  1. Neat little gizmo! Was unaware of this product. It will save lots of expensive paints getting thrown away and I will certainly be investing in some of these. So thanks for putting this thread up Greg.
  2. If the die casts were toys rather than models then they were designed to be played with, hence the plastic that was used probably. We are modellers, right! Why not do some scratch building and copy those underside parts with plastic card instead. Thinking a bit laterally, it could be a neat way of solving this problem plus you can use the adhesives you already have!
  3. What about Plastic Weld liquid cement by Plastruct? I find it a good all around adhesive for ABS, Polystyrene and Acrylics. I discovered it years ago when using some of the Plastruct ABS extrusions for industrial and architectural model makers that polystyrene adhesives would not work on. It is my 'go to' liquid cement for most of my modelling work. The plastic innards from die cast toys/models is usually a hard type of plastic that is less britt!e than polystyrene. Plastic Weld might be worth a try on it. The flexible polythene types of plastic as used for Tupperware tend to be resistant to any adhesives. I used to curse Airfix for moulding their figure sets in the stuff as they were just impossible to clean up mould lines from or cut up to adapt. As for painting, their flexibility made them pretty useless in that respect too.
  4. Some of the newer digital cameras have a focus stacking firmware feature built in to the camera. So if anyone is in the market for a new camera this feature will be well worth looking for. Panasonic certainly has at least one camera with it, so I guess others might too.
  5. Very nice build. The black finish looks good. Nice interior detailing too
  6. You need to take this up with Mr.Hutchings the magazine owner Ryan
  7. Patents and copyrights. I would imagine a very expensive legal nightmare of you ever have to litigate to defend your intellectual rights on patents and copyright.
  8. The Checker Cab in the picture Jesse put up is such an iconic vehic!e that I am surprised that no one has ever made a kit of it. I think that there may be one of two die cast models about but not as kits. May be worth some cottage industry maker doing a resin kit? The Neon was marketed in the UK under the Chrysler brand name. A company I worked for had a couple as runabouts that I used to drive from time to time. The irony was that the TV ads hyped it as being the car that was built to satisfy Americans being the most demanding customers for the car! My driving experience was underwhelming to say the least and I thought that the styling was bland.
  9. They rely on villages being short of an idiot.
  10. That's a lovely compact diorama with plenty going on.
  11. That makes perfect sense what you are saying Francois, and also being able to correct some mistakes that the kit wing parts had on them whilst you were drawing them up on the cad. Incidentally, your wire wheels and tyres have really worked out well and look most realistic.
  12. Marshall Buck of Creative Miniature Associates has what looks like the ultimate 1/12th scale GT40 kit in development from what I have seen on their website. It has been shown on it for at least a couple of years now, so maybe the kit release might be some time soon ?
  13. I found the support brackets for the wings a bit prone to breakage on the kit items on my Bentley that I built years ago. In the end I replaced them using brass rod for strength. Hopefully 3D printed ones will be stronger than the kit plastic.
  14. Superb build by Chris on this thread. I have been thinking about this kit having now read this thread and Matt Bacon's build over on the Britmodeller Forum.
  15. Being unable to load photos directly onto a number of other forums without having to use a hosting facility. Loath to do this as we have all seen the results of Photobucket's watermark that all but destroys your pictures. Not only that but the results of other hosting sites either packing up altogether or deciding to charge for the service AFTER being free to use and therefore holding the user to ransom and totally wiping out pictures loaded onto numerous threads over different forums. Thank goodness I can load pictures directly on to this forum!
  16. Standard Wire Gauge drill bits. Not the easiest sizes to find. There must be plenty of drill bit equivalents in Metric or Imperial that should be available and easier to source. No shortage of engineers charts showing equivalents. Regarding drill bits it is horses for courses. Carbon Steel bits are perfectly alright if drilling plastic, brass and aluminium. HSS (High Speed Steel) better on tougher materials like steel, but perfectly good on plastics, brass and aluminium. Tungsten Carbide (PCB board drill bits) really keep their cutting edge but the downside is that they are extremely brittle. Only good for dead vertical use. Any slight side pressure will result in breakages.
  17. This is a really interestiing project being done the Wingrove way. Engineered in metal. Those Radially Spoked Wheels look so elegant. I did a scratch built T59 some years ago and the wheels were a bit demanding to make having three layers of spokes on each wheel.
  18. I'm irked that I get Irked. Lol.
  19. If a couple of guys in dark suits and sunglasses turned up on the doorstep saying 'We're here from the government' when the euphemism generally used on here describing a badly constructed model that needs rebuilding flags up on their computers.
  20. Is the description on here Optometrist being used instead of regular Optician who tests eyesight to arrange spectacles to be dispensed? My son in law is a qualified Optometrist and therefore able to do certain procedures directly on eyes that a normal Optician would not be allowed to.
  21. You pay peanuts. You get monkeys! My other irk is the How About a Laugh thread still being locked!
  22. My son ordered a 1/16th scale Revell car kit from Amazon for my birthday last year. All they did was stick a shipping label straight onto the kit box Itself and sent it like that! Fortunately whoever delivered it didn't crush it and I got it intact.
  23. Wow! Interesting reading about the sheer volume of good 'stuff' that gets dumped! Bob's mention of not having to spot using PCB drill bits on a Bridgeport Milling Machine is good to know keeping the bits movement vertical.
  24. Steve, Assorted drill bits with the same shank size (6mm usually) may well be tungsten carbide bits for drilling printed circuit boards. If that is what you bought they will be extremely brittle and break easily if any side pressure is applied, but having said that they really retain their sharpness. As for normal small drill bits pin vices are relatively inexpensive to have a few to hand for different sizes of drill bits. The all in one that Rick bought from Amazon looks a good versatile bit of kit.
  25. This is really going at a pace now. All the extra detail you have done is phenominal Francois. The chrome sprayed radiator shell looks great with the corrected badge position. Well worth doing I think you will now agree?
