  1. Pardon my ignorance, but living in the UK I was not aware of Alsa Chrome. It sounds as though it is used in a similar way to Alclad, Green Stuff World and A K chromes by air brushing. Looks very expensive for an 8oz bottle. So how much better is it than regular modelling chromes? What thinner if any is required? Does it achieve that holy grail of a bright reflective finish that goes off rock hard to resist handling? So what is the big attraction to Alsa Chrome in this competitive market and now that Revell markets a chrome aerosol finish that is getting good reviews?I Lastly, does any reader know if it is marketed over here in the UK?
  2. One has to ask the question, why is it necessary to remove the Trumpeter chrome in the first place? If it is simply too bright and unrealistic looking my method of getting over this is using Tamiya Translucent Smoke to tone it down for a more realistic appearance. Some of the chemicals mentioned in this thread are a bit evil to use without due caution for anyone's own safety!
  3. The engine drawing that Bill posted will be a really good basis to work from it you scale down the dimensions. When I made my scratch build of John Cobb's Brooklands Napier Railton, I used a drawing similar to that one of a Napier engine to scale down for my model. Once the basic shapes were made all the ancillary engine details were then added. It really is not as daunting as it looks at first. It is a matter of breaking the whole thing down into round and square shape derivatives to get the basics done. Aero engined cars from that period are quite fascinating in their own right, and make good conversation pieces as models.
  4. Alan, besides the good leads you already have from previous posters on this thread, try the guys in IPMS. Being a general modelling society, they have a great many more 'wingy thingy' enthusiasts who probably have shed loads of info on aero engines. The IPMS USA forum might be worth signing up to, and you might well get lucky on there with regard to someone who can help what you are looking for.
  5. There is direct e.all address for the company in their logo. Why not contact them to find out what retailers they ship to? Thinking a bit laterally here, I have sourced miniature piano hinges from retailers to the dolls house hobby.
  6. Interesting new release to look out for. I bought a movie one some time ago with the intention of making a factory stock motor from it. Too much hassle to do so I sold it on. So Aoshima doing a standard at is good news to me. About TIME if you will excuse the pun !
  7. Looking at some electric cars 0 to 60 stats makes very interesting reading. Rapid acceleration of a vehicle weighing much more generally than a petrol or diesel. Maybe another recipe for disaster for that hard core of idiot drivers where their car outperforms their IQ !
  8. The Humbrol versions were good paints, but sadly discontinued. The Mr Hobby ones however are good but stink to high heaven!T I think that there are sets of metallic paints that may buff to a shine available for the fantasy war gaming fraternity. Also I think that art suppliers have tube metallic products like Rub n Buff that might be worth a look.
  9. Corrected my earlier post to read 'dabbed on the figure'.
  10. Not a lot !
  11. Nothing on Ozark's website about any of the R&D Unique or Mini Exotics stuff yet.
  12. Gakken. Now there's a kit name from long ago. This will be a good project to follow.
  13. The engine work looks very realistic. This has the makings of a superb model when it is finished.
  14. Nice project taking shape here. Built the Monogram one way back. Often wonder why it was never re popped since. Have the moulds been destroyed?
  15. That's the video on Green Stuff Chrome that I looked at Jim. Thanks for putting it up on this thread. I must say that it looks impressive, especially the chrome being simply dabbed onto the figure. It will be interesting to learn what people who have used it think about it.
  16. Nice little vignette Louis.
  17. Can I suggest Mid Grey for the building frame colour? I think the car being painted black might stand out better. Interesting that you are using a mix of your own 3D designed parts, Plastruct and Evergreen. The building frame you designed looks really good for displaying the Bentley. Many years ago when I was planning a factory layout I used quite a lot of the Plastruct ABS Architectural mouldings. They were very good mouldings as I remember.
  18. Thanks for the heads up about Ollie's Gary.
  19. This build of Michael Schumacher's car looks like an interesting project to follow. It reminded me about Michael's suffering from that awful skiing accident, and that very little has been forthcoming about how he is recovering since.
  20. The display case you are making will be a fine complimentary way of displaying your model Francois. Did you 3D print the parts, or use some of the Plastruct architectural extrusion parts from their range?
  21. Excuse my ignorance being a Brit living across the pond. What kind of store is Ollies? Looking at the posts on here they seem to have lots of stores all over the US.
  22. Never ever got to Harrah's and was under the impression the whole lot was sold off. Good to hear that there is still a Harrah's museum albeit somewhat reduced still operating in Reno. I still have a Harrah's booklet with a full list of the original collection obtained from way back. From what I can remember there was more to the collection than just cars.
  23. Dry brushing some very dark grey over all the raised detail should give you a subtle effect by leaving the black in all the creases. If both the paints are matt finish and you are looking for a leather or vinyl look, when they are dry run the end of your finger across your forehead. Then gently rub the skin oil secretion onto the painted surfaces to impart a sheen.
