I like that color Blair.

Congratulations to you and your wife Andre. I'm sure you will be very happy in your own, new home. Have fun making that basement into your own hobby space.

Yeah, I go along with the waking up thing too. Every day that I open my eyes is a good day. I too am also pleased when I win an EBAY auction for a good, cheap price without getting sniped in the last 5 seconds.

What did you see on the road today?
Ramfins59 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
2 very cool looking cars drove by my house today...... a Turquoise & White '57 Chevy BelAir and a Maroon '60 Buick. -
I'm one of those people who likes to add a bunch of little extra details to my models. To me it makes them look a lot better and more realistic. To me once you've done it on a couple of models it gets easier to do although it does add to the amount of time it takes to finish the model. It just depends on "how crazy you want to get" with adding details, and your individual skill and patience level. For instance, building a model without engine wiring and other detailing makes the engine compartment look so bare and empty. I find it fun to add the details but I also try to do it accurately and realistically by using googled reference pictures to go by.

Automotive Themed rooms
Ramfins59 replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a restaurant/bar here in Cranberry called Quaker Steak and Lube (I think it might be part of a chain of eateries). The entire place is automotive themed right down to the gas pump nozzle door handles on the front door. There are cars and motorcycles either hanging from the ceiling or mounted on platforms (I think the bodies are only the shells). There are wheels, hubcaps, headlights, taillights, steering wheels, etc., decorating the walls. Even the menu has automotive titled dishes to serve. It's the only place I've found around this area that will serve you a rare burger if you want it that way. It's a fun place with lots to look at while you're waiting for your food. -
That is a beautiful model Emmanuel.

I'll only spend on the hobby after all the household bills and my mandatory "squirrel some away" fund is taken care of. I have more than enough kits, promos and builtups in the TO DO pile to last me a long time. I'll buy some newly issued kits that appeal to me now and then, but not nearly as many as I used to. I do see a lot of stuff on EBAY that I would love to get, but after "watching" the prices on those items go up and up I just let them pass.
-
Not bad John. I have one of these kits and some day I'm gonna try making a model of Dave Dickash's hotrod.
-
Nice stuff Harry. You did fantastic work on all of them.
-
I look forward to seeing this one Ray. I've got one of these in my TO DO pile also.
-
Sincere condolences to you Kerry.
-
I also remember him from the old TV show Maverick.

Yep... I'm blown away by the fabulous work that went into this model Alyn. You did an absolutely incredible job. My hat is off to you sir.

I've built several models for people but only charged someone for building one of them. I built a '67 Vette convertible for my son-in-law as a birthday present. " " " '65 Rambler American as a replica of an old High School friend's 1:1 car -- no charge, but he supplied the model and the paint. " " " '57 Ford Station Wagon from a diecast Sedan Delivery for another good, old friend's first car -- no charge, but he paid for the model, assorted parts and postage. " " " '67 Caddy as a surprise gift for my younger brother to replicate the car that he once owned. " " " '56 Ford Fairlane as a dead nuts replica of a guy's car who I knew from Cruise Nights. I replicated his car right down to the pine tree air freshener hanging from the radio knob. He paid me $200 for it.

That is an absolutely beautiful model Tulio.

That's very nice Harry. I guess you've finished all of your summer fix-it chores since you're building models again?
-
That looks great John. But it's not a Mopar...... did you build this one by mistake..?? LOL.
-
That looks really good Ray. It sometimes seems that the windows in Modelhaus kits can be troublesome, first of all to cut the vacu-formed glass to the exact size, and also getting the dashboards/interiors to fit properly once the glass is in.
-
Peter, those are great looking cars so far. I love the color on the DeSoto.

Allow me to wish a very happy, healthy and safe Independence Day Holiday to all my fellow modelers.

I had a Hofner Bass for many years until disaster struck it. I bought one (right handed) with a cut out on the body back in 1966 for $365 with a hardshell case. I played it for years and it was as light as a feather, unlike the Precision Bass I have now. I was jamming with a friend who played keyboards one day and when we took a break, I leaned the Hofner against the piano bench. The guitar fell on the floor and the neck broke right off of the body as it was glued on, not bolted. I had tried getting it fixed at a guitar repair shop but the action was never the same. The strings were about a half inch or more above the fretboard where it joined the body and no amount of adjusting was ever able to lower the strings any closer to the fretboard. I wound up getting my P-Bass after that and eventually canned the Hofner. I do miss it.

That's a picture worth framing Peter.
