  1. What I mean is that when the hood is open, you can see the back side of the headlight buckets, but there are no wires going to the headlight bulbs.
  2. Those are all very nice! Great underhood detail, but I would add the headlight wires on the Renault.
  3. Now that is a clever idea. I just might have to get me one of those.
  4. It's just been revived. This is the first one of the revival. Ads for it were running in the magazine for months beforehand, so you should have seen them.
  5. I used the information given to me by Mark Gustafson. In his writeup your name is spelled Sargis. I don't have the time to proofread everything, material submitted to me should have been proofed by the person submitting the material. This is copied directly from the Word file he sent. Twelfth Michael Sargis 346 Scaglietti And, then there is the builder who combines some traditional custom car styling elements and an instinct to clean up the styling on a contemporary car. Ryan is such an enthusiast... Mark spelled your name wrong, I had no way of knowing that. But the "Ryan" part is my fault... I should have caught that.
  6. Because we get more contests submitted than we can fit into the issue. Something has to give, we just don't have the room to include all the contests we receive. Unfortunately yours was one of the ones that we couldn't fit in.
  7. Very nice all around. Just curious, though... why is the radiator offset and not centered?
  8. Yes, amazing that you still have them after all these years. None of my childhood models survive to this day.
  9. Wow! That looks great! Very nice work.
  10. Sorry, guys, but I see no good reason to leave this open any longer. Pretty much all sides have had their say... let's move on to other topics.
  11. Judging from the open hood photo, the air cleaner looks to be low enough not to be the problem. Either the hood or the body's front fenders are warped, or both.
  12. It's really coming together now. That paint looks fantastic. Nice job.
  13. Very nice. But why the gaps in the foil on the front end? That thin trim should be continuous across the hood and the front edges of the fenders. Even at this point it's an easy fix.
  14. I had an interest in cars from very early on. Whenever my parents and I would go somewhere, I constantly asked my dad "what kind of car is that?" He had no particular interest in cars, but he had to learn how to ID cars on the road because of my constant questioning. Then one Christmas I got a large scale battery powered hot rod made by Marx. It was probably around 1/8 scale. I remember "detailing" it by painting the interior, wiring the engine, etc... even though it wasn't a kit, but came completely assembled. Working on that Marx toy got me wanting to build a model, so the next Christmas I got the (then new) Monogram 1/8 scale Jaguar XKE kit. When I opened that box I was in heaven, even though I had never built a model kit before. My dad and I worked on that kit for several days... well, mostly my dad did the building and I watched. He didn't use any paint, just glued the kit together straight as it came out of the box. That Jaguar was my prize possession, and I started buying model kits with my allowance money. I was always more interested in the building part, not necessarily the subject matter... so I built a little of everything... cars, trucks, ships, planes, tanks, the Visible Man, the Visible Frog, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc. As I grew into my teenage years my model building interests became more and more focused on cars... specifically drag cars, funny cars, rails, hot rods, etc. Then I took the obligatory "girls, dating, marriage" break from the hobby for many years; returned to building in my 30s, and am still at it. I still build mostly cars, but still also build a wide variety of subjects.
  15. What is that fourth pulley on the drive belt that looks like it's not connected to anything?
  16. Yes, there are multiple answers, depending on how you see the question. I see it as the ultimate philosophical question... as in, what is the point of life itself? Why does it exist? Why am I a part of it? Why do we all have a short length of time here, and what is the point of having that time? It can get very complicated if you think about it long enough.
  17. For me there is one basic philosophical question; Why am I here? Everything else sort of branches out from that one simple, basic question.
  18. I'm not sure which "diss" in Under Glass you're talking about, but no, I can't be positive about something I see as inadequate. That's dishonest and doesn't help the builder become a better modeler. What am I supposed to say? "Hey, great job getting that hood to fit so poorly!" I don't give false praise. But I also don't go out of my way to slam anyone's work just for the sake of being mean. And I don't comment on every model I look at here. In fact, I only comment on a tiny minority of all I see here. If I see an obvious mistake or something the builder can go back and improve on, like, say, adding a black wash to the grille, for example...I will mention it. And if I see something that really wows me, I'll say that, too. In fact, many of the models that have appeared in past issues of the magazine were models I saw here on the forum, and was so impressed with, that I contacted the builder and asked if we could feature his model in print. So no, I don't only criticize. In fact, I would bet that my total positive comments outnumber my negative ones by a wide margin. But you have only read a small number of my posts and don't have the overall "big picture."
  19. Incredibly lifelike dio photos that lack life. While he is obviously very good at what he does, there are never any people in his shots. There are cars "driving" down the street with nobody inside! The lack pf people gives his photos sort of an eerie, "ghost town" quality. Of course , in some of his setups it's perfectly believable that there would not necessarily be any people in the shots... but in others the lack of people looks odd.
  20. If you are sick going into this health care system of ours, you'll be twice as sick trying to make sense of it and use it. It's pathetic how health care works in this country. I had no idea how bad it actually is... I figured all the "talking heads" on TV were just being dramatic. Turns out it's even worse that they portray it. Of course, once you understand how things work, it's a lot easier to make your way around. But as a total newcomer to our health care system, I am pretty overwhelmed by it.
