  1. Picked mine up today at the LHS. It's nice to have Model Cars back, but the black background on the GSL pics is a bit too arty for my taste, IMO.
  2. Stopped by my local Ollie's today on the way home from Fulton. There were AMT 1955 and 2009/10 Corvettes, and some Lindberg police cars, but nothing that I had to pick up today. Hopefully next time...
  3. I'm planning to be there, hope to see some fellow modellers come out.
  4. According to my references, the aircraft you wish to build was one of the competitors at the 1976 Tactical Weapons Meet, held in Twenthe, Holland. The scheme is the standard green of the time (Canadian paint code 503-322-not easily translated into the common FS 595 paint codes) with the white tip tanks. If you can't source the Carmichael sheet, the Belcher Bits sheet will get you most of the way, though you would need to create the white/ red tip tanks and rudder on your own. I do have some clearer pics, so let me know if you need some scans sent your way.
  5. Leading Edge and Belcher Bits decals are definitely worthwhile products to use. I've never used Canuck Decals, so I can't comment on their qualities, good or bad.
  6. Bring all of them on, Revell. I can see plenty of potential rat rod noses in these pics!
  7. There used to be a really nice set from WaterMark Decals, but you may only find them on eBay now. The Fred Cady ones weren't bad, but they were the layer-as-you-go style of decals.
  8. A few years back at one of the Porsche shows (it may have been a Rennsport Reunion), they actually wrapped a number of Porsche Juniors in iconic racing livery, so you had the Pink Pig, the Hippie car, and a number of other schemes available. I had hoped that one of the decal manufacturers would make them available, but I haven't found them yet.
  9. We will be holding the Fifth Annual Ottawa Scale Auto Contest on Sunday, October 27, at a different location from previous years. The new location is: Holland Armoury (Gymnasium) 2100 Walkley Road, Ottawa, Ontario Time: 9:00-4:00 Theme:Summer of '69 This new venue is much larger than our previous venue, so no more having a contest and swap meet on two different floors! For more information, check our website at www.ottawascaleautocontest.com. Look forward to seeing some board members at the show.
  10. Here are the under construction pics of the Fumina Gundam. The armour and weaponry still needs painting and assembly, so hopefully soon.
  11. I treat them as MS kits, since those kits are meant to replicate 'actual' Gunpla builds. I picked up one of the Build Divers kits though, and it is a challenge to build it as a figure kit; I keep thinking of the filling I will need to do to make it look accurate. I agree with you on the selection at Wheels and Wings, but back in the day, Gundam builders were more likely to buy those kits at the stores in Markham, or at the small import hobby shop which used to be on Gerrard St. My LHS in Ottawa didn't start getting into Gundam until the market really started to heat up. At some point, I need to take some pictures and post them to this thread. I have a fair bit of construction done on the Fumina kit, but haven't worked on it recently.
  12. The colour has been discontinued for a few years, so you will need to find a modeller who has a tin or two in their stash. The nice thing about Humbrol enamels is that they rarely dry out or go bad; I have a number of tins which are well over 50 years old, and they still work beautifully!
  13. You may want to wait a bit before starting the build, David. AMT/Round 2 is supposed to be coming out with a model of the 1967 4 door impala from the TV show Supernatural, which would give you the running gear and roofline you will need for your Parisienne. If you belong to a local club, see if any fellow builders have a couple of tins of Humbrol #6 Yellow you could source. It is a nice pale yellow which I used to use to touch-up my wagon whenever I found a paint chip.
  14. Hasegawa also has a really nice 1/24 scale MB.
  15. I have been working on the Winning Fumina and the Hyper Gyanko figures, but there are a few others I will probably get sooner or later. The Bear'Guy kits are intriguing, and I'm tempted by that large scale Haro that my local shop keeps restocking. I was really impressed by the latest one I saw on my last trip to Wheels and Wings (the big Fumina figure, where you layer the parts in order to get an accurate skin tone representation), but I couldn't justify the buy-in at almost $100.
  16. Thanks for the compliments Dave! I also agree with you about the Vallejo primer, but have found it needs a lot longer. I once tried to do some priming over a surface painted with masking fluid. When I went to remove the mask (5 days later), the primer stripped off in sheets.
  17. Looks pretty good, Adam. I have been working on a couple of the Break Fighters as a diversion from my other areas of interest, and they are some of the best mouldings available to model-builders.
  18. I like using the Vallejo paints for airbrushing interiors and for detail painting, but for painting bodies or anything glossy, the Tamiya rattlecans are the way to go. You can also thin the regular Vallejo paints for airbrushing. Here are some pics of a model I built using Vallejo paints (Model Air red for the body and running gear, thinned Model Colors yellow for the wheels).
  19. I would go, but it is held on the same day as the big biannual IPMS contest in Ottawa.I wish Group 25 would go back to holding their show on a Sunday.
  20. When did the practice of the yellow stripe/bumper come into use in NASCAR? I have some older cars I would like to model, but want the details to be accurate. TIA.
  21. It happened during the middle of the show, when a vendor decided to put out some models that he didn’t have room for earlier. I happened to glance over, and saw the Maverick on top of some kit boxes. I went over and asked the price, and it was reasonable enough for me to hand over the cash without bargaining. As soon as I brought it back to my table, I had a number of guys who recognized it for what it is and where I had found it.
  22. This one was such a find, I had to give it its own post! Definitely the right place at the right time!!! I don’t know if I will do anything with it yet, or pass it along to a friend for his Tom Daniel collection. I’m just happy to say I have actually owned one of these rare beasts.
  23. I was at the AMRO contest today, and found some neat pieces for the collection. The Corvette and stock car are draw prizes, while the Charger and the Bug are donor kits (the bug is a complete glue bomb, but it has all the bits I need to finish mine). The MPC Monte and the trucks are good rebuilders, but there was one more model I bought, which will be posted later.
