  1. Welcome aboard. For what it's worth, the original plan was to find a Modelhaus '57 Buick to start with. They're out there, but usually cost several hundred dollars at least. The mold for the Modelhaus '57 was obviously taken from an acetate promo, and careful analysis of every photo of one I could find online shows the acetate original had already started the warping, shrinking process when the Modelhaus molds were pulled. A critical eye will see that there's a whooptee in the front fender, and it looks like the width is a tick narrow relative to the bumpers as well. These issues are consistent with the slightly more severe warping of my own acetate promo. With the price and rarity of the Modelhaus kit, which would still require substantial correction prior to making new molds, I elected to start with the best original acetate model I could find. EDIT: This just in...it looks like Modelhaus already did a 2-door phantom, but I'd bet the chances of finding one are akin to finding snowballs in Cuba.
  2. Them pigs ain't never gonna fly.
  3. Thanks. I've been looking at his offerings, and will definitely be ordering. The quality looks to be absolutely first-rate.
  4. Thanks for the heads-up. Definitely worth trying. It certainly LOOKS to be among the best chrome effects available, especially for "reasonable" money.
  5. T-Mobile has an internet plan that works through their phone service, and you can connect your home computer through an in-home hot-spot. I've used it, it works well. The cost is reasonable, and can be tailored to fit your data usage.
  6. Just a thought to keep it all Cadillac...there are aftermarket aluminum heads for the Caddy 472/500 that can make big power, especially supercharged.
  7. Boring Company is the name of one of Musk's more controversial operations.
  8. Never mind.
  9. Yup. And just to be entirely PC and show our support for saving the world, we should ban all vehicles that represent any kind of internal combustion power.
  10. These are such beautiful cars, should look great with some tasteful customization.
  11. Small enough so the whole model could get lost in the carpet. Make a pretty cool Christmas tree ornament though.
  12. Yes, one of the things I enjoy most about this hobby is experimenting with and learning new tools and techniques. I scored some tiny carbide bits for carving detail into the diecast metal, but had to find some adapters to chuck them up in the Dremel, as my miniature air grinders are at the real-car shops. Anyway, I'm hoping to get the carving done on the windshield surround and the fuel door, then get the body in self-etching primer shortly.
  13. Thanks for your interest.
  14. Priceless.
  15. Version one and version two of the same basic design are sometimes very similar, differing only in detail.
  16. Walk the walk if you talk the talk.
  17. You just have to wonder sometimes...
  18. I like pretty much everything on their menu. I usually get the Nachos BelGrande, and a couple of burritos or tacos or whatever appeals at the time. I could eat their stuff every day, that and Indian from the new place around the corner, and the really good authentic Mexican place nearby, but if I ate any of it as often and as much as I'd like, I wouldn't be able to waddle up my steps in a few weeks.
  19. This is not within my area of first-hand knowledge, but two things come to mind immediately. 1) There are several good reference sites out there where you can get a pretty good "eyeball" feel for the size of the respective frame members, and find more relevant info. Here's a couple: https://bangshift.com/bangshiftapex/random-car-review-the-chrysler-kit-car-program-the-original-saturday-night-special/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/908438682612373/ 2) The frame acquires very significant additional rigidity with the addition of the roll cage and body, so the strength of a full frame that would have to carry all the torsional and bending loads on its own isn't required in the bare rails. EDIT: Looks like the Dec. 1973 issue of Stock Car Racing magazine did an article too. It's available on eBay.
