VW Bus rail dragster. We have paint !
Lowlife ! ! replied to cobraman's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking forward to seeing this one come together ! If its any help to you, the picture you show (Mental Breakdown) was built and raced by Wayne Allman from Intergalactic custom shop here in the UK ! I believe its Hemi powered, a wild machine for sure ! ! -
Looks great Chris, looking forward to see our 64s come together ! I've seen the alclad parts you sprayed on your fantastic Army Vega build, so this should look way Kool all chromed out ! !

1971 Pinto Wagon Street Freak Showcar - Done!! 4-18
Lowlife ! ! replied to Impalow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I remember seeing one of your builds a few months back, I only checked the build out cos you have a super cool Impala as your avatar ! Must say your becoming one of my favourite builders on here Eric, loving all the 3D printing, cutters and vacuum forming, but you also build some Wild machinery !! Looking forward to more on this one.....- 172 replies

And where to start ? Well cut things up of course ! I removed the front fenders from the floor and then cut out all the lumps from the firewall. Quick template and spare plastic sheet and you have a smoothed firewall ! I then glued this in place and im currently blending it all in .... Might add a flip front soon ??

Thanks for the reply Luke, think i grab some wheels later, for the mean time heres mine !
-
Looks good Luke, any ideas on colour yet ?? Also can I ask about your wheels, are those scale 13" ? I know the ones in Revells lowrider kits are around 15" and a tad too big, just wondered how these compare ?? Also what's the backs like, do u fit them straight on or do you have to cut em down a bit to fit the rear axle width ? Its just I've never got around to buying any yet, I'd like to order maybe 4 or 5 sets to last me for a while ! ! Thanks mate, I've started my 64 have to get pics up soon....hope we get a few more people joining in too !

Great looking cars Steve, really like the Riviera that looks real !
-
I agree with Chris, that's no lowrider its a custom ! Saying that an early lowrider can have tru-spokes, even crager 5 spokes, and many bombs use original wheels and hub caps, or spinner hub caps ! Hydraulics are a main ingredient, not air bags ! And chrome, the more the merrier ! Personally I think small spoked wheels and thin walled tyres scream lowrider, so I think its fine to say this CBP should have these wheels only ! Just my opinion, I'm not arranging this but either way let's get building, and have some fun ! !

One of Lindbergs Better kits (Impala) foiled
Lowlife ! ! replied to JollySipper's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice start on this, should look great when complete ! If you want to start your show car lowrider have you seen the CBP Lowrider build off ?? Chrome also looks great, is that airbrushed ?? -
I'm definitely up for this, got a new 64 Impala kit ready I'm just looking to get some pegasus rims like the ones above. Get pics up as soon as I got my wheels sorted...
-
Thanks TJ, yes I spent two and a half years on this Monte ! All chrome is either various kit chrome pieces, alclad, chrome foil or the flat pieces are flat chrome cardboard ! The kit comes with the front suspension already shiny, the chassis was alclad with foil blended in.

Wow some amazing paint jobs......... its hit and miss for me painting, but this is still probably my best. Various layers of nail varnish which changes colour, and then clear with flake. No polishing just Tamiya clear to finish
-
Thanks guys ! Going slow at the moment but I'm blending in the arches. More filler and smoothing and it should end up in primer soon. All the panel lines, petrol cap, mirrors, rear lights etc are gone, front lights are going to be re shaped at more of an angle. Here's a pic how it looks at the moment !
-
Great job so far, lovin that black and well done with all that foiling !
-
Hoods coming along well, and that red has come out perfect ! I always thought these were nick-named Scoobies, after Scooby Doo ! ?
-
Been thinking of how to do the extended wheel covers, and ping pong balls were perfect !! Took several attempts and several different shapes before I got this..... Lots of smoothing out to do, I've already covered over the rear lights, and I'm redoing the front light shapes too. More soon........
-
Now this is not going to be a copy of that car, although it will feature several ideas, but also a few more from my warped imagination ! So first off I started smoothing the body, thinking of ideas...... Then I purchased some ping pong balls, and cut em all up !!
-
Don't know about you, but I was blown away with the Audi used in the film `I Robot` !! I'm quite into concept cars and fancied going a bit mad with one, so when this turned up at my LHS I grabbed it !

Got a bit stuck with this for a while. The standard VW kit has the windscreen attaching to the bonnet (hood?) so you get no cowl panel . On my bug I want a different dash and windscreen, and also there's no real firewall as such ! I tried all sorts of things until finally I came up with this. Still mocked up, the floor is shortened 350Z, and the dash is from a 1994 Firebird, and it just matches the bug windscreen ! Think I might now chop the screen, and add some small panels for a firewall, but its getting there slowly ! Bodyworks coming along, I like the rear lights smoothed etc.... Its one colour anyway so easier to see how the shapes coming along. More soon....
-
Thanks Mike ! And Tom glad your following this, let me know if you start your bug build eh ? Ken, glad you remembered it, I just got a bit burned out building , but I'm back on it now !! Always nice to hear from you Shaun, think the undersides done for now, I'm forever changing stuff on this as it is ! By the way, who's Carl ?? And cheers Lloyd, glad you like it so far !
-
One more, I added the prop shaft and plumbed the rear hydraulics ! Both doors have been cut open now, more bodywork still to do.....
-
And a quick shot of the rolling chassis. Engine is in, scratch radiator, new intake etc and it sits level ! Notice the little tyre removal to get it to sit low enough
-
As for the rear I tried something new. Its a scratch built swing arm system with hydraulics , it looks cool so its good enough for me ! Rear is a little higher, giving a tiny rake, With the engine mocked up I'm pleased how its coming along !
-
Thanks Dan ! Onto the suspension, as with a lot of my builds its all about the Look ! The front 350z fitted but had to have scratch built spindles to get it low enough. It was put together using a 1mm sheet underneath, so this is the height ! I had to scrap a little off the edge of the tyres but it fits now !

Returning to modeling with Model King 65 Mustang Modified
Lowlife ! ! replied to AZWildcatsFan's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Welcome back to the glue squad ! If its been awhile I'd keep it simple, finishing a kit is the best motivation for starting the next one !!
