1963 Nova Pro-Street FINISHED 5-8-15
gtx6970 replied to am73grand's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Oh I am going to follow this one. As I have thought about doing one myself . And I remember that car well. The underhood was just plain nuts,,,but oh so cool -
Looking fantastic so far. Love the color combo. And what's not to like about any 50s fin car. I know I have been on a buying binge lately to get all kinds of late 50s to early 60s fin cars.......but I actually prefer the convertibles if I can get them

Does 2015 mark the the end of the dark era?
gtx6970 replied to khier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think its a great time to be in the hobby. As far as dark times I dont know as I've never really looked at it that way. I like model cars,,,,If it interested me. I bought was what avail at the time and was happy about it . If it wasnt 100% correct , I didnt care and still don't. btw . As an example the rear tires in the Revell Thunderbolt kit are way to big for a true replica of the actual car. ,,,That sure didnt stop me from buying over a dozen of them ,,,,and I have 2 built and decals to do nearly a dozen more The 65 Plymouth and Comet,,2 cars that were never produced back in the day ,,both of which I want badly . I might even get a couple of the Pontiacs just for giggles . -
Exacly what I was thinking. Looks like every square inch of thebody is covered in decals. I like watching the Gymkana vides

Its my understanding the wheel Stockton produced ( Or was it Wheel Vintiques ? , ) Either way the wheel has been dis-continued and is no longer being produced . The new version was an all new tool for the centers and attached to an already avail wheel band . The new one used commonly avail acorn lugnuts as opposed to the oddball recall wheel only lugnuts of the originals. When avail they were first avail in 15x7 with a chome wheel ,, but after a while they came out with a 15x6 in a black wheel and Hoffmans Winners Circle produced the OE style trim ring ,,which is what the originals were . None are avail today . the 14" versions are like looking for hens teeth ,,which is small bolt pattern only btw

Yes. I foiled both the hood and trunk lettering. The nameplate on the forward edge of the ft fenders I left. They are gold and all I had was chrome BMF. Need to pick up some toothpicks so I can see if it worked. Ok, re-did some details on the dash . I want to add some beading wire to the door panels to replicate the chrome trim mldgs and flocking to the int floorboards . With it being a convertible the interior has to stand tall. But so far I REALLY like how its turning out . Comments good or bad welcome .

My local hobby shop told me the 65 Plymouth is supposedly in the pipeline to be released in march He also told me the Lawman 64 Dodge is due about the same time anyone able to confirm ,one way or the other ?
-
Got the seats taped up ( that wasnt fun at all ) Did the centers in white . Dash cluster bezel is highlighted in silver , I wanted to do it in BMF, but after 3 or 4 attempts to get it to lay down,, I gave up and dug out testors silver. Need to highlight the gauge faces . And do some flocking for carpet then the interior is done. .Unless I can come up with a better way to replicate the chrome trim on the door panels .The molded in lines were almost non existant . So I'm going to look in the beading isle at Micheals this week and see if I can get something small enough to look right Otherwise ,,,Next up. clear the body and start the BMF process

Got it taped up and airbrushed in the red , interior painted same color , Duplicolor flame red Boot is just a touch darker . Inserts of the seats will be white

Well, It may have survived 56 years with no paint on it. That came to an end over the weekend. Its now in black . Once dry I'll tape it back off and spray the red side coves. then clear coat. then set it aside for a while to really dry so I can start the task of the BMF work ( not looking forward to that ) Top boot is just one coat of Tamiya TS33 flat dark red. It flowed out pretty well and gives a pleated leather look to it

gtx6970 replied to om617's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If you dont find anything . ..let me know. I have 3 of the comets and none will be built replica stock. I will be cutting the hood out of all 3 ,,,,,at some point,,,just wasnt even thinking about doing it anytime soon . If you cant find one I might be convinced to go ahead and cut one out -
keeping suspension level
gtx6970 replied to 97Dustang's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Agreed. You would be suprised how may I've fixed just by spinning tires around. Especially using old tires from the stash. -
Does any know if these are avail in any kit,,,or reproduced in resin. I would like to have maybe 3 or 4 sets

Someone was / is making the hood scoops. I've seen them recently. Just cant remember who or where

Joe Dirt upgrades his Daytona
gtx6970 replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thats the rubber seal between the fender and the nose..only way to fix it is weld or lead it up. Even then chances of someone doing that to a real Hemi Dayyona is unlikely. These cars were already back on the uprise in values by the late 70s. . For the most part these cars became almost instant collectibles in no time. -

That T bird and maybe the Riv is pretty cool. the rest not so sure -
Great,,another KY builder isa good thing welcome aboard ,,hope you got a comfy chair to sit in.
-
Yes, the chassis leaves a little to be desired if your after a true replica ,,but it builds up nice and I think its flat hood or hemi scoop only ( Its been some time since I've looked at the kit though,,,, ) you can modify the Revell Dart chassis to fit with some work I have one in the works ,,,,but its been like this for nearly 10 years

What happened to these customs ???
gtx6970 replied to Eshaver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
cool subject. I'm not a show car builder type. But I do have a few of these kits on hand ,,, and do plan to replicate a few of these cars from back then someday . I've always liked the Starbird cars over just about anything Roth did . The sixtes was sure was wild time for the customizers . And it sure would be cool to know which ones survived,,and which ones didnt -
