Chevy Van + 57 Belair - It's sort of a car - Meet the custom "Belvan"
PatW replied to RestoModGuy's topic in Model Cars
Well Jim I've read all of the other comments, but it's just crazy amazing! Very well done! -
Yes we had quite a few tearing about, until the wind got up! ( that's Bond cars in general as they were all three wheelers with fibreglass bodyshells). Then they would tend to tip on their sides on corners, or in one case, whilst travelling to work one day, I saw blue lights flashing up ahead. Now I knew the road well and we I was coming upto a bridge over the railway, well the parapet was a brick wall on both sides of the road. I was stopped by Police to let vehicles coming towards me drive past the wreckage on the other side of the road. The wind was quite strong that morning and the Bond driver had had his steering over to the right to compensate for the high crosswind, when he came across the bring that was higher than his car, and therefore no crosswind! The chassis of the Bond was laid on the side of the road bare of the fibreglass bodyshell, which was behond it smashed into little pieces! He had hit the bridge on the right (still compensating for the crosswind) and the body, coming into contact with the brick wall had shattered!

Wow the Corvette, my eyes have gone funny. Looks great, great camo style decalling! I was just going to buy this kit having seen corvettes at close quarters at Le Mans. What other problems did you have please?

What a good idea Tom, very good so far!
-
Looking at this reminds me of my first car that I bought 1966! Keep up the good work!

You are so right, 'Don't take model building so seriously, it's all about our creative juices, do something different every month or so, just chill. What does it really matter if the colour is not factory stock, or the wheels are different or the engine. Or if it's turned into a woody or something, that the factory didn't build. I personally don't like factory stock because the cars, no matter where they come from are boring because they throw out thousands, think, (excuse the pun) outside the box! I can't remember when I did 'a box stock' without adding/changing something!

Wow really small and powerfull, what a wheel stander!
-
Well real cool and really groovy!

Wow I remember that engine. My wife had the Ford 100E Popular when we got married in 1968, with that beast under the bonnet. Yes it was as said all 1172cc, three speed manual box with exhaust intake powered windscreen wipers, the faster you went (up to the maximum of 45 miles per hour) the slower they went! Heres a pic of one in the same colour..........

Very good looking woody work, well done!

Great build, I'm interested to see builds like this to inspire me!

The wheels are all 2 piece plastic and quite a bit smaller than the 1/24-1/25 wheels/tyres, definitely 1/32nd!

Yes we had heard that McLaren were thinking of talking to Mercedes about going back to them for reliable, faster engines. We live just 6 miles from Mercedes F1, 12 from Red Bull, 10 from Renault and 5 from Force India, in the F1 triangle.

Well it's opening time as my birthday is here as are both the kits I was after! Th first one as previously mentioned was this................. made in 1976 and in perfect condition, Tomorrow I will scan the decals and spray them in 2 coats of clear gloss, to stop them falling apart when dipped into warm water, but if they do fall apart I have a copy to print onto clear decal paper. All of the plastics will be given a soapy warm water wash and clear water rinse and natural dry. The second kit is one that I've been seeking for a few years. Recently seen on ebay.com at $174 down from $!99! I found this on a website here in the UK that specialises in pre-owned kits, for just £30 plus £6 postage and packing! Again as the other kit I have already scanned and given the decals 2 coats of gloss clear. The plastics will go through the wash process tomorrow. A few interesting months ahead!
