Question on Revell 68 Mustang GT kit..85-4215
freakshow12 replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have started to fix one of mine. I filled the hole in the gas tank, trimmed the tabs off that mount the rear end to the frame rails. I am just fixing the very obvious stuff and I should look ok. I find the bumpers toylike as well. And no the hood will not easily fit well on amt offerings -
Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.

That looks awesome!! Door handles should be black as well. I can't wait to get a couple of these. I just can't bring myself to do anything with the box of kits I have until I get this body -
No biggie. These cars were thrown together so fast in 69 that they are sort of a red headed stepchild. Most people don't even know they exist lol
-
The mustang got the boss 429. It was a crazy time when the aero wars started Mercury on the other hand had time to play with the special versions
-
The ford program happened so fast because the wing cars were kicking butt that ford didn't play with special versions for street models. They built a quick aero pkg on the cheap to please NASCAR. That's why they were all the same and no options. While this was happening ford needed to build street cars to get the boss 9 legal to go in said Torino. Since mustangs way outsold muscle torinos

Incorrect. Both were cyclones. And black was not a talladega color
-
The gurney car was a cyclone spoiler. And there was one talladega that was not presidential blue, royal maroon or white. It was built for bunkie Knudsen. It was yellow with white bucket seat interior with console shifted auto and air conditioning. I have a few articles on it and will be replicating that particular car

Question on Revell 68 Mustang GT kit..85-4215
freakshow12 replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Correct. It's all in there. A 3 in one lol. Too bad it is so die cast like. I can't bring myself to build it that way and I have a few. I will be correcting one over the winter hopefully -
Getting closer. Had to work an extra 24 hrs on the weekend so I've been on 12 days of 12s. Got the rear end put together. It's very close guys

That is spectacular!!

You are doing a fantastic job on this! I would like to point out one thing. The cam covers and supercharger should be no more glossy that the hoses and rad. I own 2 of these beasts 07,14 and my 07 right from new was more of a matte finish.
-
Now that the new cuda Is out will you be using that one?
-
Yes they are. I agree the rears could be a little deeper. They give you smaller and larger tires to compensate. The rear tires are too big and they look like they belong on a truck lol. What I did was dig in the stash and use what would be 4 of the provided front tires. So while not ideal they do look good on there.

Not sure that's 100% it. But it makes me glad I got my 14 GT500 when I did! Last of the big hp mustangs. -
Glad you like it. I will iron out the bugs and keep it moving

Welcome Dan. Good to see another Canuk in the house

After much messing with tire sizes I have settled on these. These cars have large wheel openings on the front and they look funny with any of the smaller tires I tried on these rims. These btw are the foose wheels from the 67 R/T kit. The red centres will have the factory Torino center cap applied. This will also be the stance if you guys want to go with what I have done here.
-
Ok guys, I got the foose magnums detailed out and they are beautiful. I am just making some tire adjustments for you guys to choose from. I have pics but they won't go from my phone here at work. This thing is coming along nicely and should be off my bench before the week is out
-
Did you widen it in the middle? Looks like the character line on rear edge of roof is faint and missing on trunk. To save the cowl vent you added on the outside edges?
-
I have seen customs In 1:1 that appear to have this problem. Cadzilla comes to mind. It though has the chrome trim to hide it. Here is my thought, lightly scribe around the whole perimeter of the skirt. Givebit a slightly darker wash and BAM! looks like whole unit can be removed without taking away from those sweet lines...
-
Well I was playing with this last night and I was using the magnum 500 ish set of resin rims but I had a change of mind. I bought a foose 67 cornet rt the other day. It has the best looking set of big magnum 500s I have seen. They are chrome but I will detail one up and let you guys see them. In my mind they will be perfect. The look we want while not looking too much like a full on pro touring car. Let me get one done this weekend and I will let the group decide

Bare Metal Foil.
freakshow12 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A black wash does wonders for that very thing. That's how I do that part. I hate vent windows so usually any build that is anything but a bone stock subject the disappear. Amazing how that small mod can change how a vehicle looks -
Bare Metal Foil.
freakshow12 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's exactally how I do them. One piece then I relief cut the middle and work it all around. I also study the trim on whatever car I am doing and make my joins or overlaps where the 1:1 pieces join or overlap wherever possible
