2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
The70judgeman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Had to lighten it up a little. Got it with a zombie movie bundle pack. I think Zombie Diary. It a nutshell...it's a guide to assimilate yourself into zombiehood. A quote from the back cover: "Reanimate yourself for success with advice on life, love, and work from the undead". -

Photo albums for storing decals....
The70judgeman replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sounds like a great idea, but like the Doc said...keep them away from moisture (decals enemy until used) in a dry place. Get them out of the garage. -
Oooo...somebody has expensive taste. I worked with a guy a few years ago who's dad wanted to sell me his collection of Pocher Models. At the time, I have to say I had never heard of them. Looked them up after work and was blown away at what they looked like...and the prices. He even brought a few to work for me to look at. There was no way I could give him a fair price for them...let alone for even one kit. Had to pass on them...and still kicking myself.

I did the 1/2 'n 1/2 thing to the clear Hemi kit. Mostly because I screwed up and a couple of parts broke and lost a spring for a lifter. So 1/2 looks like a built and painted engine and 1/2 you can see the working internals. Worked out in the end and looks pretty cool too. Come to think of it...I think one of the Mints (Franklin or Danbury) did a Richard Petty car like that.

Went to the scale model and toy show for the second time earlier this year and the money came flying out of my wallet. Not the same control as if I were at the hobby store. I found kits at the show that aren't in the store there and figured...buy it now or regret it later. A few were open and all there, so it was at a slightly reduced price which helped too. More bang for my buck so to speak. Plus...a couple are out of production kits I've been looking for and were resonably priced. It would take me months to buy all the kits in the store paying full retail. Isn't it funny how the brain works? At the store...frugal...at a show...spend like a mad man! Just glad there's only a few shows a year.

Have you tried 100% acetone/nail polish remover? -
What magazines do you get?
The70judgeman replied to bbowser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Musclecar Classics, High Performance Pontiac, Hemming's Muscle Machines, and Warbird Digest...yup, I like that stuff too. Oh yeah...an occasional hot rod magazine if something interests me. I also used to get Pontiac Enthusiast, but it, along with other enthusiast mags, was absorbed into one crappy rag. -
I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm 41 and my wife is 11 yrs older than me and I have 3 step-grandchildren. They're 6, 4, and 2. At least they don't call me Grandpa!

I'm not going too in depth with this one. Pretty much right out of the box...so to speak. I just want to build it back up and be presentable. No wiring or any mods. BMF for sure though.

Going to try a couple parts stores, but I think it's going to be a little difficult to find. Might have to custom mix something if I'm going that route. Stay tuned to see what happens color wise. I'll try that freezer trick too. Thanks for the tip!

Well, after an overnight stay in the purple pond, the body and hood cleaned up real nice. Unfortunately, the interior didn't fair as well. Guess it'll be black, or.........um...black. I managed to get the dash and steering wheel out, but the seats/console (one piece) are glued in pretty solid. It'll make detailing the trim on the door panels (foux wood and chrome) a little difficult. The dash and steering wheel will obviously be easier. Getting the body cleaned up and sanded smooth for primer later tonight. Now I need to figure out what body color I'm gonna go with. Want to stay away from the usual black and red. Thinking of that creamy yellow...if I can find it. Maybe turquoise?Almost forgot about the engine. I found another 421 with a Tri-power. Took it apart and going to "re-build" it.v

Almost more like tree bark. It was bad.
-
I don't know, but a kid must have done this one. Nothing was trimmed or sanded. The engine is toast. I have another one though...a Pontiac 421 Tri-power. It'll be a nice upgrade over the 421 4bbl that came with the kit. It came out of the purple pond this morning clean. Now the prep and real work starts.

My mistake...it's a '65 Catalina 2+2. Not the GP (Grand Prix). Couldn't change the title, but got the change in the paragraph.
-
I picked this one at the once a year "special sale" at a LHS maybe 5 years ago and completely forgot about it. As you can see, it's an AMT '65 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 I bought for $7 as is in the bag. The paint job is horrible, but on the bright side...except for the valve covers, the chrome is in great shape as well as the glass. Right after these pics were taken...into the purple pond went the body, hood, engine, and interior. Hoping the dash and seats come out later for detailing.

Tamiya Paints - hard to get
The70judgeman replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They're pretty well stocked now. There was just a period of time when Tamiya was doing their reformulation and the hobby store couldn't get the paint...that's what they posted right on the paint rack as I said before. I didn't miss out on anything as I have another store to shop at too...they're cheaper too. -
Tamiya Paints - hard to get
The70judgeman replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I remember correctly, the paints were reformulated and now they're getting back on the racks. There was a notice on the Tamiya paint rack at one of my LHS's. -
What's your favorite paint?
The70judgeman replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Switched from Testor's enamals, after some good and bad paint jobs, to their laquers. They lay on pretty smooth and dry quick. Also use Dupli-color Perfect Match for factory colors. For gloss...I use One Coat laquer. I'd like to try House of Kolor, but they are expensive and I'm still working on airbrushing. Need to get much, much better before I invest in those paints. -
1965/66 Mustang Photoetch

Did you click on the picture of the set? It'll show a larger pic if you do so. -
I've seen a couple of other build ups of this kit, but yours by far is the best one I've seen. And the black finish is like glass. I didn't notice at first, but the cassette tapes are a nice touch to that outstanding interior.
