I treat them as MS kits, since those kits are meant to replicate 'actual' Gunpla builds. I picked up one of the Build Divers kits though, and it is a challenge to build it as a figure kit; I keep thinking of the filling I will need to do to make it look accurate. I agree with you on the selection at Wheels and Wings, but back in the day, Gundam builders were more likely to buy those kits at the stores in Markham, or at the small import hobby shop which used to be on Gerrard St. My LHS in Ottawa didn't start getting into Gundam until the market really started to heat up. At some point, I need to take some pictures and post them to this thread. I have a fair bit of construction done on the Fumina kit, but haven't worked on it recently.

The colour has been discontinued for a few years, so you will need to find a modeller who has a tin or two in their stash. The nice thing about Humbrol enamels is that they rarely dry out or go bad; I have a number of tins which are well over 50 years old, and they still work beautifully!

You may want to wait a bit before starting the build, David. AMT/Round 2 is supposed to be coming out with a model of the 1967 4 door impala from the TV show Supernatural, which would give you the running gear and roofline you will need for your Parisienne. If you belong to a local club, see if any fellow builders have a couple of tins of Humbrol #6 Yellow you could source. It is a nice pale yellow which I used to use to touch-up my wagon whenever I found a paint chip.

Hasegawa also has a really nice 1/24 scale MB.

I have been working on the Winning Fumina and the Hyper Gyanko figures, but there are a few others I will probably get sooner or later. The Bear'Guy kits are intriguing, and I'm tempted by that large scale Haro that my local shop keeps restocking. I was really impressed by the latest one I saw on my last trip to Wheels and Wings (the big Fumina figure, where you layer the parts in order to get an accurate skin tone representation), but I couldn't justify the buy-in at almost $100.

Vallejo Model Air vs Tamiya
64Comet404 replied to Erik's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the compliments Dave! I also agree with you about the Vallejo primer, but have found it needs a lot longer. I once tried to do some priming over a surface painted with masking fluid. When I went to remove the mask (5 days later), the primer stripped off in sheets. -
Vallejo Model Air vs Tamiya
64Comet404 replied to Erik's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I like using the Vallejo paints for airbrushing interiors and for detail painting, but for painting bodies or anything glossy, the Tamiya rattlecans are the way to go. You can also thin the regular Vallejo paints for airbrushing. Here are some pics of a model I built using Vallejo paints (Model Air red for the body and running gear, thinned Model Colors yellow for the wheels). -
I would go, but it is held on the same day as the big biannual IPMS contest in Ottawa.I wish Group 25 would go back to holding their show on a Sunday.

It happened during the middle of the show, when a vendor decided to put out some models that he didn’t have room for earlier. I happened to glance over, and saw the Maverick on top of some kit boxes. I went over and asked the price, and it was reasonable enough for me to hand over the cash without bargaining. As soon as I brought it back to my table, I had a number of guys who recognized it for what it is and where I had found it.

This one was such a find, I had to give it its own post! Definitely the right place at the right time!!! I don’t know if I will do anything with it yet, or pass it along to a friend for his Tom Daniel collection. I’m just happy to say I have actually owned one of these rare beasts.

I was at the AMRO contest today, and found some neat pieces for the collection. The Corvette and stock car are draw prizes, while the Charger and the Bug are donor kits (the bug is a complete glue bomb, but it has all the bits I need to finish mine). The MPC Monte and the trucks are good rebuilders, but there was one more model I bought, which will be posted later.

1/24 Revell 1986 Chevy Monte Carlo SS 2'n1
64Comet404 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The kit has been out for a few days at my LHS, haven't picked one up yet. I built one years ago, and it was a nice kit; wish I could have bought the 1:1 back in the day. -
The stock Cadillac engine would be a darker blue shade, but it could be any colour you want to complement the exterior. The block-connected oil filter was introduced for the 1956 model year. Hope this helps.

Grabbed this one at the local shop today. Pricey, but I was fortunate to have a discount coupon at hand, making the cost more bearable.

Pontiac Engine Turquoise Blue?
64Comet404 replied to crowe-t's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a Testor's enamel colour (square bottle) I have used for Pontiac engines. It is listed as Gloss Turquoise, number on the bottle is 107-RM11071_0711. -
Revell Land Rover Series 3 109 inch
64Comet404 replied to GeeBee's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
That would be a cool version to build. If memory serves, one of the drivers was Robert Bateman, before becoming famous as a noted wildlife artist. -
Picked up the Schwinn at the LHS, and bought these built-ups at tonight’s club meeting. The ‘cuda will be stripped, and rebuilt as a Super Stock, but the Eldo and Toronado are pretty clean builds, so I will leave them alone for now.

1967 - 69 Camaro Wire Wheel Covers?

The covers look very close to the ones I remember being in the AMT '66 442 convertible kit. -
Chassis swap questions for two different cars
64Comet404 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The '65 Galaxie chassis is a more accurate choice for the '66 Merc. The frame from the '60 Galaxie ('57 to '64) is a completely different configuration than the '65 and up Fords. -
I don't know if it's the same as on the video, but I have laid down Tamiya putty over seams, and then over-coated the putty with liquid cement to help the putty sink down into the seam. I haven't used this technique in a while, have switched over to using various grades of Mr. Surfacer instead.
