  1. That looks more like your paint is cracking and/or crazing. What sort of paint are you using? Currently back to working on this kit, looking forward to seeing further progress.
  2. Like the subject matter, wish I had more room to add one to my BMW bike collection.
  3. I have seen them in stock at Hobby House and Hobby Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, as well as Dailey Hobbies in Whitby, Ontario. Sprays and acrylic bottles, no enamels as yet.
  4. The easiest solution for cleaning is to wash the promos in water with a bit of dish soap, and rinse afterwards. A soft toothbrush is good for removing some of the dirt However, the oxidized chrome is what it is. Some metallized surfaces do degrade over time. The die-casts are a different issue, since many of these were cast from an unstable alloy. They can be cleaned, but there's no certain method of fixing them without destroying their value.
  5. A nice set of deep chrome reverse rims on whitewalls would look good on it.
  6. That doesn't even count many '1:24' Monogram kits from the late 1970s and '80s, where the models scale out closer to 1:22/1:23. Let's face it, every manufacturer does some 'cheating' when designing their kits. Even Tamiya has admitted to playing with proportions to make them more pleasing to the designer's eye. As long as my 1:24 and 1:25 kits aren't too far out of proportion with each other, I am happy.
  7. Looks great! I looked at the original kit way back in the day, but could only afford the BlackFoot F150 (2 wheel drive only)..........................................
  8. The last race for this style of Monte Carlo was the first race of the 1981 season, at Riverside, California.
  9. The rally wheels in the '67 Impala SS427 kit are accurate for cars with disc brakes.
  10. It was reissued in the last 10-15 years. I had a couple of originals, so I sold my reissue.
  11. That is a model of the Pony II, which was the version sold in Canada in the mid-1980's. Most of the ones I remeber seeing were painted in earth tones, or the bright pastel colours that were popular on early '70s Datsun products.
  12. I just had word from my bookseller that they now have Drag Racing Models in stock, hope to have it soon.
  13. That looks identical to the Stellar my aunt used to own. Hers died within three years, and she moved on to driving Corollas after that. Recently, she bought a Kia Sportage, but will never get another car with a Hyundai badge (and, yes, she knows that Hyundai and Kia are the same company).
  14. I use Plastruct Bondene or Ambroid liquid cement, something which is hot enough to engage the memory of the plastic. Many modellers refer to it as 'ghosting', where emblems they have sanded off/removed return after applying a coat of lacquer.
  15. Unless you are super-detailing the chassis and showing them at Chevrolet-only shows, I wouldn't bother.
  16. There was a similar design from the USSR, but in real life. I think it was a Yakolev design, but it actually flew until the MiG-15 came into volume production.
  17. I would mask off the mouldings, sand, and then brush on some liquid cement. Once dry, sand again, and another coat of liquid cement. The liquid cement is used to try and remove the 'memory' of the texture, so it doesn't pop through again.
  18. Picked up a few pieces today at a club member's collection-thinning sale!
  19. Nice, makes a change from the flat black P-61's that you usually see.
  20. I have used PS-20 over Tamiya white primer, and is safe as long as you aren't laying on thick coats of paint. The more durable the primer, the better. Haven't had any issues while clearcoating with TS-13 clear.
  21. The matches are either TS-36 Florescent Red, or PS-20 Florescent Red. The TS spray is a bit glossier, but the PS spray has better coverage. Either one should be sprayed over white primer for best results.
  22. One change I can see right off the bat is the removal of the moulded-in battery. Definitely a worthwhile change!
  23. The #40 Pontiac shares its' chassis and running gear with the original Monogram '82 Buick Regal, and subsequent reissues as Monte Carlos, Pontiac Grand Prix, Olds 88s, and '88-up Buicks. These chassis are also the basis of the 1:24 kits that are manufactured by JR Salvino's (Pontiac 2+2, LeMans). They represent the running gear, though there are some details that are specific to the prototype (the 180 degree headers, for example).
  24. MRC Cragar wheel and tire set, should have come with either Mickey Thompson or Firestone (IIRC?) tires. There was also a set with Keystone wheels.
  25. That's the first time I have seen the Nomad Smash-up Derby car! It always seemed that the majority of the sets had the Bug and the pickup truck.
