  1. I seem to remember a Japanese company making a 1/35th scale kit of one quite a number of years back that may have had a number of figures with it.
  2. Nice project taking shape here.
  3. Very intricate. Looks like you will have some fun and games painting all that in situ engine detail !
  4. MCM besides Auto Modeler the new kid on the block Stateside also has a British quarterly competitor, Model Car, Truck and Motorcycle Magazine that has been running for a couple of years now. I also understand that there is also a Stateside Truck Model magazine that has been going for a while too. All relatively new challengers to MCM since the demise of Scale Auto and Model Car Builder. Hopefully MCM will get itself back on track soon or it might start to lose market share if it has not done so already.
  5. Last edition was in August 2024 ? That's over 5 months ago. Subscribers would appear to have the patience and karma of Trappist Monks.I I do hope the magazine gets itself on track, especially as there is another new auto modelling magazine now on stream.
  6. 12 months divided by 6 months equals 2 months. That's the arithmetic ! Or am I complicating things ? LOL
  7. Mail order a Tamiya Translucent colour named 'Smoke' and relevant Tamiya thinners. You can air brush it and build up the density depending on the number of coats. Incidentally, it is also good for toning down the brightness of kit chrome to a more realistic appearance as well as giving it a protective coat, as not all modellers want to go down the strip the chrome and use Alclad or whatever route.
  8. I believe that all the old SAM forum posts and gallery were deleted when the magazine ceased production back in the Kalmbach days.
  9. Has anyone attempted to build the 'Juggernaut' tanker rig featured in the first Death Race film ? Would like to see anyone's completed model of that vehicle on here. Does anyone know who actually built the film vehicle, and if there are any plans available. The tractor unit looks like a Peterbilt 359 to me, but what was the trailer modified from originally, or is it a bespoke build specifically made for the movie ?
  10. Pete has made an important point about ensuring surfaces are clean an grease tree as part of the procedure, and not applying it onto a painted surface. I omitted to mention these things in my last post when suggesting that surfaces should be keyed for better adhesion when using epoxy.
  11. It you know the actual colour, some car body shop paint specialists are able to make matching paint aerosols.
  12. Ye Gods ! What a discussion ! Very interesting points of view made by all contributors. Fact is, most of us do not have access to or can afford very high performance industrial epoxy adhesives, and whilst there is no argument from me about how good they are, they are an irrelevance to probably over 95 percent of us. As I said in my earlier post I have used proprietary big name brands and store brands without any problems. If the surfaces to be stuck are shiny, I always 'key' the surfaces with some abrasive paper or make scratches on them with a craft knife or scriber to enable a better bond. Epoxy it has to be remembered is a surface adhesive. It does not weld parts together like plastic cement does when used in polystyrene for example. That is why keying the surfaces to be glued with epoxy adhesive is important. As for ease of use that one poster mentioned. Well, the fact that two parts having to be mixed together first can be a bit tricky for many. Some people get good at it and others get sticky fingers ! Cannot suggest anything to overcome this except that it gets better with practice. Invariably I get the stuff on my hands accidentally when I forget to move the piece of card or whatever I have been mixing it on well out of the way and come into contact with it without realising. You would have thought that I would have learned by now having used the stuff for years !
  13. I have had no trouble with 2 part epoxy adhesives over the years regardless of whether slow or fast setting, proprietary or store brands. Preparation of the parts to be glued I find is generally the key to a good bond. I have used proprietary brands like Devcon, Araldite etc. Found them to be no better than store's own brands from my own experience for the sort of stuff we use it for as model makers. My guess is that there are just a few companies with the expertise and geared up to make this type of adhesive and reckon that the store brands in all probability are made by those big companies. Bill mentioned grades that are specifically formulated and made for industry, but those products would not be generally available to Joe Public, so I have no experience of how they perform. I just wish that there was a syringe type made with precision nozzles for application of very small even amounts. The ones I have used need a cut made to unseal them, but the diameter of the holes exposed are generally a bit too big for precise application of very small mix quantities.
  14. We have managed to get this far with no mention of the now iconic James Bond Aston Martin DB5 ??? Or the Aston Martin Vantage in the Timothy Dalton Bond movies. A more brutal Bond car than the DB5. Unfortunately the use of BMW cars in the Brosnan Bond films didn't cut it for me.
  15. All of the Scale Auto Forum and gallery were deleted when the magazine ceased publication a few years back. I think that Kalmbach were selling CD roms with all the back issues on them. Kalmbach Publishing Company has been sold on including any titles they printed like Fine Scale Modeler.
  16. In the grand scheme of things all the expensive cars that were lost become insignificant. The most precious thing to be saved was people's lives under these circumstances ! It is also very regrettable though that family memorabilia like photographs and so on once lost are irretrieveable.
  17. Interesting post Rob, mentioning a number of those old truck and car movies that tend to get forgotten about. As well as Haken's reference about having info to share on trucks in more memorable movies and TV series. Thanks to those guys who further complimented my own build, that now in hindsight is proportionally incorrect, but at least I think I got the feel of the subject way back in the 80's when I had a go at making this model. With the advent of much more information on the subject and Haken's kind offer to share information about it will enable model makers to replicate the vehicle much better than I have done. The Juggernaut from Death Race looks a bit interesting. Anyone done that one ?
  18. Had another look today. This will be really interesting to see when completed.
  19. Cool project Bill. I have a Pyro Auburn Speedster and this thread is giving me some ideas !
  20. Nice looking car and nice model modification too ! I think that I read somewhere that the bodies for these were made at the Pressed Steel Fisher works in Oxford UK. Anyone remember when Roger Moore played Simon Templar 'The Saint' driving one in the old UK tv series ? The car was white, with the registration number plate ST1.
  21. A mean machine if ever there was one. Nice work Brian. Is it the Burago 1/18th die cast used as the donor model? Great thing about an old kit or model, you can let your imagination run wild !
  22. Not a die cast but there was a trader at IPMS UK Scale Modelworld at Telford last year selling 3D printed kits of this subject in 1/24th scale.
