Paint Pens for Detailing...
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Rick, you can paint large areas with them, if you flow them kinda wet.... they range in tip sizes, so pinstripes would be pretty easy to make... I don't see why you couldn't make custom decals with them. -

They are in the 'arts and crafts'....... They are very useful, especially for things like battery posts, radiator caps and the like... -

You just have to know what you're doing...... That's a joke.... I've never had that happen, but I've never used a white one. White paint seems to be "clumpier" than others, even in the Folk Art craft paints... -

JC, is there a list here on the board that lists all the 911 variants and why they're called what they are? Like, what makes a 993 different from a 911? May be a dumb question, but I love a nice Porsche and would like to know more about them....... Thanks! -

They come in a variety of shapes and sizes... the medium tip is about the same as a 3mm chrome marker. I'm glad you guys find this useful....... -
Got the wheels painted up, and just a quick mock-up to see how they're gonna look........ Thanks for checkin' in, and comment freely......
-
I'm not sure if any of you guys know about these... I get them at the Mart of Wal, they are paint pens.... they have a similar pump style tip to the Molotow markers. You can get a lot of use from them, and they only cost a couple bucks... I used the red and silver ones to detail these rims.... You can clear over them if you want... Thought these were worth mentioning to you fellas!
-
Thanks, Guys! Carl, the rims are from a 1/24 NASCAR kit, the tires are from the Thunderbird..... I had to alter the backs and mounting posts as well as trim inside of the tire to get them to work together... The '80s T Birds were run in NASCAR so I thought it would be cool to have that sort of theme...

As cheesy as the movie was, Batman Forever had a good soundtrack..... PJ Harvey has a song on it that I've never found anywhere else..... The Crow movie soundtrack was excellent! Helmet, Rollins Band, a lot of good stuff from that time frame....

Love these trucks! This is a darn good build....... -
Here's a mock up of the ride height.... now I can paint up the suspension and finish the chassis.....
-
You're right about the ride height... I've removed 2mm from the rear coils, on the front, the mounting spindle needs to be moved up some. I just cut it off and used a piece of tooth pick to mount it again... (whatever works, right?) The left side has been adjusted... and I'll be using some NASCAR wheels that I got from a guy here in the kit tires. The body has been wet sanded in it's color and is ready for it's final coat... I'll paint the rims black, maybe with a red lip. Thanks a bunch for following, and comment freely....!

Have any of you guys heard the album titled 'Encomium'? It's a tribute to Led Zeppelin... The album art looks like this... The only song that I've heard from it is "Dancing Days" by STP. I'm sure I can find all the songs on youtube, I was just wondering if you guys had heard it.... Here's a link to wikipedia... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encomium:_A_Tribute_to_Led_Zeppelin It's got some good artists on it!

Amazon Must See, "Tales of the Rat Fink"
JollySipper replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Cool.... it was on cable when I had the chance to see it. I remember a segment with them showing Roth building models.... he said 'no wonder the kids enjoy building these, they get a buzz from the glue fumes'......... -

I watched a documentary on Ed Roth once that was hosted by John Goodman...... very informative and entertaining. Is it the same one? -
The Crank wasn't so bad.... he would even use suggestions from the 'audience' in his builds. I asked him once what he thought of cutting out a heart in the roof of a build he was doing, he thought it a neat idea and did it.

Hey, Guys.... the interior is done. DupliColor makes a vinyl dye that I've used on this..... it has a nice sheen like vinyl/leather would have. Thanks for looking and for all the helpful comments!

Hey, Jeff... they DID come with the Mustang roller engine, some of them. I believe they called the V8 'Birds an LX... the engine in this car is the same one that came in the Pinto (?!).... The TurboCoupe was Motor Trend's "Car of the Year' in 1987... When the Turbo Coupe debuted in '83, they took one to Laguna Seca for some "comparison driving" (racing... ) against a contemporary BMW. The Bimmer gave all it had, and was barely able to keep up.... Can't remember where I read that, if I find it again I'll post a link to the article....
-
Started on the interior parts..... I'm using vinyl dye over DupliColor primer. The dash trim is an off-gray mixed from craft paints..... the seats are painted to look like cloth inserts but it's not showing in the pic.... Thanks for looking.....

Thanks for the kind words and interest, guys..... Mr. Mike, your build looks really good, man! Some more progress today.... I'm detail painting this one like if I had a real one, what I would change on a 1:1... aluminum radiator and aftermarket rack & pinion.... also got the turbo and intercooler parts painted up.... I really like these cars, and it's making this kit that much more enjoyable.....
-
Here's what parts of the engine that goes to the chassis.... the upper parts go in after the body and chassis are together.
-
Anyways, I decided that since I had the block black I would dress up the engine some.... I'll have pics this evening!

Come a long way...

That's a world of difference, Tomo! Both of the cars in my example were painted with the same paint.... DupliColor Toreador Red.... This is from when I first joined the forum This one came later Again, it's the same paint.......
