There was a body kit similar to this back in the day. Excellent job on the conversion.
-
Looks fantastic! If I hadn't seen the work on the body mods, I'd have a hard time believing that was made from 4 different cars.
-
I think the company name is a misspelling. Should be Simil'r, as in the kit is similar to a real car. That looks worse than and old Revell kit with worn out tooling. You're doing fantastic with the clean up, though!

Those TA64 Celica and 240RS rally cars are sweet! I don't believe that generation of Celica has ever been kitted.

Suggest 1957 Chevrolet model kit?

Steer clear of the old Revell kits with opening doors and trunk. Unless you're a masochist. -
Time Attack Widebody Lancer Evolution 8 (UPDATE: ALMOST Done!)
Zarana-X replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking great. A Lancer is one of four modern cars I'd have a hard time choosing between if I had money. Glad no one pulled the rice card on your "Modern Muscle" build. -
Volkswagen did it with three different models, (Type 3, 411/412, and the Brasila) so I'm sure its possible. I like it. I like weird, Studebaker and Tucker had some of the coolest designs, IMO.

This one is already done, it was a rebuild of a glue bomb. I Still need to fix the headers... I had the fenders for the bed, but I hate them. The boxy look of those aftermarket beds ruins the look of all the mini-trucks I've seen them on. I wanted to try some old 50's Ford F-100 fenders, but I'm out. Anyway, I mostly rebuilt what was left of the kit, and replaced the headers and added the spoiler, which I'm thinking about painting black... the fuel cell in the bed, and a rear bumper. I'll probably add a fresh build to this as time permits. Nice gap, Revell....

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........

Amazing work continues. I wouldn't be surprised if you have a tiny machine shop with Lilliputian machinists to pull off this work, though. -
Model kit subject builders block
Zarana-X replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I tend to shift from building cars, to post apocalyptic style cars, to sci-fi kits & mecha. So I just change gears for awhile. -
Whats the weirdest kit in your stash?
Zarana-X replied to mustang1989's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen the Crusher Joe and Mazinga UFO brain before. The Spiral Flow thingy looks similar to the hover bikes from Southern Cross/Robotech. -
I think a lot of the inaccuracies occur because they use multiple cars, or pictures for reference, and not all are the right year. Worst case scenario I know of is actually a toy, but a good example. The Ghostbusters Highway Haunter. The rear is a '50-ish cabriolet, the body a '67, the windshield and interior a 1303 Superbeetle, and it has ugly 4-lug wheels.

Way to get back on the bike! Your work looks fabulous. I've never really taken a break, and you're better than me. My eyesight is also bad, but I'm nearsighted. Left eye is good, right eye is blurry no matter what. I tried to use the magnifying glass on a stand, but it is more of a drunk simulator, and messes up my depth perception. Never stop swearing (just not here... )I got tired of trying to make things perfect, and just started to clean them up as best I could, so all my "clean" builds still get weathered to resemble drivers, not show car customs.

That looks horrible. As a kit, I've never seen another one that wasn't a dedicated wagon body. I remember the Mustang and Firebird concept cars... Real cars though, I've seen the 80's Firebird (I think they are all custom one-offs) the Nissan Pulsar: Geo Storm/ Isuzu Impulse: I think this whole idea only really works with hatchbacks. It'd be a goatload of fab work to make regular sedan into a useable wagon.

Monogram-Revell 1980 Datsun 4x4
Zarana-X replied to Zarana-X's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks everyone. It's a good kit for a beginner, if you don't try to fix everything... I really wanted to go for a period, semi-custom look. I kinda wan't to build another one, but then again... Think I'll see how the Aoishima ones are. Oh, I sanded them... The tires have a weird sunken area at the seam, I was erring on the side of caution and didn't want them to look worn out, or give them a wear pattern like over-inflated tires. -

Few more shots. And finally, some outdoor light pictures: -
This is the latest issue of the old snap kit from monogram, which I think makes it about the 4th or 5th one... I had this in a Community Build off, but I think only the same 30 people even go in that section. Being a snap kit, I had some work to do correcting shortcuts and oversights, including replacing the "spare tire" lump with an actual tire, fixing the gaping hole in the firewall, and adding rear shocks. I also had some serious fitment issues with the window, interior tub, and chassis going together. So, I shaved down the window and tub to get the needed clearance. When I was a kid I had two of the original release, which is where I got the "Goodyear" tires and license plate I used on this. Glad I spent the extra time to detail the Datsun script on the grille , also added a radiator. You cant see it, but there's an opening behind the bumper, if I didn't add it, you would see the fan. You can sorta see the Datsun script here. The "holes" in the skid plate should be actual holes, but its a mounting point on the model, otherwise I would've opened them up. Distributorless engine, not really enough room to add one, either. I did add a carburator, but you can't see it anyway. Added a rearview mirror. Replaced blob with an actual spare tire. (yeah, I know it has lugnuts in it still, I'm not that good) and added shocks. For whatever reason, there's a pretty big gap behind the cab, and roll bar, so I made it a double tube to fill in the gap. Added the license plate from the original release. The taillights are molded into the body, that's one of my bugaboos. Tried to shade them, but I have mixed feelings how it turned out.

Great work! I have two of these I have had for years. I found it funny, at the time, that these were $5 cheaper than the stock Mini when this kit is the stock version + the conversion parts
-
Excellent.... If I had a muscle car, it would be a Mopar.
-
Nice & tidy! Still haven't found one on the shelf yet.

Nice work on the valve covers. I can't wait to see more work on this. My friend has an original release, I tried to buy off him. He's not a modeler, and will never build it. Jacob, what you have is the OLD Revell '68 Beetle engine. It is a bad engine, from a bad kit . My suggestion is to glue the deck lid shut, (From the exhaust, though it looks off-road, though... )or get the Tamiya, or new Revell engine and go from there.
