JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Is it a coat, a bar, a boat, a car? Found this this morning.... it's on a Ford van chassis....... Here's the ad..... https://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/cto/d/roswell-the-boatcar-showcar-street-legal/7140025778.html -
Cool, Unique, or Unusual Cars on Craigslist

Not sure how to do a screen shot, but pics would be a good idea! How about the Ultimate in Bro-Dozers? Here's the link to the ad..... https://fayetteville.craigslist.org/cto/d/providence-2004-f250-powerstroke/7138376616.html -
I've done one of these threads in the past, and it was pretty popular, so I thought it okay to do another........ First up, a Porsche powered VW notch back...... https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/d/bisbee-1965-vw-notch-back-porsche-6cyl/7140462517.html This one fits into the "cool" category

Thank You, Anton! I built this kit when I was in my late teens, the same problem I had then I still have, and that's with the decals..... The project budget didn't allow for any decal solutions, so I'm having to work without. They are two separate stripes, not together as one decal. To make sure that I could get them half-way parallel, I coated the hood and nose decals with lacquer clear, thus making them one decal..... At a later time I can come back with a setting solution (hopefully) and fix those on the bumper..... And I thought I would show a mock-up of what this beast is going to look like! Still have to polish the body, and get started on the chassis...... Thanks!
-
Thanks, Carl! Well, I was able to save the clear on the body. I was concerned about sanding through the paint while trying to get the clear back smooth.... Then I remembered Ace-GarageGuy's tip on sanding complex shapes with Comet and a tooth brush. It knocked the crazing back smooth! Then I was able to re-clear right over it..... This is raw clear without any polishing done..... Gonna let it sit a while, wet sand with #2000, then polish it back to a shine. Whew! I'm just glad I didn't have to strip it....... Thanks, and feel free to comment!

Had a "spray day" today.... Unfortunately I had a mishap with the clear on the body. The clear I'm using has an application window that I couldn't stick to.... looks like I got a bit of crazing. It's just in the clear, so hopefully I can sand it smooth. If not, I may just strip it and start over. These things happen, I guess. However, things went fine on the hood and bumpers! I'll let them sit a while before I do anything else to them........ Anywhooo...... feel free to comment, and thanks for looking!

Carl, you gave me an idea with your post! I realized that I wanted something different for the painted engine parts.... I think this new color gives it a more modern look! I need to redo the exhaust manifolds with something more realistic.... Also got the body in primer today! All I had to do was remove just a few faint mold lines, deepen the shut lines some, and I removed the badges from the hood sides and rear bumper.... also put two coats of paint on the front to see how it was going to work out. The paint will get wet sanded, two more coats, then a wet sand followed by the clear.... I'm really enjoying this kit, and have a good feeling about this build..... Thanks for looking, and comment freely!

Thanks, Guys! That interior is two shades of primer with clear over some of the dark gray that I wanted to look like leather........ Now I'm on to removing mold lines and such on the body, will post more progress soon......
-
Hey, guys! Got the interior all done.... still need to do the spare tire. Again, it's not correct for the year Viper that the kit represents, but I thought it would look better two-tone than just gray.........

It's together for the last time! and I've gotten the engine bay all buttoned up....... All that's left is to finish the header, then it's on to Under Glass......

Very Cool Viper Renderings...

I'm not completely ignorant when it comes to cars, it's just been a while since I've worked on any Lambos....... -
Thanks, Carl buddy! I actually didn't foil the trim, though..... I used the foil to mask, then painted the trim. Turned out pretty good, I think!
-
It worked out! I had to repolish the thing to remove the adhesive from the foil, but I think it turned out pretty good.....
-
..... or "Blunderbird"! The foil isn't working out, so I've decided to use the foil as a mask and try to spray the black for the trim...... hoping it works out.
-
Thanks, fellas! It's Rustoleum Acrylic Lacquer "Crystal Clear"......... It's a nice shine, but tough to spray for me. I did get it all polished up this morning after a light wet sanding. Now the only chance I run of ruining anything is with this foil..... got started on it....... After the foil is done, it's on to final assembly!
-
It's the Revell kit..... Is there much difference between the two? This is a really nice kit, not sure about the AMT one.... Oh, yea.... the red engine parts aren't glued yet, they need to be attached after the body and chassis go together.
-
I don't think I have seen anyone do a WIP on one of these, so I thought I would show my progress for you guys. So far I've only been working on the engine. I sprayed it Krylon ColorMaxx aluminum, then muted it a bit with a mist of dark gray primer....... The red is more Krylon, then I picked out some details. I'll be doing it in black! Something different than the blue of the year car that the kit represents..... Thanks for looking, and comment freely!

Sorry it's been so long since I've updated this.... With everything going on, I was unable to get any paint until yesterday. So, I was able to finally get the last coats on everything and get it cleared. Just need to wait to polish it, then I'll do the trim with some black foil. Thanks for looking in!

I looked online to see if I could find a pic of how I would do it, which would be mild custom, but I couldn't find any! That may tell you how many old Lancers were done up custom.... Dare to be different? The Lancer flippers, maybe some lakes pipes, nice paint, and you'll have something unique...... -

It looks like the clutch is facing the front of the car.... a Countach style gearbox would work in that instance? What would it take to make an AWD set-up with the mid/rear engine layout? -
Hey, Fellas.... Just wondering if anyone has had any luck polishing DupliColor Perfect Match paints. I know as a rule it needs a clear coat, but the clear I have has a conical spray pattern, instead of the fan spray that I like..... The paint will be a solid color (Universal Black), so maybe I could get away with just polishing the bare paint? Feel free to show examples, and Thanks for any advice......
