1/25 Revell '72 Porsche 914/6 2'n1
Zarana-X replied to unclescott58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I was given a started Ritchie Ginther version a few years back. It was missing the windscreen, so I just made a full cage. I would assume the only difference between the Road Race and Stock version is the racing seat, windscreen, tachometer, and the fire extinguisher. The Fuchs it came with are junk. I used some from one of their Beetles, which ironically, is the best part in the old Revell Beetle kits. The whole back end fitment is kinda wonky. This is the best I felt like getting it: -
Are you using Internet Explorer? It hasn't been getting along with that for awhile. Try Google Chrome, if so.

The wheels came out great! I ordered a set of Aoshima BBS wheels for mine.

1966 Volkswagen 1300 Beetle | Low 'N' Ru5t Bug - Tamiya 1:24

Excellent work! That may be a little too low, though. The transaxle shares fluid with the rear wheel bearings.- 74 replies

I've built 3 of these over the years. One was my first Tamiya kit when I was a teenager. Its a fine kit, for a curbside. everything is well detailed, and fits together flawlessly. The most recent one has the boxart with no driver, but it still comes with him, but the decals in the new kit were defective. They were super thick and wouldn't seperate from the backing sheet . Never seen that before, and certainly wouldn't expect that from Tamiya,

Lindberg 61 Impala "Marketing sample" box

I think if they came up with a better term than "Hotties", It might seem less offensive. I don't see anything wrong with the figures themselves, unless you wore that to church. There's a time and place for everything, and they look like any number of people you'd see at a car show. -

I build the Road Warrior Interceptor. This certainly got far off from the CHiPs cars. -
I just saw this car today. It's in Riverside, CA under a tarp Hmm, I know this. Ok, I can't remember the name of the movie, but I remember they take the car apart, and re-assemble it inside the guys house.

Yeah, but once I take the photos, its staying in the "battleoid" mode. Shame since all the detail in the cockpit, but I don't feel like retouching the paint. One more round of decal fun to go. Does it address anywhere else options for the different designations? I couldn't fix my decal mishap because I was using Future as a setting solution. I painted over the wrong label and put the correct decal over it. In the picture above, on the knees, there is a white triangle with a Z in it, those shoulda been a blue caution triangle. The white Z traingles should have gone on the side of the head, according to several reference pictures I collected.

I had two of the off-white originals as a kid, that's why I have the Goodyear tires. Before the reissue,.Id look for these on ebay, never found the original in their boxes, only as glue bombs. The Miller one was always overpriced. I ended up getting a body from the yellow one and making a post-apocalyptic car out of it. I drilled out the holes on one of the old wheels, and it came out good, I'd recommend taping the sides of the wheel to protect it, though. I'll use that one as the spare. The firewall is kinda ridiculous... I'm gonna add a fill in to where the Sharpie marks are.

Getting the decals on. They're behaving pretty well. I took the precaution of clearcoating them, due to age. I've only had two mishaps, and I've put two in the wrong place. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH you Monogram! The Decal part of the instructions is literally four 1 1/2" x 2" black and white photos... Been relying on google images for proper location, but wishing I had some color prints instead of looking at photos, then going to the cellar and going on memory... Anywho...

The engine looks pretty good, other than the molded in starter, until you get to the front. I think someone had had enough and went home early. No distributor, or fuel pump:

I haven't seen it in years, but in the movie Swamp Thing they wreck a truck, and as its flying through the air and crashing its a tottaly different truck. I seem to remember a K5 Blazer and a Scout or Bronco being switched? In My Tutor, they wreck a Porsche, but as the car is seen laying on its side (from the bottom), it is a Karmann Ghia. I recall several movies where you can see a jump or rollover car where there is clearly no engine in the car, or you can see the launch cannon on the bottom of the car, or even the section of telephone pole bouncing in the shot.

Non traditional work spaces
Zarana-X replied to topher5150's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a drawing table with a sheet of plaxiglass over it. Or used to. the plexiglass is gone. Its at a nice height to use a regular kitchen chair. I've used a heavy duty plastic folding picinic type table in the past. That worked pretty good, and had enough room for a small shelf at the back. -
If anyone's building this stock, this is the correct engine color, slight bluish green: These are what the stock wheels should look like. White steelies with a black center cap: The "D" shaped divots in the kits wheels need to be drilled out, but I don't think its doable without screwing up the wheel lip. The kit is a 1980 Datsun 720 model. It is the last year to use the L20b engine. It is the only year to have the hood vents near the window, after that they had black plastic vents on the side near the fenders.

Ford Escort RS1800
Zarana-X replied to afx's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
This is flippin' amazing! If the US got the old RWD Escorts, they would be taken more seriously. The surviving FWD ones are a source of mockery and ridicule. -
Beautiful work on these. I'm partial to the Nissan, though.
