  1. I believe those are the Model Car Garage items. The tabs on the steering wheel should face towards the 'driver', so that the tabs on the photo etched spokes are hidden.
  2. I've owned a few cars which turned out to be sketchy in the end. My first daily driver was an '80 Malibu coupe (229/auto) that was the proverbial 'little old lady' car. My Dad picked it up for me in the fall of '87, but it needed a replacement for the rusted-out oil pan! Noticed a bit of rust on the quarters the following summer, and when I went to clean them up, discovered both quarters were full of Bondo. I got rid of it when the rear frame extensions rusted out and broke behind the rear axle. There have been other cars which have been sub-standard in one way or another (body or mechanical, but never both in the same car), but the worst one I have had was my 2014 Ford Focus. Well-equipped and sporty to drive, but it ate clutches constantly, blew the steering rack and rear shocks out in the first two years of ownership, and started to shed large chunks of paint from the quarters, doors, and hatch, before I traded it in November 2018. As a longtime Ford driver, I was very disappointed.
  3. Meanwhile, back at the ranch...? Looking forward to an accurately shaped, detailed E-Type Jag, was hoping Tamiya would get to it first. After looking at the wheels in their recent kits (separate wheel covers, please), I am wondering how they will mould the wire wheels. The T2 will be nice to have, and may get a camper, but nothing else interests me.
  4. I have kept most of my instruction sheets over the years, though I have pitched some which were glue-covered or otherwise unsalvageable. I also keep decal sheets and spare parts, though I draw the line at saving boxes (unless they're really old, whereupon I sell them at swap meets).
  5. MPC was the main player for accurate GM cars for 1968 (AMT released most of their GM kits for '68 as customs), and the Mopars have always been popular subjects. Then again, the AMT '68 Ford lineup also brings serious coin, so there must be something about that particular year for modellers.
  6. There are plenty of great suggestions posted here (I use the Tamiya Silver as barrier coat myself), but if you want to be certain that there won't be a colour shift, you may want to look into picking up a reissue of the GT500 that is not molded in yellow plastic. There have been a couple of reissues molded in white plastic, and the emblems on the kit are fine enough to warrant the fewest coats of paint/primer you can get away with using.
  7. I've clear coated over chrome using Tamiya clear spray, and I have yet to see any yellowing. I have seen yellowing with the older Testor's and Humbrol enamel clears, but the modern lacquers and acrylic clears are much more forgiving.
  8. The wheelbase scales out to about 1:21, but it won't be displayed with any other like-scale pieces. I have the Airtrax resin kit, but I would really like an injection moulded 105E Anglia for my collection.
  9. I will have to get a couple of sets for the build pile. I'm currently working on a Flareside, and would love to convert it to a Mercury.
  10. I usually don’t work with diecast pieces, but I couldn’t pass this one up. My mentor teacher, Keith, is a big Harry Potter fan, and does a number of learning tie-ins with the books. This year, he started a Harry Potter club for all students (I would like to think they needed a replacement for my model-building club, which ceased when I moved to another school, but I know that’s not the case), so when I saw this piece at the LHS, I couldn’t resist getting a Christmas present. The detail isn’t too bad, though the hood and trunk detail are minimal. I gave the grille and wheels a flat black enamel wash, and painted the window trim and badging with various metallics to finish it off, but that’s it, though I may hit Harry with a coat of flat clear to kill the shine. I’m certain Keith and the kids will like this in their collection.
  11. I bought the '57 Dodge Hardtop, '57 DeSoto, '57 Plymouth Hardtop and 4 door sedan kits, and a pile of wheels, tires, and other assorted bits. I should have bought a '67 Cougar when I had the chance, but hindsight is 20/20...
  12. I once managed to straighten a minor warp on an acetate promo by spraying the body with a lacquer colour coat. It was probably a once in a lifetime event, and will never work again, but it may be worth giving it a try.
  13. I found this in the original packaging today at the local Salvation Army store. It cost me about the same amount ($15) as a scrapper would pay for one today, but back in the day, the 1:1 version was the only official demo I ever had as a dealer employee. All it needs is a set of plates to complete the look.
  14. Picked mine up today at the LHS. It's nice to have Model Cars back, but the black background on the GSL pics is a bit too arty for my taste, IMO.
  15. Stopped by my local Ollie's today on the way home from Fulton. There were AMT 1955 and 2009/10 Corvettes, and some Lindberg police cars, but nothing that I had to pick up today. Hopefully next time...
  16. I'm planning to be there, hope to see some fellow modellers come out.
  17. According to my references, the aircraft you wish to build was one of the competitors at the 1976 Tactical Weapons Meet, held in Twenthe, Holland. The scheme is the standard green of the time (Canadian paint code 503-322-not easily translated into the common FS 595 paint codes) with the white tip tanks. If you can't source the Carmichael sheet, the Belcher Bits sheet will get you most of the way, though you would need to create the white/ red tip tanks and rudder on your own. I do have some clearer pics, so let me know if you need some scans sent your way.
  18. Leading Edge and Belcher Bits decals are definitely worthwhile products to use. I've never used Canuck Decals, so I can't comment on their qualities, good or bad.
  19. Bring all of them on, Revell. I can see plenty of potential rat rod noses in these pics!
  20. There used to be a really nice set from WaterMark Decals, but you may only find them on eBay now. The Fred Cady ones weren't bad, but they were the layer-as-you-go style of decals.
  21. A few years back at one of the Porsche shows (it may have been a Rennsport Reunion), they actually wrapped a number of Porsche Juniors in iconic racing livery, so you had the Pink Pig, the Hippie car, and a number of other schemes available. I had hoped that one of the decal manufacturers would make them available, but I haven't found them yet.
  22. We will be holding the Fifth Annual Ottawa Scale Auto Contest on Sunday, October 27, at a different location from previous years. The new location is: Holland Armoury (Gymnasium) 2100 Walkley Road, Ottawa, Ontario Time: 9:00-4:00 Theme:Summer of '69 This new venue is much larger than our previous venue, so no more having a contest and swap meet on two different floors! For more information, check our website at www.ottawascaleautocontest.com. Look forward to seeing some board members at the show.
