of the stuff. I admit, I really don't know much about painting, I just wing it. Now that I do the resin casting I have not built and painted anything in years. I probably have a half dozen started projects. Welcome aboard Lisa. It is nice to know there are females that have an interest in this hobby. Model building is not gender specific. There isn't much in the world anymore that is. My good friend Jennifer is a HVAC mechanic where I work. She may not always have the physical strength to manhandle equipment but she still has the know how to do the work and gets help. She gets respect. When I worked at Purdue University, there were women working in most all the trades. The only shop that did not have a woman was the welding/sheet metal shop. I don't think saying welcome darlin is at all disrespectful. You can call me darlin, It is much nicer than some of the names I have been called. The lady at the Mcdonalds drive up window calls me all kinds of sweet names, I think she loves me. https://www.makeyourownmolds.com/shop/copyflex/ I notice behind the model you intend to build is a gingerbread type house that you may have made. Here is a link to a food grade silicone you can use to make molds and then create your own candy shapes. I thought this might be of interest to you. Perhaps you and your son would enjoy doing this kind of thing together.

With a fresh bottle of clear resin and a new bottle of red dye, I made these yesterday. TASK 9 can also be used to make parts like this. These are made from 325. -

OK....It has been awhile. All of the parts molds are made except the flat hood and it is nearly complete. I had Mike straighten out the master hood and clay it up. Mike has the eyes and knowledge to know how to make it look like it is supposed to. The master hood is quite thin too. -
Hi Dwayne good to know you are better. Me, not so much. On January 3rd, I am scheduled to remove my right kidney. A year ago in October, I had a piece removed but now a growth is on it again. Mike came over yesterday and we worked on parts. I think the last Nova part to make a mold of is the interior tub. Then the kits can start being made.

https://www.makeyourownmolds.com/shop/copyflex/ I found this food grade silicone that is actually useable. Just in case you or a significant other has thought about making candy molds this is a great product. I typically use SMOOTH - ON products from Reynolds Advanced Materials because I can drive to the store in Tempe and buy it fresh off the shelf. If you have one of these stores near you, I encourage you to go check it out. Sign up for one of their seminars too. You might learn to do something fun and make extra money even if it just making molds for people. They do sell food grade silicones that are very thick and nearly impossible to get bubble free even under 70 PSI and then to a vacuum chamber. They are terrible products.

Dwayne and Mike will have to answer that question.

I am excited too! I made the first body today. It came out very nice. A name and a good mailing address will get a list started. Most purchase with Paypal and a mailing address does not always show up with the payment notification. I don't know why but it is very irritating that it is not always there. I have mostly mastered the post office kiosk but the Youngtown PO does not have one. I have used the Tempe PO after work. Getting anywhere in Tempe after 5 is a real PITA! Getting home to Sun City is too. Of course, this one will go to Dwayne. Greg mastercaster1@cox.net

Back to work on this project after being away for a few days in the Lafayette, Indiana area. My wife flew her parents back with us to visit family on her side. We did Thanksgiving. We did repairs on a couple of houses we own and got someone to rent the house. Also went to my parents estate sale. It was a bit depressing seeing their belongings being sold on a farm auction. My parents collected lots of stuff including glassware items. My brother told me and I did not know this but people were buying boxes of stuff for a couple of bucks, taking what they really wanted and putting unwanted items in a dumpster on site. That was the really sad part. Some items went for a surprising amount of money. I took what I wanted when I had the chance. So, here is the Nova body, seat and dash molds in progress.

Hi All, Here is the first set out of the second mold that Mike made. You did a great job, Mike. Now we need to finish the mold that makes the taillight.
