Peterbilt 359 'needle nose' conversion
Bugatti Fan replied to robdebie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There is a full article of mine about building the Duel Rig in a copy of MCM from a few years back. Should be available as a back issue. It was in the days before 3D printing or any resin transkits became available but quite doable as a conversion to the AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler the old fashioned way. I used the kit's front wheels that are wrong and discovered my mistake long after I had built and fixed the model to a base! The correct type is shown in the picture in Hakan's post. -
AC 289 Sports MkIII, aka an Englishman's Cobra
Bugatti Fan replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Cars
Nice one Matt ! A brilliant conversion job if I may say. You pulled it off well. Reminds me that I have an old ( 1/25th scale I think ) Frog/AMT Cobra kit kicking around that had been built and stripped I think with a similar narrower body style that I was thinking about retro building an AC Ace from. Whether it will ever come off the shelf of doom, who knows? -
Medical bills in the USA sound really scary to me without having adequate insurance or having some savings like you had behind you Bruce. People criticise our National Health Service over here in the UK but so glad that it anything serious goes wrong health wise, I will get treated without racking up a massive bill and possibly having to argue with an insurance company afterwards.

T41 Bugatti sport coupe
Bugatti Fan replied to charlie libby's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Nice to see a subject model engineered in the traditional way in metal using standard machinery and hand skills. You cannot substitute these sort of skills with a design drawn up in 3D Cad to download to a 3D printer. Really interesting thread to follow being a retired engineer. -
Nice model. A very futuristic looking car in its day.

Engine-Turning Aluminum
Bugatti Fan replied to Straightliner59's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Rick, to those readers on here who are not engineers you might have needed to explain what a Z stop is. Basically there are three axes. X axis is Horizontal Left to Right motion. Y axis is Horizontal Front to Back motion and the Z axis that Rick refers to is Vertical Up and Down motion. The Z stop would be to limit the down motion so that the tool makes very light but consistent marks on the material. -
Not just a deal. More of a steal at that price !

Very competent conversion to make a very unique model. Brilliant work Michael. The standard Volvo Amazon is a very nice looking car in its own right too. Just out of casual interest Ixo Collections make a 1/8th scale kit of the Amazon that looks really good.
-
Yea! I'm getting a bit disappointed about having nothing to irk me today ! Wait a second ! I'm getting irked at my disappointment about not getting irked ! Problem solved ! Lol.
-
And I always thought that 1/8th scale model cars were enormous. These Ectomobiles are a tad more than enormous ! I mean, where do you put such things in an average home? Tried the link to Blitzway's website. Found it really wanting in places on my tablet as I could not look at anything properly on it. Or was it just me? I gave up on it in the end.

How to turn a bad day into a worse day

I expect the knuckle dragger security team were waiting for him to wander into an off camera area and impress on his mind his bad behaviour. -

Simca 1000 RS Racing
Bugatti Fan replied to _TRF_'s topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I think I found a couple of die cast Simca 1000 models. A road and rally version, both in 1/24 th scale. The reason I am looking is because I used to own one back in the Sixties that I tuned up a bit and have a desire to make a model of my old car. -

Bugatti Fan replied to Anglia105E's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You are right there David! It is often the challenges of a longer term build, adding details and refining kit items that give the most satisfaction. My personal main interest is in building models of older cars and why I am following this particular build. It is really coming along well and fascinating to see how you are overcoming things and tackling it generally. It certainly will be a very nice model to be proud of when it is finished. -
The Bond DB5 really interests me but at present can only be bought as a part series. I will wait a bit as it will probably eventually become available as a full kit. the IXO Collections Bugatti Atlantic is very tempting I have to say right now.
-
It is really nice to come back to something you enjoyed in the past, so welcome! There are plenty of helpful people on here all sharing their interest and helping others returning to the hobby as so much has changed down the years.
-
Thanks for the info Bruce. I looked on the Agora stand at IPMS UK SMW show at Telford last year but did not see the 250 LM on it. The later JB DB5 looked really interesting to me as did the Cobra and E Type. You are in a privileged position getting to build models for the company and keeping them afterwards. Getting the 250LM complete kit for 500 dollars was quite a coup! I reckon you must have a charmed life with those big kits! I will be following your build of this model.
-
Had a look at your old post Helmut. Really nice restoration. That particular Ferrari really appeals to me as it is a really gorgeous looking car. I will have to see if I can find a copy of that old kit of it somewhere.
-
Interesting project Bruce. Looks like one of those part series models judging by the photo of a number of packs. You did not mention the manufacturer though.

I would imagine the blades are integral as they are described ending disposable.
