What should be pulling this trailer?
Mackvision replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That R-Model was a great truck! I just never really got acclimated to pulling a dump trailer, was always afraid I was gonna roll it over!.............................................Mark -

My first 1:1 truck would be a pretty nice match! I am a little jaded, but i think EVERYTHING should be pulled by a Mack Truck!.................................Mark -

1969 Mack DM615TX steel nose
Mackvision replied to Arnd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Arnd, the standard engine for the DM 611 SX was Mack's own END-673E (inline six cylinder) standard transmission was Mack TRQ-7220 18 speed quadtriplex (two sticks) the spacing between the tires in the MPC kit represents Macks proprietary 65,000 pound axle configueration (very heavy duty) but the 34,000 pound Mack "Camelback" rears from the AMT kit were also available in the 1:1 truck................Hope this is some help to you! will surely follow this build,as a am a HUGE Mack truck fan/owner!..........................................Mark -
Sharp! I like that color and the way you did the interior,i have a couple of those kits on the "to do" list....................................Mark

Arnd, this truck is indeed a Mack DM-600 with the optional "severe service steel butterfly hood,BBC is the same as the fiberglass hood (like the MPC kit) optional engines were the Mack END-673,ENDT 673,Cummins NTC 290,Caterpillar 3176 and 3176-T,All Mack tranmissions were available in this chassis and most vendor transmissions Fuller,Eaton,Allison etc.,most popular being the Mack TR series- 5 speed and 6 speeds. Most common aplications of this chassis were dump trucks/snow plows, oil trucks, wreckers and tractors. Many of which are still in service to this day in New York City and surrounding areas. The DM's "big brother" DM-800 was more commonly seen in heavy duty and logging operations. Hope this is of some help, pleses feel free to contact me for anymore specific information concerning anything Mack, would be glad to help!.........................................Mark

Mackvision replied to Madd Trucker's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The wheels and tires in the AMT American LaFrance pumper and ladder chief are a pretty good match to update from an AC to an AK................................................Mark -
How this tow truck works?
Mackvision replied to angelo7's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This particular type of wrecker was commonly known as a Hines "Big Stick" or a Bakersfield Boom, the plate at the end of the winch cable is used to tow a truck backwards, but can be detached and re-rigged with a standard tow bar/angle iron for forward towing, which often requires dropping the towed trucks' driveshaft and often pulling the axles that come in contact with the road. Hope this is of some help.............................Mark -
Thanks guys,i was thinking the HO size, but for some reason I thought they would appear too small for a 1/24 or 1/25 scale vehicle.................................................Mark

List of big rig truck engines in kits
Mackvision replied to Bgrgbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not completely sure when "Old" Cat yellow disappeared, but my Dad had a 1:1 1972 White-Freightliner C.O.E with a 1693 Cat in it,and it was positively the older color,i still have some of the old aerosol touch-up paint that he used to keep the engine looking good.............................................Mark -
List of big rig truck engines in kits

Only exception I see to the color list is the 1693 and prior (older) Cat engines should be "Old" Caterpillar yellow?........................................Mark -
Question? Need to strip a cab :(
Mackvision replied to Cabover Kid's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good quality masking tape is also important to a multi color or stripe paintjob,i have always used Tamiya fine-line 6mm with really good results...................................Mark -
Doug, what scale size did you use? I have seen them in many different scales,i thought I might try them on the AMT White-Freightliner cab, that roof seam is near impossible to get right!.........................................Mark

Just wondered if anyone has tried/used the rivet decals from Micro-Mark? if so,what are your impressions? I am going to be building a trailer in the near future that's gonna need a TON of them! just curious to know how well they apply, and can they be painted over without the carrier film showing up?...........................................Mark
-
A little background, vintage logging trucks were equipped with water cooled brakes, hence the water tank behind the cab,the water could be applied as the driver saw fit, or as needed, overheated brakes were a common problem back in the day, water cooled brakes gave way to better airbrakes, bigger shoes, drums etc.............hope this helps........................Mark
