MPC 68 Corvette metal springs size
Monty replied to hedotwo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
IIRC MPC stopped using the metal springs after the '76 Corvette kits, so the chances of someone having them might be pretty low. Here's what you do: the frame has "pockets" where the springs go. Find a coarse threaded screw that fits in there, then wrap an appropriate gauge of beading wire around it to make the spring. Extra detail: in 1:1 C3 Corvettes, the front shock absorbers go inside the spring. The kit doesn't have front shocks, but you can make them easily from overlapping pieces of brass or plastic. Paint them a color (yellow?) that makes it easier for them to be seen. -
If you remember a few years back, Life Lock made a big promotion about how tough it was to hack their system...and they got hacked big time.

See the post above yours. Years of being online and this is the first time anything like this has happened (to the best of my knowledge).
-
Believe it or not, it's the first time it has happened to me, so I was clueless.

A friend of mine just notified me that he saw someone on Snapchat who has my first name and my land line phone number attached to their avatar. If it's going to be a problem, what do I do?

Here's some info I found on YouTube for the GX series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcQnB0Zbi08&t=1894s I'm not sure what you mean by CR paints. Can you show us an example?

As a former owner, I'm always interested in seeing a C3 kit come together, and I like where this is going. The paint appears to be a yellow gold, which appeals to me. Would you mind sharing which exact paint (ex: Model Master #3216) you used on this?

I'm one of those people who still likes most Testors/Model Master enamel paints, especially their vast array of reds. To that end, I do occasional ebay searches to see what's still out there at reasonable prices. I found another big sale the other day (probably 20-some colors in varying quantities) and one listing was for MM Deep Red Pearl. It was an acrylic, but the prospect of that shade intrigued me, so I bought two bottles. The seller's picture should have given me pause, but I pulled the trigger anyway. Upon receiving the package, I saw that both bottles looked like the picture above. In a desperate attempt to change reality, I fired up my trusty Badger paint mixer and went after it, but the paint stubbornly remained blue. Occam's razor says it was a factory label issue. (Seller had more of these than the two I bought). Any other opinions?

Any postal employees on here? I don't understand this.

Judging by the two zip codes, there were at least two different facilities involved. -
Another ebay purchase. Can someone explain why my item ping-pongs around these Dallas facilities for so long? I've got a convertible kit body that will be using the front "glass" from a hardtop body. The windshield wraps around to provide glass for the vent windows, but I'd like to cut that off and make them separately (from acetate?) to make it more like a 1:1 car. In my few interactions with it, clear styrene always seemed more brittle and less capable of being easily cut or shaped, so any suggestions regarding this would be appreciated.

Brabham BT-46B Fan Car
Monty replied to Scale-Master's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Same here. The fan really intrigued me. Another mini masterpiece. -
I purposely used a URL shrinker to shorten this mile long thing, and I even tested it before posting. Doesn't seem to be working now. No idea why. 8/24/23 Looks like the link is working for everybody. I'm glad, 'cuz I think a lot of you guys will like these parts.

As some of you may already know, very few kit or aftermarket distributors have a vacuum advance attached. Obviously, this is of more importance to those of us who build US-based replica stock or street machine models than the race car guys, but I thought they were worth showing as they're decent replicas with nice pre-drilled coil and plug wire holes. https://tinyurl.com/2vxb8pje

Origin of MPC 32 Imperial
Monty replied to keyser's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was always intrigued by the amount of effort and engineering some companies (MPC & JoHan) put into these old classics while so many of their more modern car kits got promo-like chassis and mediocre engines. Made me wonder what it would have been like if they'd brought their "A" game to the rest of the line. ? -
Textured paints through an airbrush?
Monty replied to mr moto's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Can't say I've tried it, but if I was going to I'd switch up to a .5 mm needle etc. -
What an absolute gem. Reading the WIP section, I noticed I wasn't the only one who spotted any number of subtle, well done details like the washer fluid container. I assume you did the striations in the rear glass (heated rear window)?
-
I considered that but didn't know if it would be too hot for styrene.

Can someone please recommend a hobby paint that matches the engine blue in the picture vamach1 posted? I’ve heard all the stories about how the color could change day to day, depending on what was available, but I want that specific shade. And no, don’t suggest the Testors stuff.

Gotta agree with Dpate. Unless the kits is pretty much unavailable anymore, I can't see buying a built version, especially if the previous builder's paint and glue work were sloppy. I've turned down built versions of my Holy Grail kit because I basically didn't want to do double the work.

Revell '77 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Opinions
Monty replied to ranma's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've asked a couple times whether anyone had tried to change this over to a full detail car, but apparently no one has. I thought about attempting it myself about 10 years ago, but noticed a couple things I thought would make it a tough slog. Love to see you step up to the challenge, as my dad had a beautiful silver '77 I'd like to replicate. Maybe consider AMT's '70 Monte Carlo chassis as a starting point. Most sources say there were only two engines available - 305 & 350, so that shouldn't be all that difficult to come up with. Ours (I was told) was a 400. It could barely manage 14 mpg on the highway.
