if one was planning to do a replica of the Popular Hot Rodding magazines project car. Project X 1957 Chevrolet What is the best kit to start with ? Mainly looking for a nice shelf piece not a full on dead nuts rivet counting replica

Friend of mine took one of these kits many years ago and pro streeted it. You should have seen the looks he got when he debuted it at a show. ( of course this was over 25 years ago ) But he still has it

Will we see a new '63 Plymouth?
gtx6970 replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Considerably less . unbuilt Johan 63 Plymouth kits are usually all over Ebay . Be patiant they can be had for the $40-$50 range if you look around .,,bought my last one a couple years ago . That was unbuilt in the box . But the box was stained and it ended at some weird time,,I hit it for $35 tops and went to bed,.. Woke up the next day and found I won the thing for under $30 But if someone wants to pay $100 for one, I have 2 or 3 I would cut loose of . And by all means avoid the original Promos . unless your a glutton for punishment The 63 Dodge kit on the other hand is a very different story value wise . Even the 62 Dodge and Plymoth kits are starting to get a little pricey I for one would love to see a new tool kit of pretty much anything 62 thru 65 Mopar kits -
I just finished one of these , but started it a few years ago. But I dont remember any fit issues getting the chassis or interior up in the body . definitly dont remember having to do anything special to the glass

gtx6970 replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
A decent builtup Bruce Larson car just sold on Ebay and I dont think it broke the $35 mark . They are not that hard to come up with ( just a little to new for my interests) There is an unbuilt kit on there now ,,,and so far its reasonable....so far -
1972 Dodge Charger?
gtx6970 replied to buildnething's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the hide away headlight stuff from the Dukes charger will work What you need to do,,,,, all depends on the actual car. There were different tail lights for different models in 72 , as well as different doors ,,all depending on how the car was equipped sidemarker changes will be the easy part. Interior may also be a problem , bench seat or buckets , and I think the seat pattern is different between 71 versus 72 -

Agreed, IMO, if theyre are go ing back date the tool. going to a 71-73 body would sell much better. And I would be all over a motion vega kit -
Anything Good at Harbor Freight?
gtx6970 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most of there air tools are cheap junk. and not worth the effort . Same goes for the spray guns . I bought one of there coil spring compressors and it broke on the 1st spring I used it on. I will use them for sand paper, gloves , hammers, shop towels, shop light bulbs . . Even the occasional socket if I only plan to use it once. There wrenches or screw drivers are so so if the fastener isnt rusted or super tight . But for the hobbiest 'most' of the tools will suffice I do have one of the roll around tool boxes were the top opens and a few drawers( the red one thats an open space on the bottom ) . I like it , seems sturdy enough for my semi professional shop use . I also have a set of the car skates and they work real good . I needed an air brush last year for a quick job on a 1/1 car project and it works pretty good. A friend of mine bought there jack stands,,when he got home. He fired up his welder and went over all the welded areas after looking them over.just for his own piece of mind otherwise they work good with no problems -
Mines isnt as tall, but been using the same thing for many many years. Simple, cheap and it allows me to spray the inside of the body where needed

I need to think outside the model box more often. This is a great idea

Was in my local hobby shop today for some paint supplies. And while i was there I just ' had ' to buy a kit. So I pulled the trigger on one of the new 1972 Hurst Olds convertible kit. I will NOT be building it as the Hurst Olds or a 442 . Just a plain old Cutlass convertible to replicate a friend of mines car .

AMBR Contenders Announced

I'd drive the snot out of the Packard. It has an early delahaye figoni look to it that I really , really like -
Last year for Blue line tire on a Mopar was 1966 , Actually ,,,I Think the blue stripes were only avail 1965 and 1966 model years( MAYBE avail on 1964 Barracudas ,,but I'm not familair with those) 1967 thru 1969 were a red line or white lines ,, in 1967 it was a 7.75 - 14 1968 + 1969 it was F70-14 or F70-15 depending on equipment ( there was a G70-15 Goodyear redline avail ,,,but on the A12 cars only ) then raised white letter become avail as an option in 1970 with the white walls as standard on most and I think anything prior to 65 ,,was a white stripe tire.

Fiat 806 Milano GP 1927. 1/12
gtx6970 replied to maysula's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
WOW My hats off to everyone who builds the larger scale kit. You guys make them look so real -
Well, after 2 or 3 years sitting on the bench or in a box. Its done , ( that's 3 in less than 2 weeks ,, which just might be a record for me ) This is one of the kits where the body and interior tins are all molded in a clear red plastic. . There's nothing on it but a coat of wax Built straight out of the box. I cant decide if I want to put the parachute on the back or not as I think i it muddles up the back of the car . Gonna have to think about it for a bit. Until then its in the case for another day Comments good or bad very welcome and much appreciated. thanks for looking.

Moebius 61 Ventura exhaust system locator holes
gtx6970 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
VERY Well said. I would much rather they just make a note on the instructions to drill the holes out IF NEEDED, as 90% of my builds will not have stock exhaust anyway
