Cutt'n and hack'n a '50 Ford
Intmd8r replied to Intmd8r's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks all. Tom - aftermarket drop axle will do wonders for lowering this truck. I wanted something more aggressive and to stay clear of the aftermarket world. going to stick with styrene fabrication and maybe sampling from my parts bin. Also, not sure it shows in the pics, but I'm going for a body (cab) drop on the frame to exaggerate the top chop. Altering the frame was the best method. Engine choice will most likely be old school flathead power, tough haven't committed yet as to what configuration it will be. Might have to lower the engine mount between the frame rails for the driveshaft to clear the dash lol. -

A little more mock up.... Think I nailed down how the front will look like. -

Can't leave the stance stock! Considering I started with no real plan, I'm liking the direction this is going. -

That looks amazing. Jealous how realistic the upholstery looks! -
Anyone try using automotive window tint film?
Intmd8r replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That Toyota looks great! I purchased a vinyl headlight tint off of eBay a while back. Its self adhesive, has the right look, no mess. Cost me roughly $10 delivered. Being self adhesive vinyl, it performs well around curves too. -
I laid down Vallejo primer over a prepped body and let it cure for 3 days (roughly). Bought Testors Aztek Pearl White, since that is the color I was after and it didn't stick to the primer at all. Peeled right off! Only had that issue with that color though, the Copper and Silver pearl laid down over the same primer without issue. For my initial project, ended up using Vallejo RAL 9001 (white). While not the preferred color, buy it laid down smooth and polished to perfection with only two light coats.

I am in the process of experimenting with Testors Acrylic paint and sharing the some of the frustration in the post. What has been you experience with curing time? I know elements like temperature and humidity are a factor, but I'm looking more of a baseline to start with.

“Beautiful” doesn’t seem to give this build justice. The paint looks flawless and the overall product is top quality. This is the look I visioned for my ‘48 Ford. I’m jealous....

I wouldn't waste your money. Been disappointed with every "chrome in a can" paint that I have tried. Especially the Duplicolor products. There was a Krylon Premium Original Chrome my wife bought from Michael's a few years back that worked OK, but it gave the appearance of polished aluminium at best.

As requested.....the Pink '29 A Pickup from Street Rodder, May 1990...TIM
Intmd8r replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Wow - that screams early '90s! Everything from the TPI engine, to the wheels. The color and graphics were a dead give away from which era of Hot Rodding this was from. -
I subscribe to the magazine and am familiar with the 1:1. Very convincing replica Phil!

My son recently completed his first model, by himself (with coaching from Dad). He had ambitious goals and expectations for his first build, so Santa had to find something that fit his interest and skill lever for this 5 year old. The Raptor Snap Kit kit the bill. Will wanted something with custom paint, but I was able to talk him into something that he would enjoy, have fun with, and be proud of. So here it is: out of the box Raptor with some light, off road weathering. Pictures were done in the warmth of our basement as we decided outdoor pics in the blowing snow wan's't going to happen. The artist himself: I read/explained the instructions, Will assembled the truck himself. I laid out about 6 different colors of brown and he flicked the paint onto the truck, using an old toothbrush. He even used the excess to dry brush the wheels. The simple job was fun for him and I think it looks great. Sometimes the simple builds offer the most pleasure. The last picture speaks for itself.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion Scott. The hobby is virtually nonexistent and poorly supported in my region. The nearest hobby store supporting non-military or non-gaming items is roughly an hours drive. Difficult to access with kids and full time employment. I appreciate your offerings and continued support for the Canadian market. Keep up the good work ?

Hurst Olds to Cutlass 442 Conversion?
Intmd8r replied to Intmd8r's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You mean the Unicorn? I know these kits exist, but I have never seen one in stock at a store on on-line. No doubt this would be an awesome kit if you can find one. Just asking about a conversion kit since I have a pair of un-built Hurst/Olds in my collection. -
Hurst Olds to Cutlass 442 Conversion?
Intmd8r posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know that the 1:1 was mainly an appearance package, but does anyone know if there is such a conversion available to turn the Revell Hurst Olds to Cutlass 442? Would expect it to be a decal package at best. Would be easy enough to modify the "Lightning Rods" to a traditional floor shift. Thx -
Yup - the carpet sure adds to the effect!

That turned out nice - great work!

I like the direction and craftsmanship. Neat idea with the spoons !

Been searching myself for on-line stores based in Canada for aftermarket items too, but they seem to be a unicorn. 99% of the aftermarket vendors are American and I get the impression that there is not enough margin in the products to offer competitive discounts to Canadian sellers to offset the cost of importing the goods. Howard's post is a refreshing perspective and confirms my observations. Had contemplated opening my own on-line store last year before Hobbico closed down Revell. Would have had to been a high volume seller right out of the box to qualify for preferred dealer pricing, or offer free shipping (expensive in Canada) to potential customer in order to compete with sellers based in the USA. Could not see enough profit in it to justify the cost of start up. The only two active on-line stores that I am aware of based in Canada are: https://www.clearlyscale.com/ -Sells in USD only. -Sells mainly resin products -Recently read that the owner/operator is having health issues that may affect deliveries. Personally not confirmed this. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/maple-leaf-modelworks -3D printed products

They exist, but they have been out of production for years and typically go for a premium. Monogram released the SS in the '80s I think and re-released them under the Revell brand several times. The Aerocoupe was was available in the '90s - 2000's from what I recall. There are some resin conversion kits available to turn the SS into the GL or LS trim, but even those are getting difficult to find. Other G-body models (Grand National/GNX/Cutlass/El Camino) seem to be more readily available and more recently produced.
