There's a Wayback Machine moment for you!!! I never had the coin to get that kit, but it was one that I remembered seeing and thinking "I'd like on of those!".

Ant Anstead - Master Mechanic
64Comet404 replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just watched a string of programs on YouTube. Since I get Wheeler Dealers on Discovery Velocity, there is a lag on how current our programs are, so it was really nice to see Ant's work on his own car. I did worry that the show wouldn't be as good when Edd left, but I have been happily surprised at the content. I have also enjoyed the two shows I have seen so far with Elvis as the mechanic. Mike does have his moments where he is in your face, but it is also nice to see a salesman who knows how to do repairs (I have managed salesmen who could barely remove and swap licence plates, so this is a big thing for me!). As a former salesman and manager, I really liked the recent video I found on the WD stream, with Mike discussing the shows, as well as the dealer situation during the pandemic. An interesting look at how dealerships are surviving during this crisis. -
Need Ideas for '57 Thunderbird Kustom
64Comet404 replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You may want to take a look at the original issue of the 1:25 AMT '57 T-Bird. Tons of custom parts, and there may be a treatment that appeals to you. -
I ordered it through Hobby Link Japan. I will probably build mine stock, but a friend of mine built the 1:32 version as a Zinger, and it looked really cool.

History of Revell's Dobbertin Pro/Street Chassis
64Comet404 replied to Fabrux's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I remember how exciting it was to get a modern Pro Street car when the J2000 hit the shelves back then. I have an original in the pile, so it won’t be as big of a glue bomb as my first! -
When I placed my order, the price was $43 CDN plus shipping, so it would probably be around $30 US.

T.V. car/truck goofs. Mistakes Ect....
64Comet404 replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There was once a British TV series from the ‘60s, where the script called for a Jaguar Mk.I sedan to drive off a cliff and burst into flames. The stunt was done using the Jag, but for the next several years, many shows used the same footage in order to get a return on investment. To paraphrase the author, if you saw a white a Jag with bad brakes, you knew how it would end... -

T.V. car/truck goofs. Mistakes Ect....
64Comet404 replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are a number of scenes in the old Hawaii 5-0 where McGarrett's '74 Grand Marquis will suddenly cut to footage of the "68 Park Lane and back again. -
Pirelli tyres needed
64Comet404 replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The XJ-S was reissued recently, so you may want to contact your local distributor and see if they can source a set for you. It may cost you some coin, but at least you'll know the tires are fresh. -
IIRC, the LHD dashboard was supposed to be part of the American SATCO issues, cast in resin. I never managed to find one of those kits, so I don’t know if they were ever included.

Great job on replicating the show. I remember seeing some stills from that first episode, and you can see a '49 Ford in the background!

Paint storage solution

I have one of those shelves for storing Vallejo bottles, highly recommended! -
The best '57 Nomad I have seen was a resin transkit from Scale Equipment Ltd., which uses the old tool AMT '57 Bel Air as a donor. I don't know if it is still available, though.

Old glue removal
64Comet404 replied to Paintandwrenches's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would first try soaking it in warm water. If it is stringy, there is a chance that it is some form of rubber cement. If that doesn't work, you can try using CA de-bonder to separate the joints (small quantities, though-it can mess up the plastic if not careful). -
The grille outside the headlights represents the cornering light option. Available on both SS and non-SS cars.

Decided to lay down some light coats on a dragster body this morning, so I taped the body halves to the stands and went outside. Just as I was laying down the colour on the bottom half of the body, the tape decided to let go! I managed to pick it up and spray the scrapes (hoping for some self-levelling), but I know I will be in for some sanding in a few days.

Great looking build, love how you have integrated the old and new together!

Taarna on her bird
64Comet404 replied to Nazz's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Great job on the figures. I like the fact that is shows Taarna as she is in the movie, and not the rouged-up version that you see on the movie poster. -
For a kit with so few parts, this has been taking a long, long time. The biggest challenge has been the paint, since the factory touch-up paint takes about three days to cure sufficiently to put it in the dehydrator, and a couple of days for the paint odour to fade. The upside is a finish that should withstand nearly anything I may do to it! Since I want the wagon to appear used, but not worn out, I applied some masking agent to the wood sections on the base. Once the paint finally dries, I will remove the mask and weather the exposed wood. We’ll see how that goes... If the paint takes at least five days to dry, hopefully I can be finished the build by the end of the month.
