  1. Great job Bill, glad you finally finished it.
  2. That's looking great so far John.
  3. Hey John...... Congratulations on your awards. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the show...... Maybe next year.
  4. I have better results with only one project at a time.
  5. Great tips Rob and thanks for posting them. Another "tip" that I got a long time ago from a dear, departed modeling friend was... Location......Location......Location. If at all possible, try placing your model on the table where it will be seen clearly...... But not too close to the edge of the table. A good spot is at the end of the table by the corner. That way neither the judges nor the spectators have to strain and/or crane their necks over other models to clearly see yours and/or take any pictures. If you have totally detailed the underside of your model, then by all means display it on one of those angled mirror display stands which are only slightly larger than the model and don't hog up precious table space. If your list of details and modifications won't fit in the usually small space allotted for it on the contest entry form, then either neatly print them on an index card, or better yet, print them from your home computer, and clip it to the entry form for your model. The best tip of all is to not get discouraged if you don't win. Look closely at the models that did win, and then build your next model at that level if you are serious about continuing to enter into competition at contests.
  6. Steven, you're hitting another home run with your interior again. You must have the patience of a Saint to do all that masking and painting.
  7. Welcome to our plastic playground Karl.
  8. Welcome to our plastic playground Franz. Some people follow the directions step by step. Advanced, experienced builders will jump around to different assemblies based on the type of vehicle they are working on, and whether or not they are modifying it in any way. Do what is "comfortable" for you. As your skills and techniques get better, you'll find the way that is easiest for you.
  9. Welcome to our plastic playground Greg.
  10. Looking good Al. I agree with Tom about the bumpers. I've got one of these Craftsman kits "in the pile" to be worked on eventually too.
  11. For me, keyholes are way too small to try foiling after painting as are scripts. I use Steven's method of foiling before paint, or, carefully paint the keyholes with chrome silver paint on the end of a toothpick after painting. The MCG PE keyholes are great if you can get them. The Galaxie Chevy kits come with some nice keyholes on the sheet of chrome trim too.
  12. Nice work Nick. I look forward to seeing more...
  13. With all of the hoopla and hype and so many people jumping right into building the new '29 Ford kit (I haven't started mine yet), I was wondering if anyone has started in on the new '47 Chevy Coupe kit from Galaxie...??? I started working on mine yesterday by sanding the faint mold lines and doing some minor dechroming (door locks, trunk lettering, drip rails, smoothed the hood). My plan is to build a mild Custom (frenched head & taillights, skirts, ribbed bumpers & Sombrero caps from the chopped '48 Ford kit). I'd love to give it a chopped top, but my skills are not up to that task) It would be great to see some enterprising resin aftermarketer come out with a chopped top body). I'll post some pictures when I have a bit more progress to show.
  14. Great save Al...... another job well done.
  15. Great job John. I love the colors and the scallops.
  16. Welcome to our plastic playground Denny. Like Sam said, you'll like it here. There are lots of us "old guys" here...... I'm 68 and had started building model cars back in the late 50's & early 60's. I stopped when I discovered cars, bars and girls and rediscovered the hobby back in the early 90's.
  17. That paint doesn't look like it needs any polishing...... great job.
  18. OK, I just tried again...... I missed the 10 people because of dinner, and there were only 2 in there this time...... and still no one was saying anything...... is it just me??...... I swear I don't smell...!!!
  19. I just went into the Chat Room for the first time because I saw there were 2 people in there. I said "Good evening"...... crickets...... I said "Nobody talking?"....... crickets...... Not very exciting, so I left...
  20. There is a strong chance that I'll be going to this show for the first time.
  21. Great work Dale, you really nailed that Black paint job.
  22. When you build this kit, be prepared to make your own inner door panels because what is molded on the inside of the cab doors is so faint that you can barely see it, and it doesn't look good at all even if you attempt to detail it.... there is no 3D detail.
  23. Welcome to our plastic playground Craig.
  24. Oh yeah... I've been to Bayshore Hobbies... You can't get to the models that are stacked so high that you're afraid to touch them. Bob won't budge off of his stool behind the counter to help you find anything either. We (in the LIARS Club) used to call the place "Robber Bob's" because his prices are on the steep side.
  25. Great job Drew... I can't wait to start in on mine.
