  1. Here is the replacement for the Revell kit, the Hasegawa Type 1 kit.
  2. I watch a lot of car youtube so that gives a lot of inspiration. I also comb through Google images and Pinterest looking for unique vehicles to steal from. Sometimes the kernel of an idea comes from some odd combination of parts I want to use and I work out how they ended up together. Sometimes it's a factory phantom that could have been or should have been, I'm working on a Boss 429 Torino Talladega now.
  3. I agree about the Johan funny car kits. Another issue I've had with mine is the tires are getting weird and will need to be replaced. The kits are good, better than a lot of kits in that era, but will still need a bit of cleanup depending on which issue you get. One thing I like about the Mustang specifically is that it has a Ford engine. The prices on the funny cars is pretty good for a Buy It Now situation, you might find them cheaper but unless you're really wanting to get a deal I would pay those prices and not think twice about it.
  4. Certainly, as long as it's 1975 or older so you have a few options that are out now or have been pretty recently.
  5. I'm pretty sure this is the current packaging, I've had mine for a while.
  6. I do agree with Mike if it's in your budget. Getting it deep cleaned once may make it easier for you to keep up in the future. If you do want to tackle it on your own there are brushes and scrubbers with handles for reaching. We took and old style rag mop and trimmed the threads down to about a third of their original length to make it a little easier to use. If you have a lot of buildup you can cut it with dish washing liquid like Dawn and then go back with something made to clean tubs.
  7. First use bare metal foil on the back of the lights if they aren't going on a chrome bumper piece to give them some reflectivity, just stick the sticky side right to the back of the lens and trim around the edge. For the raised strips I would use a ball point silver pen. I use a Pentel metallic gel pen for really fine lines, the ink isn't as runny as chrome pens tend to be. It not completely chrome but shiny enough on such fine lines. I used the pen on the screen on the inboard headlights here.
  8. The decals are a bit of a let down. I was hoping for a full set of Z28 decals since they just made new artwork for them for the Revell snap kit a year or two ago.
  9. Once he does a run or two he will sell the files to Texas 3d or Iceman and they can run them as long they like.
  10. I'm in my 40s so I don't have any nostalgia attachment to older kits, I'm looking towards 3d printing to fill most of the voids in the model car market.
  11. I periodically search for the things I'm after. I want to actually build it so no need to pay complete collector price for it. I try to find partial kits since I'm probably going to replace the detail bits with more modern stuff. My dad's first car was a 68 LTD and to build it I need parts from the one issue only 68 Galaxie. Over the years I've accumulated enough parts for the build by buying partial kits and a damaged promo, along with a 65 Galaxie that will donte its chassis to the cause.
  12. The old Revell kit could be brought around but I would like to build more than one kit this year. I love participating in the Cannonball build but I try not to let it eat my whole year of build time. I had also intended this year to be a kit I already had but what's one more on the pile of shame?
  13. I'm beginning to remember why I didn't even start this last time. This thing is a PIECE! Look at those door gaps, only the best from old Revell. I've decided I'm done polishing feces so this thing is going to get turned into a rusted out shell for a trailer or something. I've made an executive decision and funds have been allocated, a new Hasegawa T1 is on the way. I'll post a new pic when it gets here.
  14. No problem. Yeah, the engine in the kit isn't great but is definitely a Cannonball style mod.
  15. What's old is new again I guess.
  16. If you're talking a out the 4 door Galaxie the kit has a Boss 429 engine in it. While incorrect for a stock version it would be a worthy swap to get the big Ford down the road. The 428 you have would be a potential period mod to an original small block car and keep it in the Ford family. I almost picked this kit for my build, it would make a good Cannonball car.
  17. GMC has been trying to get the rear steering thing going for a long time. My neighbor has an early 2000s pickup from the last time they tried it.
  18. It depends on the seller, I've gotten it both ways.
  19. You're going to have to hurry, you're almost out of year.
  20. Oh yeah, I play with a controller so any wheel is probably better. I've even played with a joystick. I mapped the throttle to the main trigger, the brakes to one of the buttons on top of the stick, the in cab look left and right control was the mini joystick on top of the stick, and I steered with the rudder control. It actually wasn't bad once I got used to it.
  21. Here's a pic that shows the difference in the wheelbase. It all seems to be in the front fenders for some reason. The Revell body is also wider at the rocker panels so the frame won't fit in the Johan body at all.
  22. I've run it on 8, 10, and 11.
  23. I had always thought there would be some invisible wall there or something but I had one pop up in a place that was going to detour me way out of the way so I tried to get by and realized you could
  24. I've looked at using the MPC kit to make a fast back out of the Revell kit but it would be a ton of work. The Revell kit is also a bit big, the MPC and Johan are exactly the same size but the Revell kit is a bit bigger somehow.
  25. I need a paint booth, I could get some much more done not having to want on good weather to paint.
