Nice job! We don't see those '71-'73 Cougars on here very often so I'm glad you posted. Interesting idea spraying the metallic green over a silver base. Paint looks sharp. This kit used to have a reputation for sagging at the rear end, but it looks like you resolved that. I've got one waiting to be built. Any problem areas I should watch out for? As '70 Stang asked, what's your method for creating the vinyl top?

Agreed, but someone beat you to the punch hours ago. Sad that it didn't occur to me when I originally posted it, but I am home sick, so...

I believe it came with a battery, so I probably didn't pay much attention to it. My situation was probably an anomaly; if this kind of malfunction had been endemic, it would've been virtually impossible to keep the news out of most modeling forums.

Unfortunately I live in a hick town so almost all hobby purchases are done online. In addition, I've heard some disturbing things about the Tamiya stuff, so I may see what else is out there.
-
No, I would've been using either Duracell or Energizer regular batteries. I don't think I own anything that takes lithium batteries.

Note to self: Derrrrrrrrrrrr. Great points, sir. Adding lacquer thinner to a wash would be beyond dumb, since most of my painting involves enamels, And yes I should quit being cheap and just get another bottle.

It's more or less sludgy - some liquid with chunks in it. If I understand correctly, this stuff is enamel, and I didn't know if this was a sign that it had turned bad or if mixing and thinning would reconstitute it. Regarding the Tamiya X-20 thinner, here's what someone posted the other day: If I remember right I read someplace the alcohol in X-20a is some form of glycol alcohol. Denatured alcohol would indeed be closer than iso. And actually denatured alcohol works well in Tamiya acrylics. So does lacquer thinner. At the Tamiya site they list LT as the thinner to use if you want a harder finish ( look in the fine extended print there). I'm thinking glycol alcohol won't work with enamel.

True story - several years ago, I decided to buy a hobby paint mixer and figured something from Micro Mark would be a worthwhile purchase. It worked OK for a couple weeks before it literally caught fire at my model table. Been using the Badger unit ever since.

Bought some black Tamiya panel liner a number of months ago, but didn't get around to trying it out until recently. Upon opening it, I discovered it was a little chunky. I assume this means air somehow got in there and it started to dry. Didn't bother trying to use it until I heard from some of you with experience whether I could bring it back to normal with something like a little lacquer thinner, or if my Badger paint mixer would be enough.

Saw a video of someone building this kit and it made me wonder who made it originally. If I understand it correctly, Atlantis bought up a bunch of old molds from a number of different model companies and is now offering them for sale under their own name. So is the kit above based on this? I'm going with this theory because both kits feature opening doors, hood and trunk.

I remember seeing the beginning of this build in your WIP thread and thinking "This is gonna be special." Color choice, detailing and build quality are all top notch. Well done.

Agree 100%. As another member said, I've passed up that kit so many times because I didn't know if I could make the top look realistic. Obviously it can be done, and done well. Gustavo, if you have a free moment, could you give us the basics of what it took to pull this off? Question for the group: It looks like there are two smaller mufflers and two regular size mufflers on this exhaust system. Assuming AMT got it right, whazzup with dat?

I was going to ask about that. There's a YouTube car model builder who uses it on all his "glass" and seems happy with its strength and clarity.

I'm looking to replicate the finish on the spokes of these wheels. Please be as specific as possible (ex: Testors #1615) when listing your recommendation. http://media.fotki.com/1_p,rtdkfwdsgftkdtdxswrbwbbfqfwtk,vi/rbdkwbrrkxbrstgdrkkxbrwbqgtbb/6/3766926/14276847/04032016_09-vi.jpg If you can, I'd appreciate seeing pics of wheels painted with whatever you recommended. Thanks!

Dell Inspiron is around six years old and has been one of the best PCs I've ever owned. Lately, however, I'm seeing something that looks problematic. I like having YouTube (music etc) playing in the background while I'm on other pages (1:1 cars, models, crosswords) but recently after an hour or so the video dies, while the audio (YouTube) continues on. Cause? Fix?

'66 Ford Galaxie '7-Litre' 1/25, comments please?
Monty replied to fiatboy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wish I knew what AMT's rationale for change was but the '65 Galaxie had a decently detailed chassis with poseable front wheels, while the '66 had a separate exhaust but utilized two wire axles for the wheels. Some time ago we had a Brazilian member (LoveFordGalaxie) who built some of these and did a fairly good job. Hopefully some of his pics still exist on here. -
Looks like you're off to a great start on a build of one of my favorite cars. I've never built a Fujimi kit but I've heard they can be incredible, and incredibly fiddly, so it will be fun to watch as yours comes together. Question for the group: every pic I've seen of this engine seems to show it with two orange oil filters. My inner snob wonders if those are Fram units. ? Yes, I know that millions of cars have gotten satisfactory results with Fram filters; I've used them on most of my personal vehicles. Just curious.

Let's see...one of your builds and it's a C3 Corvette? You know I'll be watching. In your intro you mentioned having to deal with issues affecting the stance. Seems like one of your previous builds required some creative thinking to solve something similar, so I know you'll nail this. Will you be using Fireball Resin's BFG tires?
-
Dumb question: was the body also 3D-printed or resin? I like what you did with yours.

As always, reading the WIP section on Mark's builds yields a ton of info you might not know when viewing the finished model. Think what a massive improvement his decals were over the kit's, not to mention a couple other fixes and adaptations that resulted in a far more realistic appearance. Serious question, Mark: Do you wear/use any type of magnification (Optivisor etc) when building smaller scale kits?
-
We had one of those when I was a teen. Comfortable ride, and I still love that metallic goldish-yellow paint.

Give a talented builder a great kit and...
