Pics from IPMS Show in Fairmont MN
Bugatti Fan replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Contests and Shows
Interesting feedback guys. At local level it seems that there is much to be desired judging automotive model wise as IPMS is a general modelling society and most of their membership are into aircraft and military stuff. At local shows sometimes people get roped into judging and therein lies one of the problems. At their Nationals of course the situation is different having more experienced judges in each subject, automotive included. Auto modelling is better followed in the USA with dedicated clubs and shows. I wish we had similar here in the UK. -
Very nice technical illustrations of the cars. I particularly liked the Cobra Tee Shiirt design with the white stripes on the blue as often seen on the car.

What talented work.

Lovely artwork. Really like the effective use of washes in the paintings.

What were your gripes about the show Steve? You said you would not be going back, but it looked ok to me going by the photographs and you got a couple of awards from it. -
Nice to see some newly tooled kits of this classic Ford A that have not been rodded.

Search engine not precise enough.

Thanks for the further feed back Les and Pete. I will try using quotes as suggested and other things to try. -
It's one thing allowing pictures that are your copyright to be used and shared on forums like this according to the terms and conditions. The copyright as far as I can see always will belong to the creator unless he or she sells the copyright. Terms and conditions of websites normally state that they are permitted to be able to use the pictures how they see fit but without it being an outright copyright grab. But does it cross the line legally when someone simply copies your pictures from a website and then attempts to sell a creator's work on for financial gain without either the website it was copied from or the photographer's knowledge or permission? I agree that this is a real problem because it is so simple to download pictures that it can be like the Wild West when unscrupulous individuals start using them to sell on for gain. Almost impossible to police unfortunately. To be fair, I guess that most of us have downloaded pictures purely for personal reference and there is nothing wrong with that.

Trumpeter Ford GT40 with my twists
Bugatti Fan replied to kensar's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
As I understand it, CMA will be offering the GT 40 as a kit too, but will most likely also be prohibitively expensive. I mentioned being surprised that MFH have not done it in 1/12th scale. But actually, I think that Tamiya would do well with this subject if they tackled it. Going bigger Agora or maybe the new Pocher (under Hornby) might come up with one in 1/8th scale. Who knows? Wishful thinking perhaps! -

Interesting build to follow. You would have thought that Trumpeter would have gone to great pains to get a prestige kit like this correct. It's not as though there are no prototype cars in existence to do the research. Marshall Buck at CMA (Creative Miniature Associates) has been developing the ultimate GT40 kit that seems to have been going on for ages. CMA's ethic is do it right or not do it at all. Looking on the CMA website the development of their multi medium kit looks absolutely breathtaking. Mind you it will be at a premium price, and I mean premium, I guess when it finally gets released. The GT40 is such an iconic Le Mans car that actually I am surprised that MFH has not done one in 1/12th scale already. -
Search engine not precise enough.
Bugatti Fan replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in How To Use This Board
Pretty much what I guessed Pete. What I typed in was Ferrari Daytona as a phrase. Not Ferrari or Daytona as separate individual searches. Search engines appear to just randomly find each and every single instance of a word even when used within a phrase like Ferrari Daytona. What I would like to know is if there is a way of isolating the phrase for search purposes? Seems like search engines are a bit dumb in that respect. Maybe some techie reading this might have an answer? -
The search engine is not precise enough when looking for something specific. For example I wanted to search for any Ferrari Daytona threads. What did I get? Every instance the word Ferrari was found and every instance the word Daytona was found. Literally thousands of irrelevant posts put up to wade through. Is there a way to refine this or not? I just gave up in frustration.

What do you use for chrome? Show your work.

C1 polishing powder works well over gloss black for the best effect. It is quite durable when handled afterwards compared to other chromes. Used over other gloss colours will yield different effects. -

Did you get to finish this model Perry? Your thread only goes so far with the build. -

What was your first model car?
Bugatti Fan replied to Kit Karson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A 1/32nd scale Airfix Bentley Blower way back I think in the late 50's early 60's. They have flogged this old kit with its solid wire wheels to death over the years as re releases. Funny thing is though, Airfix got the radiator winged B badge in the correct position on this ancient kit, but cocked up badly on their big 1/12th scale Blower despite having access to the actual car. The big one has been re released a number of times without this glaring error ever being corrected, but oddly enough somewhere down the line they took the time and trouble to change the number plate! The newer number plate is on a car that is owned by Bentley Motors, so possibly it may have had to be changed due to a licencing issue? Ralph Lauren owns the blower with the original plate that Airfix had on the model. His car was previously owned by Tony Bamford the boss of JCB. It was whilst in the hands of its further previous owner Neil Corner that Airfix produced the 1/12th scale kit. -

There is a Ukranian company who makes after market resin and photo etched parts. I have seen photo etched panel locking pin sets on their site a little while ago but cannot remember the company name. It could be USMC (Ukranian Scale Model Car) or something almost similar. Perhaps another reader may recall the correct name of the company. -
Thanks for the contributions guys. I will be watching this thread for any future comments by users of it. The only durable chrome finish I have found so far aimed at modellers is C1's Polishing Powder. As its name suggests, it is not a spray at all, but a powder that is buffed onto gloss black to get the desired finish.

How to strip Trumpeter chrome?
Bugatti Fan replied to kensar's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree Bill that the mould lines are generally the biggest bugbear on such components. Generally just a pain in the butt having to remove them. -
Not looked at this thread for a bit. Donato's Ridge Runner is a very impressive build.
