  1. That is why is used the word 'may', instead of 'will'. GM is GM, and they have tried their hardest to ignore that they are no longer the masters of the universe they were through the 1970s. Unfortunately, they did not learn humility when they needed to be bailed out by several governments. I don't know as much about FCA, but it's telling that most of the models tooled over the past 20 years were created back in the DaimlerChrysler days.
  2. We may start seeing more Corvettes from Asian companies now that the C8 is available in RHD. The Viper would be nice, but it may be too late now that it has been discontinued.
  3. I don't use Model Master, but I had the same problem when I tried to get a couple of cans of Tamiya flat black spray. Hopefully the distributors will be shipping product soon.
  4. The instructions show three different types of cement; regular, extra-thin, and ABS. The ABS cement is used for cementing the parts from trees A and B, not certain why Tamiya designed it this way (possible promo for Toyota?).
  5. It's a really well-engineered kit, the only real issue is that the model is constructed with a mix of ABS and styrene parts, so make sure you have some compatible cement in your stash (I use Plastruct Bondene, but there are plenty of choices out there). Enjoy the build!
  6. The Catalina’s are all from the same tooling, so it’s down to what you want to build. One version was produced as a custom, so don’t buy it if you want to build factory stock. The newer the issue, the more bonus features (such as pad-printed tires) you will get.
  7. In my opinion, rebuilders are there to be built. Sure, there is value to them, but not as much as a MIB kit. Additionally, if you sell it, the likely buyer will either rebuild it or give it a good cleaning for a shelf model, a la Snake. So build it as you like, and enjoy the reactions from the collectors as they see your build on the contest table.
  8. It was a good race, and different with the lack of fans. The operator of the Fox drone camera was having so much fun around the track, I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get a call from the FAA..??
  9. It’s one of the few that are still around in real life. DW parked it when he switched to Chevrolet in 1974, and he had it restored before he stopped driving. AFAIK, it’s still in his collection.
  10. The decal above the Coke bottle is for Bobby Allison’s race team and fabrication shop. Great looking Camaro, I believe it’s the same one Bobby used to set the track record with at Capital City Speedway (my local track, still there, but no longer in operation, unfortunately).
  11. Beautiful build, there’s a 1:1 in this colour combination in this area.
  12. NASCAR has gone away from having a single title sponsor, since it is getting harder to find that one corporation that will give over that much money for series entitlement. There are now a number of companies who support the series (listed in that big black panel on the ‘door’, and is now know as The Cup Series, instead of the Winston/Nextel/Sprint/Monster Energy that it’s had since 1972.
  13. It’s a Camaro, but I had to take a second look to see the model, looks like an RS. Agree on the stands. I wonder how long it will take for some caller on the SiriusXM NASCAR channel to claim “The stands are empty, NASCAR is doing a terrible job, blah, blah, blah...”
  14. No practice is the way to go, since it shows what the driver can do with a car that is not perfectly set up. The only thing multiple practices accomplish is to let a deep pockets team crew chief fine tune their car to beat the field (isn't that right, Chad...) ?
  15. The Canadian-made Pontiacs kept the flathead six through the '54 model year, then went to the Chevrolet engines for '55.
  16. I would love to get some of the Bandai kits back again, but there are certain ones that haven’t aged as well as others. I remember building the 1:16 ‘67 Mustang as a kid, and wanted to find another one. When I did pick up another copy, I was surprised to find it was not as nice as my memories led me to believe. I’ve seen other bigger Bandai’s that aren’t as nice, but for many of these cars, it’s the only game in town. Some of those 1:20 kits still hold their own against more modern kits for detail.
  17. Revell Germany reissued the Opel, along with a VW Beetle and a dune buggy, sometime in the last 3-4 years, so they aren’t too difficult to find.
  18. Over the past few years, I have been collecting some of the kits I remember building as a child. I think of them as Woolworth’s Builds, as this was the type of store where my mom would take me to shop, and hopefully buy me something. Many of my first builds came from the bargain end of stores like Woolworth’s, Zeller’s, K-Mart, Simpson’s-Sears, or Eaton’s (now disappeared from the retail landscape). Many of these pocket money kits died at my hand, so it is nice to be able to build them with my current skill level. This is a 1974 issue of Revell’s ‘56 Corvette, which was one of a series of 4 cars from the 1950’s (Corvette, ‘57 Chevy, Ford and T-bird). I used to be able to build one of these kits on the way home from the store! Tamiya TS-8 red and TS-7 racing white for the exterior, and Vallejo paints inside. I need to fix the Bare Metal work in some places, having discovered that foiling trim while wearing bifocals is a real PITA. It is what it is, and I am happy to have it done.
  19. This build could almost count as an Amnesty build, as its been under construction for so long. I bought this kit (the old Monogram 308 racer) from the sale table at a local hobby shop in 2007. The interior had been partially, and badly, assembled when I picked it up. I had begun painting and assembly back then, but ended up misplacing some pieces during a move. I found the missing parts recently, and have had the opportunity to finish this kit. Paint is Tamiya TS-56 orange, which is their version of McLaren orange, with a interior of AS-15 tan and black. The wheels, tires, and brakes are from a Rossi Ferrari 512TR, with the wheels and body trim in TS-40 metallic black. The side and back windows are tinted with Tamiya smoke. Apart from an Ontario license plate and a NNL East plate frame, there are no aftermarket pieces used on this build. Enjoy!
  20. Great looking build, owned a 1:1Thunderbird until the body started to get a bit ratty (the rear of the passenger side rocker panel was usually the first to go on both the Cougar and the 'Bird). Should pull these kits out and get back to work on them.
  21. Great photography, in both composition and lighting. I love the last picture; the forest where Saabs go to die (ignore the Austin A30 on top), but all of them are amazing.
  22. You may want to experiment with some different thinners. From your photo, it looks as if the Revell thinner is white spirit, which is good for cleaning brushes. I would suggest trying to thin the paint with lacquer thinner, and test it on some plastic.
  23. Called in to my LHS for a restock of supplies. Everything is curb side pickup, but at least I was able to get everything I need, plus a new airplane mag!
  24. I feel there is room in the marketplace for both the Revell and AMT kits. The Revell will be bought by people who want to make an accurate SS396, while the AMT can be used to make all those 'converted' SS cars, which helped to wipe out the '69 Malibu hardtop population ?
  25. I have all of the MPC classic kits already, but the box art and the motorcycle are definitely making me want to buy one!
